  1. Nope you were right, colour scans of original documents are all they need. Now stop stressing! You're getting as bad as I was
  2. http://www.immi.gov.au/living-in-australia/settle-in-australia/to-do-first/ This link should help you out!! Best of luck Sinead
  3. Hi we got asked for form 80 with the request for meds and pcc so I think you won't be asked for it at all. When I would get worried about things not progressing I would email the CO just saying : here is what we've uploaded, do you need anything else? If nothing else it made me feel like I was doing something! And he always either replied or updated the checklist. It's such a stressful time, checking the status page all the time and worrying you've missed something but don't worry, it does come to an end! We fly out August, now we are in a different kind of stress!! It'll all be worth it though. Best of luck!!
  4. It doesn't sound like you've stuffed it up, as far as I remember, we only needed the TRN. We also did it online. A couple of days after we requested the form 1100 we got an email from SA saying they had passed the info onto DIAC. I was so afraid of messing things up at that stage that I scanned that email and attached it to the application!! waaaay overboard Best of luck with it, nearly there!!!

    Guilt

Hi Paula, you've hit the nail on the head there! That's so so true! Okay teeth gritted so for the next few weeks....

    Guilt

Thanks for this thread thewhitehouse, we are flying out in August with our two boys, and my Mum and Dad have taken it very badly. Not only are they heartbroken but they think we are doing the wrong thing. My husband's parents are devastated but support us all the way. In a way the difference in support makes it even harder, as I keep thinking, why can't my parents just support our decision? My parents visited yesterday and they didn't mention anything about Adelaide or the move the whole time. It's like they've decided it will go away if they don't think about it. They know we have booked the flights but haven't asked the date. My Mum basically told me this was all a pipe dream, this is without knowing a single thing about where we are going or the preparations we have made, or even how hard we are finding life here right now - it's my own fault I guess as I try not to worry them so I always give them a rosy picture. Can anyone give me advice on how to deal with this? We have 17 weeks left here and I want to be able to enjoy time with our extended family and get everything organised and look forward to the move, without this hanging unresolved over me. At the moment I just keep thinking about it and it's driving me crazy!

    Just getting started.

Just take it one step at a time and it's not so huge Remember to celebrate all the milestones you achieve along the way, as it's a stressful task and you need to congratulate yourself once in a while!! And remember why you set out on the journey in the first place!! Best of luck with it Sinead
  8. Hi Clare, Thank you so much for posting this. We booked our flights today, and so many things went wrong with the whole process we ended up completely stressed and not at all excited like we thought we'd be!! But after reading your post I am getting so excited and now can't wait! We fly out in August with two kids so it was brilliant to read about all the things for them to do - also great advice about what to buy before flying, thanks. Hopefully we'll love it just as much as you!!! Sinead
  9. Hi Helen, Thanks for the advice, it was very useful! My husband works as a Software Tester. From what you've said about your OH's experience he's going to look at contracting at first. We have decided to move in August, to give him more time to find work, plus winter in Adelaide is prob comparable to an Irish summer! He will def take your advice and try to set up meetings before we arrive. Thanks again! Sinead
  10. Hi Stevo, Good point - as long as we get a place with air con so! Wow you must have had some shock getting off the plane! I just have a vision of us in the first week with two sunburnt kids and both of us sweltering in the heat trying to find our way around to register with tax, centrelink, medicare etc and getting heatstroke!!! Maybe I'm just being over-anxious?! Thanks for reminding me about air con Sinead
  11. Hi bidsandrew! Thanks for your advice - glad to see that you love it even though it has obviously been a worrying time for you both. You make a very good point about being happy to use your savings to live on - we'd like to be able to hang onto our savings to buy a house at some stage in the future so that one's worth thinking about - we'll have to decide where our priorities lie!!! I think we'll have to consider moving out before well before November if we want to avoid the holiday slow down. Still very excited about it all though!!!! We've been talking about this for 7 years so it's about time we did it!!! Best of luck to your husband in his new job! Thanks again Sinead
  12. Hi Celticboy39, Thanks for your advice! It's good to see what costs there are so we can be prepared. We'll have to stock up on Penney's clothes for the little ones before we head off!! Things are quite hard here right now and not showing any signs of improving so I don't think we have anything to lose by heading to Adelaide. Thanks for the tip about recruitment being quite slow, we'll have to factor that one in. Cheers, Sinead
  13. Hi LC, Thanks for your advice! A very good point about Christmas - maybe for the benefit of our parents it's be nice for them to have the kids for a "last Christmas". Worth thinking about.. We were thinking that if we come in November I would have a chance of picking up some holiday work in hotels there - that was my career til I became a "homemaker" three years ago! Though not having previous Australian experience might work against that. The one thing we are really worried about is not being able to get work for months and using up all our savings. (like everyone else I guess!!) That'd be okay if it was just the two of us, but with the two little ones it is a scarey prospect. Anyway you've given me lots to consider, always good to hear a different point of view! Thanks again Sinead
  14. Thanks Karen. I think you may be looking at the wrong web page - try this one http://www.physiocouncil.com.au/assessment/assessment-for-skilled-migration It seems to just involve submitting your docs. I think the other assessment is for when you get there to register! Best of luck with it!!! Sinead
  15. Hi Karen while I don't know about the exact requirements for skills assessments for physios, we have just come through the visa application process (visa got granted this morning!) and I remember all too well how overwhelming the whole thing is at the start so I'll do my best to help you out! (Bear in mind that the skilled migrant application system changes in July, so it's only worthwhile starting the 176 process now if you're fairly confident of getting the whole thing in by July.) I'll go from the start as I don't know how much you know. This link is the ASRI info on physiotherapists from DIAC - def worth reading if you haven't seen it already. http://www.immi.gov.au/asri/occupations/p/physiotherapist.htm It says that you need to get assessed by the Australian Physiotherapy Council. http://www.physiocouncil.com.au/assessment/assessment-for-skilled-migration As far as I can see, you choose from one of two assessment options based on whether you need the points or not. If I were you, I'd have a look at the two forms, decide which one you need, and then get together all your qualification transcripts and work references. Hopefully this will be of some help to you - if you know all this already, sorry!!! Cheers, Sinead
  16. Thanks for the advice heatherb! I guess if we're prepared for the sun we'll be fine. Good point about the breathing space... might be nice to get into things slowly! If all else was equal we'd fly out next week! But we want to save as much as we can before heading over as we don't know how long it'll be before either of us gets work. At least the stressy visa-getting part is over Best of luck with your move!! getting close now! Sinead
  17. Hi Heather, Nope, we are very lucky to be renting! One month's notice is all we need and we're good to go!
  18. Hi there! We just got our 176 visa grant this morning so I am thrilled and nervous in equal measure!! (ah no, more thrilled than nervous really!!!!!) Now we are trying to decide when to make the move. We must validate before 22 Feb 2013. We have a 6month old and a three year old. Ideally I'd like the baby to have all his immunisations before moving, that will be end of October 2012. I have read on here that everything slows down in the run up to Christmas. Does this mean that if we move in November my hubby (works in IT) won't have a chance of getting a job til January? I'm worried about leaving the move til January as we'd be going from Irish winter to Adelaide summer - quite a shock for the two little ones (and us!!). Would really appreciate your advice and opinions. I know we have little to worry about if this is the extent of it right now, but we need a deadline to focus on now!!! Thanks in advance!! Sinead
  19. Glad you're finally relaxing and enjoying yourselves!!! After all the stress of the last few months you deserve it!! I'm very very jealous.
  20. Hi Anna, We lodged our 176 on Feb 4th and got the first email from our CO yesterday. As IrishStew said, COs are allocated in 4 weeks. Ours asked for meds, PCC and form 80 for both of us Lots of work in the form 80! If you haven't filled yours out yet I'd recommend spending the time between now and when you get your CO filling out the one on http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/80.pdf It's slightly different to the one they ask you to fill but at least you get a head start on it. Sinead
  21. Thanks for the update! Glad you arrived safe and sound. Hopefully the jetlag will wear off soon and you can start exploring!! Enjoy it all, this is the start of your adventure!!!
  22. Hi Ben, Something that may help you make your decision - on the State Migration Plan for SA, Software Tester (261314) is listed as "Special Conditions Applies". So unless you meet the special conditions, you won't qualify for sponsorship Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Maybe you could try another visa? Or apply to Victoria, you can always move to SA after!! Hope this helps sinob
  23. Aw Nic, my heart goes out to you. You must feel awful. Sending you a great big hug... They are probably devastated you are leaving and can't handle it. We haven't told my parents yet we're planning to leave as they will be heart broken, and will probably react in much the same way as yours. I wish I could give you some great advice but all I can say is, weather the storm, they will come to terms with it. Thinking of you today.
  24. Best of luck with the repacking, cleaning etc! Safe flight, and please please keep posting from there, I have learnt so much from your posts!!
  25. Congrats on your major milestone! And thank you for your honesty - good for those of us hoping to make a new life in Adelaide to know that the grass is not greener. It's what you make of it right? We have wanted to emigrate for the last ten years, but there was always a reason not to do it yet... if we don't do it now it'll never happen and I don't want to get into my old age thinking "if only.." I like what Jo&Phil said "and if you need to make changes to make you happy, why not give it a go?!" That's it in a nutshell.
