Jealousy brings out the worst in some people.

"Too much public money".......blah blah blah. "The dress was old fashioned".....blah blah blah. " The hats were terrible".........blah blah.

Republican's have to face up to the fact that their view is currently irrelevant when The Monarchy is clearly so supported by so many.

the wedding was a HUGE waste of taxpayer money...plain and simple. not sure why so many people move over here than have a go at the Aussies:/

Who was having a go at the Aussies?!!! The post started by highlighting an obviously second rate Aussie err "Journalist" (in the loosest sense of the word!!) ripping the Royal wedding to shreds and lots of facts and figures completely wrong... Anyway you're not even an English tax payer so why get your knickers in such a twist?? :biglaugh::biglaugh:

Why so condescending guys?? We've only been here 5 months and already we have made many friends and have "INTEGRATED" with lots of wonderful Australian people. That wasn't even the point of the post. Remarks like this just provoke hostility

Well we had a great party and invited all our friends, most of whom were actually Aussies who made a great effort to dress up and have lots of fun. I was surprised at the number of people who were genuinely interested in wanting to watch the event on our big TV. Royal Weddings don't happen very often and it doesn't matter what nationality you are, it was a fantastic day to be celebrated by everyone all over the world!

lots and lots of soldiers, hangers on, hotels etc etc etc who paid for that lot

stevo

You prob find that the soldiers part would be part of their job description as in serve the queen...

At the end of the day as alot of posters have wrote already stated, most of us live in this lovely place now so what does it really matter how much it cost and who paid for it..i dnt pay tax there so it really doesnt bother me in the slightest....

The middletons are estimated to be worth in excess of 30million quid.......not bad for knocking out a few party bags :-)

And she is classed as a commoner!!!! Bloody hell....they must have some wealthy commoners in her neck of the woods lol

The Middletons were not of working class standards. Kate went to St Andrews University and Pippa went to Edinburgh University and both were socialising and mingling with royalty.

Excuse me, are you saying that people of "working class standards" can't or don't go to University?

Good luck to the Middleton's but to be fair, the father is a "Commoners" from Leeds and the mother a "Commoner" from a working class mining/labouring family from Sunderland. Before they made their millions selling party bags they worked for BA The father as a dispatcher and the mother as a trolley dolly.

It would be fair to say that because of their business success the Middletons could be called Middle Class (if people could be bothered to care) and the fact that the Middleton children mingled with societies elite is purely down to the success of that business and the money made through hard work.

Mr Middletons family have been discovered to be distantly related to a family which makes Catherine and William fifth cousins, however it is not clear if this "Discovery" was made before or after it became known they would marry.

This just all goes to show that if you get a business idea that makes you millions then you might just give your children opportunities to rise in the social strata :-)

Oh and in case you wonder, I hope William becomes the next King of England in place of Charley Farley.
