Warning BTC

    Recommended Posts

    Hello everyone,

    just had a second call from BTC, a computer company......................

    Telling us we had a virus on our computer, which causes it to download other viruses from the internet.

    Apparently the "international routing agency" based in Malaysia have reported it to them; hence they got our phone number from our IP address!!!

    This is a scam! Please DO NOT start up your computer and follow their instructions; they will be asking you to essentially allow remote access to your computer, and therefore any personal details are at risk.

    Fortunately for us, the OH is very savvy in the technical world, and told them point blank, our computers are not infected, our IP address is not known in OZ, and if they ring again, we will report them;

    suffice to say our caller hung up very quickly................

    Take Care out there.

    And exactly how would they know what's on your computer in your own house when you had never had any dealings with them?

    It certainly pays to be aware and have the good old 's***' detector switched on doesn't it.

    I have had the people saying they are from microsoft several times even we are on the do not call register. I just put the phone down on them. Well done to the OP for alerting people to it, I worry that people might be scammed too.

    Basically, cos im no expert................

    these guys get you to open up your computer, then instruct you on how to go into your IP address, and allow them to remotely access your computer( so they can wipe the viruses?!). this then allows them full access to your personal files; banking details, passwords, etc. Befor you know it, you are in the system, liable for all sorts of debts etc, and gordon bennet, you could end up as the head of a porn ring/ people traffiking concern or whatever.

    Bit scarey i know, but this is the sort of thing that happens..............im told, pays to have your own security.....
