  4. Hi all, thanks for the feed back, after living here for a couple of years we have had the feel of the city life, now ready to explore the outside. mount Barker is a possibility for us as it is yet only 30 minutes to comute to the city...and 35 to Glenelg Beach...Good to hear possitive feedback, as speaking to those in the city there isn't much of a possitive comment. tracey
  5. Hey everyone just a quick question for people living up in Mount Barker.. What is it really like up there eg schools, amenities etc? We have 3 children 17, 12 and 9 and we have been looking at property up in Mount Barker because the city is just too expensive for us and you seem to get more for your buck up there. Thanks Tracey

  16. Yeah australia and adelaide is a nice place but the one thing is that there does'nt seem to b a lot of work around and its more of who u know rather than what u know if u know what i mean lol.... but in general yeah we do like it but i think a bit of home sickness is creeping in with my husband and eldest boy....not with me i really like it but its all down to work at the moment... also u will have to remember that is not cheap over here anymore compared to 5-10 yrs ago as i keep getting reminded of... but dont let me put u off!! i wont be moving lol... if u can go for the state sponsor those visa's dont seem to take to long to go through if your trades are still on the list... if u need anymore info drop us a line.. cheers tracey
  17. maintenance fitters (mechcanical trade assistant) thats what he used to do in uk.. cheers tracey
  18. Hi all, Does anyone know where any mechcaincal trade assistant jobs avalible anywhere? my hubby is looking for work and he has done this kind of work back in the uk before we left in september. if anyone knows of anywhere pleaase drop me a pm please... many thanks all tracey..
  19. Hi Tina, we as a family moved over here in september. I used to teach hairdressing back in the uk so i knew i had to go back into the salon (shop floor) when we arrived and since then i have struggled to get work. the problems i seem to find is that they dont seem to accept uk quals, u have to get them rpl (as the call it over here) to australian quals from the tafe (college) at more expense.. I have just done my rpl for level 3 at a cost of $500 and if i want to go back into teaching i need to rpl the rest of my quals at a cost of $500 a pop...... but work is not easy to come by... dont let me put u off in coming over this is just my personal opinion but i have struggled like i said.. I have finally found employment but its in a salon but not what i came out here to do so i will just keep trying to get to where i want to be again.. its like starting on the bottom of the ladder again.. as for sponsorship i would find it highly unlikly u would find a hair salon to sponsor (as they need to prove to the state government that they cannot fill that postion within SA) and if u r lucky enough to find 1 i think u will have to stay with them for 2 yrs whether u like it or not... best trying to get a state sponsor but has hairdressing come off the list in SA? anyway good luck.. tracey

    New to Adelaide

Hi vicky we are from grimsby so not to far away from goole.... if u want to catch up for a chat just pm me... we live in magill in the eastern part of the city.. i know woodcroft is a bit of a distance but we could catch up somewhere if u wanted to.. i have 3 children robson 16, harriet 12, and joshua 8.. we have been here in adelaide since september 2011.. so still kinda settling in.. anyway pm me if u wanna catch up.. cheers tracey
  21. hi we moved over here in september 2011 and moved to the magill which is the next suburb down from rostrevor... as someone has already said the eastern side seems to be full of italians and greeks... but all in all its a nice part of the city but real estate prices and be expensive all over the eastern suburbs side.. our children got to both Magill primary, Norwood Morialta high and cannot fault them to be fair.. if you need anymore info drop us a line will only be to happy to help and maybe have a few more poms in the eastern side... good luck with the move... tracey..
  22. Hi we have been here for about 6 months now and have settled in the eastern area of the city in magill... i must say i cannot fault the area or the burbs around it.... kids settled in schools and city only about 20 mins in car... as for bad areas i have only really heard of the northern burbs are not the best but not lived up there or been around there much so cannot really coment.... It all depends on how far u are willing to travel for work.. wife works in the city so takes her about 25-30 mins on bus or 10-15 mins in car and i work out towards edwardstown so it takes me 25 mins in car... Also as we have found out its not as cheap as the place used to be so dont come over here expecting to live a life of luxury on your savings as they dont last long plus their is a licence for everything out here... eg having to pay for driving licence every 2/5 years just cost me and the wife $400 for 5 yrs but these are going up end of this year... food is also expensive but u do get used to the prices once you are earning the aussie dollar.... its just a shame tesco are not over here as that would kick wollies and coles a good kick up the arse... anyway other than that its nice and friendly but i guess it depends on which area you decide to live in...
  23. Hi zoe, we as a family of 5 are from Grimsby and we leave for our new life in Adelaide at the end of august....cannot wait till it comes. We used a company called visa bureau. They are very good and helpful and not had a problem with them at all and kept us informed in all the changes which happened while we was going through the application. I would suggest phone up any immigration company and talk to them and they will help you on your way.. all the best tracey
