We are a family of 4 from Dukinfield in cheshire , hopeing to be in adelaide by christmas . our visas were granted in jan 08 [ 136 subclass ] and need to be activated by mid december 08. we have 2 problems though , firstly our 18 year old daughter has decided to stay in the uk [ god knows why ]. me and the oh and our 10 year old son want to be there so soon. secondly the housing market in the uk is slow at the moment , house prices dropping etc. [ oh is a manager at the estate agents, dont slag her off ]. By the way we visited oz in december o6/o7 we went to sydney/adelaide where we visited our best mates who emigrated 4/5 years ago who live in modbury. We liked adelaide so much ,we just fell in love with the plaice [cant say exactly why] We hope to be there soon. we used four corners as agents they were very good and so helpful. sorry for going on , have used this site and got so much help and advice from you all, just had to join . thanks again wayne n louise. ;););)

Hi Wayne and Louise,

Welcome to the boards. We are selling our house off cheap so we can move out. Like you we have to validate by December. As the market is pants and shows no sign it will improve to have the move done in time for us to go, we have decided to cut our losses and just go.

If Louise can't shift your house then what hope for the rest of us? :biglaugh::biglaugh:

You caugh me out though. I thought your names were gonna be Nat and Dan. :biglaugh:

Hi Natdan

I'm sure your daughter will go when the time comes. I had the same problem with my daughter, she is 20 now and we aren't making the move until Jul 09. When we applied I made her promise that she would come, despite where she was in her life, give it 2 years...until we get citizenship and then if she didn't like it then she could return to the Uk, but would always be able to come back to Oz. She agreed at the time, and has changed her mind a few times now (there have been quite a lot of heated debates about it!). In the end, I got so fed up of it I told her to stay in UK if she wanted. I don't know if that frightened her, but she has now decided to come over and is looking forward to it. You should tell your daughter to give it time and if she doesn't like it then return. She won't know if she doesn't try. My daughter has a couple of friends who now want to go as well. They will come out on a working holiday visa. I'm sure they will also like it as they are all outgoing and friendly and the ozzie way of life will suit them to a t! Maybe you could also suggest something like that to her aswell. (most kids take time out to travel and I'm sure she'll have some friends who would love the chance to do that!) Only a suggestion....but it may help! But at the end of the day don't worry about it. I'm sure she will panic at the thought of you leaving her behind!

I'm sure your Daughter will come round.I hope she does and there will be a few teenagers/early twenty year olds about to make friends/socialise e.t.c.

Hi all.

For those of you trying to sell your house in the UK, have you considered renting it out? There was quite a long thread on this recently for others in the same situation.

Inevitably the housing will pick up and prices will also over the longer term. It seems a shame to have to drop thousands of pounds (double in A$$$).
