  1. So what do HMRC recognise as the transfer date.. the date the cheque was sent from UK pension, the date it was paid into the Aus Super Account? Or another date? And if the monies are in a holding account held by the Super is that still counted as transferred?
  2. Yeah, they're horrid too. I just pick them up and throw them out. A friend told me if you accidently stand on and crunch one, they stink?? Barf!
  3. Oh my Tyke, meanie nephew, poor little furry fireballs :-( I live next to the old gum tree, I guess its very leafy around there, inc the verges, so perhaps that's why.
  4. No not empty, they're big, dark brown and very furry, velvety. I live in Glenelg and they're munching everything. All plants, lawn, even woody trees! I see them all over the paths and gardens when out walking.
  5. ..... That seem to be everywhere at the moment? This is our second winter in Adelaide and I didn't notice them last year!
  6. Not really no, all life came from the sea anyway how far back are you going? Homo sapiens originally came from Africa.. The continent you mentioned fragmented long before then.. I don't get your confusion?
  7. That continent had split up into the individual continents we now know by the time humans appeared. So it was Africa.
  8. Anil, Do you have a well-written CV that is targeted at the Australian Engineering market? Have you created a LinkedIn profile to help connect to businesses and agencies? Have you been to the many recruitment agencies in Adelaide? http://employment.byron.com.au/recruiters/adelaide If people have been judgmental I think it is because the government make it very clear during the visa process that they will provide minimal assistance. I guess State Sponsorship sounds like there will be more help than there actually will be. One piece of advice I would like to offer, don't think that you can't retrain - or at least take a sidestep into another role. You may have had a good and well-respected job in your country of origin, but that does not mean that you will be able to take a similar position straight away here. Be prepared to start at the bottom, or even make sideways moves. As a new migrant you will have to be adaptable, I'm 41 and have been in my line of work for many years, but that wouldn't stop me applying and training for other roles if the situation demanded. It must be really tough being here with no job and your family back home. Hope that you get on your feet soon. Good luck, David
  9. There has been plenty of helpful advice, what do you feel has not been answered? Yes people have mentioned rules because that's what we are all faced with.. No matter if we think they are unfair.
  10. Wow this boathouse accommodation is amazing, and sadly unavailable that weekend! Bookmarked for another time, thanks Jessica
  11. Brilliant suggestions. I'm so glad I posted on here, thanks so much everyone.
  12. Goolwa - see the signs, never been. Another for me to look into so thank you :-)
  13. I'm very grateful for all of your replies and have contacted several holiday lets/cottages in Normanville (the campsites were full - we're wanting to go Australia Day weekend!). It looks a perfect match for us so fingers crossed. Robe also looks lovely however is a bit far as I’m 6 months pregnant so don’t want to travel too far – thanks anyway, will definitely consider this for future trips. Thanks everyone – would still welcome other suggestions as we’re always popping off for weekend breaks getting to know the beautiful South Australia :-)
  14. Hello PIA members, I was hoping for some suggestions for somewhere to go for a long weekend holiday in SA, somewhere by the sea (walking distance), perhaps in, or near to a town/small village to take strolls, maybe a pub (hotel/bar!)? Ideally no more than 1½ hours drive from Glenelg where we live. We’ve done some of the Fleurieu Peninsula – Victor Harbor, Port Elliot, Encounter Bay, Port Willunga, Middleton etc, beautiful but wanted to try somewhere different. Happy to stay in a B&B, caravan park, holiday apartment, anything really. There’s just the two of us. Ideas would be much appreciated Penny
  15. Hi Sarah, I sent you a couple of private messages, hope you got them....cheers, Penny
  16. Doh! I've just seen the price in your subject header! I'd definitely like them if you're not too far away? I live in glenelg and work at mawson lakes...could you pm me please? Thank you
  17. Hello, please can you tell me how much for the bundle and where you're based? I'm just past the 3 month stage, phew, so can start thinking about stuff like this now! Thanks, Penny
  18. Hi Andy, please can you book me and David a place? Remember we got lost for one of your previous sessions and haven't been able to make any since! Thank you Penny
  19. John mason. Best price, brilliant chaps packed us up in the uk, equally brilliant unpacked in aus. Lots of banter and warmth when i was having a few wobbles in the uk, i showed my appreciation with chippy lunches! Nothing damaged, everything wrapped with love, too much at times, did the tv remote batteries need individualy wrapping?!!
  20. Now been snapped up. Really sorry Dean, someone just pipped you to it
  21. I’ve packed up a box of various kitchen items which we bought 2 months ago when we first arrived in Adelaide. 24. NicF, I hope you have gleaned valuable information from PIA because every post we've read of yours gives SO much solid, useful information and just want to say you're a credit to this site. You've popped up on such a wide range of subjects and have really helped us on several occasions, that you wont even know about! So, thanks Penny & David
