  1. As far as I've understood by reading this thread and also talking about it with my migration agent, if you are here with a 190 visa you can break the agreement with the state if particular conditions may occur, whilst the 489 subclass doesn't allow you to change State even if you move to another regional area.
  2. If it's just you and your partner, it may be convenient to rent a room instead of the whole house. We did that way last january, we found on http://www.homestaybooking.com a beautiful double room in Belair in a villa with pool and tennis court for something like 50$ per day. I preferred this solution because especially the first days having someone "local" to talk with that lives in the same house can be important.
  3. OMG, this pizza alone worth the travel!!!
  4. Good job, vjustme: I think this is the final answer to the OP question!
  5. Can anyone who has a 489 grant letter in his hands check if there is something written?
  6. Nope, I mean that is hard to find not only high level position, but also not so high level jobs... I'm a mechanical designer, 15 years of experience, and even if I have applied for positions like junior draftsperson, I haven't succeeded securing a job in my field in the last three months...
  7. I'm a mechanical designer too, and I am struggling more than I expected to get my first Australian job. In about four weeks of job search I've found a dozen of suitable ads on seek.com.au, then I applied for and had just a couple of (negative) answers. If it wasn't the four seasons in a day city, I'd definitely choose Melbourne, 'cause there's plenty of vacations in our field there.
  8. OMG!!! No, un(?)fortunately in there days we found our home () so we've been too busy to go diving again... If you see it, tell it to wait another week at least
  9. Today I attended an information session for the new arrivals, there at South Australia State Office in Currie street. It was interesting, they gave us a lot of informations on job hunting, training courses and similar. But the thing that made me feel more positive is taking a look at all the people around me, they were all brand new arrivals, looking for a job and a place in this country. I felt I'm not alone, and it's a good sensation when you're down.
  10. I might write it in my resume, under the voice "South Australian experience"
  11. Those ( http://www.immi.gov.au/Visas/Pages/489.aspx#sub-heading-17 ) are the relevant conditions of your visa: "If you were nominated for this visa by a State or Territory government: -You must live, study and work in regional and low population-growth metropolitan area and comply with any residential conditions specified by the State or Territory government in your nomination. -If you later apply for a permanent residence Skilled-Regional visa (subclass 887), you will need to prove that you have spent the specified time in a regional and low population-growth metropolitan area." So the answer to your question should be written in your nomination, then you have to read your grant letter and search for any restrictions concerning change of address/state.
  12. OMG!!! I was diving exactly there at 1.30 that day:shocked:
  13. How funny it is your debate, from a non native speaker POV BTW, it doesn't seem to match that much with the topic the OP put on the table, isn't it?
  14. The subclass 190 is a Skilled Nominated, the skilled independent is the subclass 189. To get a visa by yourself you should perfectly know rules and procedures you'll find along the process. It's feasible, but since you're confusing one type of visa with another, probably you'd better look for the guidance of a migration agent.
  15. It's not this the point, I think that we would prefer a different end in this country, for a story that coming from Europe we saw years ago.
  16. Do you think that UE bureaucrats would be interested in financing our riots too?
  17. I already seen this movie, years ago, in Italy with Alitalia. And I also know the end of the story: the company has been sold to foreign investors and bye bye... But it's the same with Holden, that's following the pathway of FIAT with job cuts and closure of plants, and many other Aussie-based companies. Sometimes I think I could write a book about the future of Australian economy, just collecting past economic news of Italy and some other European countries and changing some names. It's sad that isn't possible to learn from the past mistakes that others made, while building the future...

    Car hire

I agree, I rented a car from them for the first week, Michael is the one I've contacted and he's a very good fellow. Cheap prices, good cars and he also offered us a pick-up service from the airport, that's a very appreciable initiative after twenty four hours on an airplane!
  19. Hi all, me and my wife are experiencing the same situation, being arrived 3 weeks ago here in Adelaide with no jobs. The tips I can give to the OP are: 1st: search (on internet or wherever) the addresses and/or the telephone numbers of the companies you'd like to send your resume. Call them before, and then send your resume attached to a customized cover letter that clearly refers to your previous contact. This can make the difference between a considered resume and a discarded one. 2nd: before choosing your fina location try to secure a job during the short term rental, if you can have one. If it isn't possible, try to choose a suburb placed in the middle of the urban area, but consider that if you're somewhere on the hills you'll reach both northern suburbs or southern one more easily than starting from a trafficated central part of the city, as i.e.Mile End or Unley. That's because starting from a peripheral suburb you'll face the traffic only in the last part of your journey to work.
  20. Yep, the move of suppressing the express trains on the southern line is really unexplicable.
  21. To be honest, since I was in Europe Aldinga Beach seen from google maps seemed to be a good place where to live, but right yesterday I've tried to reach the CBD starting from Aldinga and then, after 45 minutes in the car (and it was not peak hour), I've realized that I can't afford any trip longer than Christies Beach/Port Noarlunga-City. Not everyday, at least...
  22. Can't tell you anything about the costs 'cause I'm moving from Italy, so different routes and different prices, but about the capacity of the containers I think that a 20 feet like the one I'll fill tomorrow morning ( )has a good capacity. We're shippig two sofas, two double beds, one table with six chairs, two cupboards, one bookcase, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine, two large tv, two desks, three chests, two mountain bikes and there's still space for 80/100 boxes (50x50x40cm).
  23. I'm 42, my wife 40, and our daughter is 20 and married so we're virtually with no kids. I think that this is a great condition to make the move,. At fourty you are experienced about life, more than when you were thirty, and you are healty more than when you'll be fifty. You know all the details of living in Europe, you exactly know what it means to go on your way, so if you decide to change your life you can do it with no regrets, because you're not missing new experiences here, you're simply catching new ones on the other side of the planet. I think that, since we have a one way ticket on this world, we should do our best to live it all. In fourty years we had a loooong time to read the "Europe" chapter of the book named Earth, and it's a good moment to turn the page and start reading another page. I'm flying to Australia in fiftyfive days and I'm really looking forward to start this new experience, I wish all the best for me and for everyone who is doing the same in this moment of life, OP included. See ya downunder!!!
