Hello to all my fellow poms.

We moved to Adelaide in 2005, from Welling, Kent, myself, hubby and two daughters.

This time of year, has always been the hardest, it just doesn't feel like christmas.

Anyone got any ideas?

Maggie

Hi Maggie,

I've lived in Oz for nearly 40 years and I have to admit I still miss the English Christmas. Here, I just always put carols on by mid December and decorate the house with tree etc and make lots of christmasy food things, enjoying a traditional sherry whilst cooking! I'm from Brighton in Sussex and I know they celebrate beautifully at this time of year. Still I wouldn't trade it as I couldn't stand the cold weather.

Hope you have a lovely Christmas - with lots of christmas cheer!

I have never thought of the races on boxing day - are they at morphett race course? Is there enough for kids to do?

Sounds fun, might have to give that a try this year!

Ditto! Would like to know where the races are too - sounds fun !

Christmas is different here - not so commercialised, not every one stressed to make it a 'perfect' day, Christmas carols in the park with picnics and candles, Christmas pageants in bright sunshine (well, Glenelg's was!), turkey (or shrimp!) on the barbie, sitting outside in the warm with party hats and reading motto's whilst consuming champagne cocktails (or insert drink of choice) - yes different but I LOVE IT!!!

Sounds great, we arrive in 4 weeks time on new years day!! I can't even think of xmas here as there is so much to do and it's getting in the way. Put tree up 2 weeks ago as it has to come down on the 15th!!

Cannot wait to get there - just please no snow before we arrive!

Hi Jane.

Thanks for your reply.

40 years, and you still miss our English Xmas? I know that you need to make the most of things, so I am putting up the tree and decs today. Xmas songs are playing, so I am trying.

Merry Xmas.

Hi Catherine.....yes it is Morphett race course......it is a great day, loads of poms there~ the kids get a showbag when you go in and then they have a small funfair there with rides and bits so the kids go on those, all included in the price so they can have as many go's as they like........may see you there then ~

Morphett race course.......is a great day, you can take your own food and soft drink which is what ends up making it a pricey day, can of cokes and grub etc.(don't panic a bottle of bubbles is only $20) It is such good fun drinking in the sunshine having a little flutter whilst the kids go on the rides at the small funfair, included in the entry price of $20... bugged~!

I looked online and it said $10 entry for adults, $0 for under 18's - Do you get a different kind of ticket which includes the kids stuff? Do you book in advance or pay on the day?

Carolyn

The Henley square thing looks good too, thanks for sharing
