  1. Hi We booked 3 weeks with HomesDownUnder. We got our long term rent sorted in two weeks, but it was a further 2 weeks before we got into our rental. Also we had the time during those weeks to drive the miles. We are now in Strathalbyn and very happy so far. IrishStew

We are from Magherafelt, and so far so good, we have been far to busy to be home sick. Our container goods finally arrive with us tomorrow, so that's going to be all fun. AQUIS have quarantined all our Christmas Decorations in spite of us removing all wood, cones etc. I presume its in case it was in contact with a natural tree. Thanks to all for the best wishes IrishStew

What year 2012 was!To all you guys - have a great year. · Got the Visa · Told the parents · Sold the house · Left our Jobs · Moved around the world. · Got a nice rental · Enrolled Kids at School Now we are here in SA 6 weeks. Still needs jobs, but the better half has all the teacher reg thing done – very tedious. We have a 12month lease on a house in Strathalbyn. Strath is lovely. We are not city people so it suits us fine as we have 3.5acres. Come Autumn our boy wants to get a few sheep!!!! In the mean time he has four chooks to look after (hens). We have had a great intro to Oz through various Church connections , met so many Aussies who are so very kind. We had a two week break in Queensland before coming here, not one nights accommodation did we pay for, either we were put up by someone from the church or our accommodation bill paid for, and taken out and right royally entertained, absolutely brill. One guy we met from Northern Ireland said “every things the same, but different”!!! Actually that about sums it up. What have we learned? Homesdownunder via Tamara was a great rental for the first few weeks, her knowledge helped so much – thanks. You can never bring enough powerboards from the UK. Port Noarlunga is lovely. Watch out for pedestrians when the lights turn green (absolutely mad). It’s never what you imagined. Home is not so far away with skype etc. The sky is actually Blue (coming from NI I thought it was grey). Getting Setup takes more time than you think. The essentials are expensive, but the rest is fine. Broadband is expensive. Le Cornu furniture is not bad (ask for Marc), Haggle Furniture is good value if you haggle (ask for Adrain – Port Road) Dont use the Irish word craic (meaning fun, news, chat) they will all think your are on drugs. The Aussies love a good bit of banter especially at someone else expense. Especially POMS! So far we are all doing well, although kids could really do with being back in the routine of school. We LOVE Oz and hopefully all work great in the end. The better halfs sister arrives tomorrow for 10 days so that will be fun. IrishStew

  7. Yip time is flying. We are doing Melbourne and Brisbane first. We are from Mid Ulster, are you here there or where and were you where here or there!!!!! IrishSTew
  8. One week to go. :jiggy:Fly on the 1st Nov , wee holiday and then Adelaide here we come. What have we forgotten ??? The missus is really panicking as we have had no time to think - so busy. What are the things you forgot? Lets see who wins the prize - I want to say at least we are not as bad as..... NEWS FLASH : There will be an earthquake on the 19th (when we arrive I am going to jump up and down with excitement - all 20st of me). IrishStew
  9. They probably were just kickers who wanted to pretend that they wanted something bigger. You do get them! I look forward to reading your publications, comedy or tearjerker?? IrishStew
  10. Frustrating, but dont panic even if you sold in Jan you could still make March. Just make sure that you have already begun the declutter. Heres hoping more come soon. IishStew
  11. Congratulations its a great feeling. irishStew:biggrin:
  12. We went with NAB, so far all set up very easy, internet banking and apps all looking good. No charges when using moneycorp. Collecting our cards in Brisbane before going on to Adelaide. NAB customers can also use rediATM without any charges. IrishStew
  13. NO NO NO, don't get down, I cannot count the number of times I thought - it will not happen - and now it is. Todays news is that house prices are rising again - a good sign. All you need is ONE buyer, not twenty viewers, just one buyer. Take a deep breath, and relax. Remember - its not over, until its over. I know of a friend who sold on the very last day they thought it possible. Keep that smiley face on it saves the cost of a face lift! IrishStew
  14. I couldn't agree more, the right person right place right time. We were very fortunate that our buyers fell in love with it as soon as they saw it. Make sure you hide as much clutter as possible and push seats well back etc to make the space look big, but at the same time make it look like a home rather than a house. All the best to all. We are renting now in a old very cold house. Three weeks to go!!!!! IrishStew
  15. Hi Folks, I am trying to find a serviced or virtual office address near Flinders Uni. I have tried googling, binging, and yellowpaging, loads in CBD, but nothing near the uni - any ideas please? Thanks IrishStew
