Hi Guys,

I have seen a lot of great things been written about life in the southern suburbs like port noarlunga and would love to make it our home as housing is affordable too, however since I will be the main bread winner for the family, I expect to find a job close or in the CBD, I Would like to park my car at the station and travel by train to the cbd, if so what are the travel times, Google maps gives me a total travel time of just over an hour each way? is that correct?

Would a train and tram combination save more time?

If I'm driving to and fro daily, what would be the drive time? and is it practical to drive 30+ Kms each way in Adelaide, and do employers usually provide parking for employees? or should I just concentrate on finding a home close to transit points?

If I want to keep travel times under an hour, how for south could we look at?

Lots of questions I know, but would value any insight on this.

Thanks

For train journey times have a look at the Adelaide Metro site here => https://www.adelaidemetro.com.au. I've found google maps to be a bit out on bus times so it will probably be out on train times. Generally it's quite good with driving times but it might not have been updated with the new speed limits on the freeway - a lot of it was 60km while they were doing road words but I believe it's much quicker now. Which is best will depend on how far from the train station your future employer is and how flexible they are with start and finish times.

As for parking in the CBD, very few employers offer this. Some do, but it tends to be as part of the package. Unless you are looking at a very senior position you are likely to have to pay for car parking. Early bird car parking in the CBD is $12 or $13 a day depending on the car park. You can also get a monthly passes for some car parks which works out slightly cheaper, and some employers will allow you to salary sacrifice the cost saving you even more.

I travel to most of the hospital around the CBD from Port Noarlunga and it never takes more than about 40 minutes to get in, often as little as 30 since the expressway has opened. Weirdly it can take longer on the way home!

That does sound encouraging! Thanks! Would the drive back be under an hour?
