Here are some ideas for those spending the long weekend in and around Adelaide.

IN THE CITY

Dirty Dancing comes to life on stage at the Festival Centre this weekend and until November 1Dirty Dancing

The classic story of Dirty Dancing will come to life on stage with music, romance and dance. It will feature all your favourite hits including Hungry Eyes, Do You Love Me? and The Time Of My Life. Circus Royale

Bring the family to Bonython Park for ringmaster Damian Syred’s Circus Royale. Guests will witness aerial acts, clowns, juggling, cows, camels, dancing horses, football-playing dogs and more. Port Rd, Adelaide, various times until October 18. Tickets from $15. Bookings essential.

 

The Spice of Life

Experience a variety of spice-themed activities that celebrate the culture of South-East Asia. There will also be cultural performances and demonstrations, hands-on activities, cooking demonstrations and food stalls. Migration Museum, 82 Kintore Ave, Adelaide, Sunday, 11am-4pm. Free. Details here

Festival Handbells in Concert

More than 100 ringers from Australia, New Zealand and Asia will take part in the 2015 Australasian Handbell Festival. The event will include workshops, mass ringing rehearsals and networking. It presents a rare opportunity to see so many ringers performing together. Pulteney Grammar School, Wyatt Hall, 190 South Tce, Adelaide, Sunday, from 2pm. Cost: $10.

With an American Accent

Grammy Award- winning American pipe organist Jonathan Dimmock performs music by Copland, Phillips, Mendelssohn and Locklair in this — his only Adelaide concert on his Australian tour. Indofest

The eighth annual Indofest will feature food stalls, cooking demonstrations, activities, performances and a live band. Using indoor and outdoor spaces of the Migration Museum, SA Museum, Art Gallery of SA and State Library, this Indonesian cultural and culinary event will teach you about the South-East Asian nation and its people. Various locations along North Tce, Monday, 11am-7pm. Free. Suitable for all ages. Details here

West End Slowdown

Bring the family out for a fun Crows V Port charity match run by the Little Heroes Foundation. Players will include Tony Modra, Tyson Edwards, Mark Bickley and Ben Rutten for the Crows, and Matthew Primus, Josh Carr, Brendon Lade, Peter Burgoyne and Dominic Cassisi for Port. They will be joined by several sporting personalities and celebrities. Kids can take part in a special “kick n catch” event on the oval at half time. Adelaide Oval, Monday, gates open 11am, game starts 1.40pm. Cost: adults $10, concession $5 under fives free.Details here

Singer guitarist Christian Andrew gets ready for the Semaphore Music Festival2015 Semaphore music festival

Bring the family down to the Semaphore foreshore for a chilled out long weekend of sun, sea air, food and live music. Now in its 11th year, the Semaphore Music Festival will feature more than 50 SA and interstate music acts spanning genres from folk to acoustic, indie-rock and rockabilly. Hear from The Baker Suite, Kaurna Cronin, The Satellites, The Yearlings and much more. Don’t forget to bring your dancing shoes. Tonight (Friday) from 7pm, Saturday and Sunday from noon and Monday from noon (with a record fair from 10am). Clarenece Park Environmental Market

Come to the Clarence Park Community Centre for a market dedicated to helping people step away from consumerism. Expect home grown and made produce, second hand goods and clothes, a food co-op and trading stall plus a talk on green cleaning at 11.30am 74 East Ave, Black Forest, Saturday, 10.30am to 12.30pm. StreetGeek X

If you love gaming this a chance to pit your skills against about 250 people and potentially win prizes. The Local Area Network (LAN) party is being organised by StreetGeek and Unley Council and will run non-stop from 10am Saturday to 8pm Sunday. Bring the family to Waterworld in Ridgehaven for waterslide and splash pool funWaterworld

Make the most of this weekend’s warm weather — dust off your swimmers and goggles and head to the Waterworld Aquatic Centre, which has reopened for the 2015/16 season. Big kids can enjoy waterslides while little ones will love the toddler splash area. There are also lap and recreational swimming areas, a cafe and barbecues.
