coolerking replied to ozzieclare2be's topic in Recreation & Socialising
Hi Clare, we moved to Adl on Wed and maybe able to meet up as we are staying in Woodcroft for the mo. I think Christies is near us so that maybe a possibility, just need to check as we are busy trying to do things. We have four kids u'10 as long as 'fun n play' is not a euphemism:biglaugh: I'll get back to you, Cooler -

Difference between North, South and East Adelaide
coolerking replied to a topic in Visa's and Migration
Hi massive, we are considering Gawler as we have only heard good things about it but just a bit concerned that there may be little in the way of beaches to the East. I have always been a beach lover as I spent my childhood on them in HK. I've been informally offered work which would probably straight away and with four hungry young'uns, thats a positive:) Cooler -
Don't think that you can watch MOTD after it has been aired because of broadcast rights. Shame but the BBC have a new Football League Show which I think can be played on iplayer later. Cooler

We're still in Stockport awaiting our visa. We were expecting it ages ago but they seem to slow right down but are showing signs of movement now - CSL apps. We moved out of our house 5 weeks ago and have had time with MIL (twice: 8 in total in a two bed house), NI visiting rels and onto our second set of friends now. Can't believe how kind some people are (or slightly mad) as we have four kids with two at three and 16mths. Left my job a few weeks ago so we want to go to Adelaide now! For the Bury folk, we visited a friend in Holkenbrook? What awful weather in the NW at the moment. Cooler

Hi, think they can leave it for a very long time but someone may have a definite answer. Is there absolutely no chance of resolving outside of court. We were all prepared to go to court but OH's ex signed a stat dec for consent to leave UK to live in Australia. From our research, as long as you are well prepared, they nearly always side with the party moving assuming the kids are usually residing with those parents. Obviuosly, not all people will always be happy but the costs involved are better suited to travel cost for contact. Bear in mind a court agreement from the ex's point of view is usually meaningless as it cannot be enforced - unless there is some provsion for monies to placed in trust. Mirror agreements to be avoided but that's really the only way the remaing parent can have any legal rights - RFJ means exactly that. Good luck, Cooler

From reading on the internet, the best get mentioned only in a positive manner. We are using Ian Harrop but would certainly have used Tony. The best ones are totally professional and offer and off an excellent service. We're in Woodley! Cooler

Hi, do schools start earlier in Adelaide? A friend teaches in a High School in Brisbane and I know he starts early. Answers for both Primary and Secondary would be helpful. Many thanks, Cooler

Hi, still in the UK but a few question for the fishing fraternity. I used to do a bit of course fishing but fancy doing some sea fishing but essentially, I want to eat my catch. So, the question is where is that a viable option, I probably will not have a boat for a few years. I am prepared to put time into learning techniques and rigs etc and would like to take my elder boys along as well. Any advice would be great. Cooler

Will they be playing there next year as well? If so, we'll be there:) Cooler

Yes, hello to you. Have you been digitised into this virtual world? Cooler

It doesn't bother me about leaving friends and family behind as I just accept it and I have thought about moving many times in the past. We both travelled a bit as kids and lived abroad so I think that helps - MIL is going to come over for at least three month a year so that's good. I think it's different for everyone, I will miss some things but not a great deal and I am looking forward to the things we can do in Australia. We're quite active so we'll be looking for sports clubs etc for the kids and we play golf and like swimming. Ideally, we'll eventually leave near a beach as I like the view and fancy a walk every morning. But obviously, I know that it'll take us (the adults) a couple of years to get settled. I do not intend to come back to the UK as I think we'll be too busy leading our lives in Aus and have many plans for holidays in the southern hemisphere - fiji, New Zealand and also the Solomon Islands as we have contacts there:D Thanks, Cooler

Thanks, Stalyvegas as it now known. Cooler

Can I just ask how it was revoked? I believed it was not impossible to revoke them but could be awkward as say in this case, you may have spent a lot of money on the emmigration process which your ex may have had to pay compensation and court costs. Cooler

Outside Stockport in Woodley near Marple. Where abouts are you located now? Cooler

What's it like there, I have looked on google earth and it looks ok. I play (very badly) OH plays every week and looks good in her gear... We'd like to join somewhere when we get settled, cheap and cheerful suits us especially if there is good provision for the youngsters. Is there and expats meet at all through here? I'd be keen, any excuse to play is fine by me. Cooler

Whoops, forgot to say that we're on a 176 (family) on the CSL, lodged 6th March meds 9th April - I'm on a diet:shocked: Cooler

Thanks all, a lovely welcome and no teeth showing:o Our elder two cannot wait, they would go tomorrow. We had next door neighbours who came for two years whilst one did a Masters and they had kids just a little older so that seemed to help. Little lad talks about hangaroos and spiders a lot so I guess we must have Aus as our number one topic of conversation. MIL's cousin lives in Adelaide so it seems we have family there already which will be nice. She has given us some advice over SKYPE about the climate and renting etc. Once again, thank you for a warm welcome, Cooler and family

Just joined:jiggy: Just thought I'd say hello, "hello". OH and I have 4 children u'9 and hope to be in Adelaide within the year, one or two things permitting. I am a secondary teacher and the visa went in about a month ago and as it's on the CSL, well we hope that it is processed quickly. House not sold but we have decided to book meds (9th April) and push on. I am a typical male maths teacher, think I'm funny, but clearly not! I am hoping to eventually find to find work in an impressive school - where the children are pushed but also encouraged to develop into kind responsible adults. I currently work (11 years) in an inner city school that gets fantastic results and has a very wide inclusive intake. We have three boys nearly 9, 7 and 3. We also have our last child, a girl, 1 on the day of the meds! Hope this is a friendly forum as I am not one for arguments. We've never been to Australia but OH spent time travelling as father was in the army and I had my early years (1 to 8) in Honk Kong. Adelaide sounds right for us in many ways, not least because, so I have read many cafes - are the cakes any good? Regards, Cooler
