  1. Hi, cars do cost alot of money here to buy. You could check out the oz website for values on www.carsales.com.au to compare with the sale price in England to what it would cost to buy here. Europeon car parts and service can be very expensive and parts not always readily available. My OH works for Repco authorised repairer, which gives nationwide warrenty on service/repairs. He is at Blackwood not far from Hallett Cove. Warrenty are available to buy, but I believe only on cars up to 10 years old. Hope that helps!
  2. I take you are also checking Seek.com.au as well?
  3. Hi. I cant recommend this place as I dont know anyone who has stayed. However, my brother in law is coming over this week and asked us about places near to us where he can stay. We have booked him in at Esplanade Hotel at Brighton and this is costing $350 for the week. The place is in a lovely setting right on the sea front, lots of restaurants close by up Jetty Road. We will know more later this week about the place. I have attached a link for you to look at; http://www.esplanadehotel.com.au/ All the best. Carole
  4. Hi Rachael I work for a business in Mile End. 25 Goodenough Street. Tel 8231 9262. I am sure a few of us would really appreciate a morning coffee run. thanks Carole

Assisting with reception duties and ad hoc duties to assist Finance Manager. Both positions offer award rates but dependant on candidate. Our company is based in Mile End. 6. I am sure people will have had good experiences with White & Co, but just to let you know we didnt. Travelled from Lancashire, so the depo near yours may be better. Goods were damanged and some went missing, plus delivery was a lot lot later than what they said it would be!
  7. I go with bring everything too! Even Quit covers, Duvet (it does get cold here in winter). Another thing we did and wished we hadnt ,was throw loads of our clothes out. Not sure what height you are, but I find it difficult to find clothes for the slightly short. Again, even bring your jumpers and coats. Not sure if you were thinking of shipping your car either, but they are expensive too here. If you hadnt got air con, dont worry, it can be fitted quite cheaply. Not meaning to make it sound cold and miserable, we get lovely hot summers as well.

    wine tour

We have done a few. We have used Des's Mini Buses and they have suggested places to go and even booked us in at the winery. All you have to do is get enough people to fill the mini bus. We have noticed that not all wineries like big groups, late teens sort of amount.
  9. Hi Andi Great post. I totally remember that feeling especially at the 2 month stage...OMG what have we done I constantly thought and yes lots of tears! It took around 14 months before I felt settled and even now 2 years in, you get those low days. From my experience, friends make a big impact on getting settled here... they become like a family. We started off in Marino, then Seacliff, so know Kingston Park quite well, so I think you have chosen a great place to start, those views and beachs close by can help alot on a down day. If you every fancy a brew or a glass or two of wine, give us a shout. Take care, it does get easier Carole x
  10. We had a rental in Seacliff, on the Esplanade, 3 bed, 1 bathroom, 1 garage and car port. 5 minutes walk to Seacliff station. 200m from Seacliff Hotel (great pub eating place) Loved living there but just bought our own place. Will PM you landlords number.
  11. Thanks Sparky Cat If we wanted to hire a steam cleaner, where would the best place be - I can only think of bunnings at the minute?
  12. You funny people..... no responses, so Jo, I will have Ged afterall, he is well trained you tell me. Dan.... who hired a oven cleaner when they moved. ummmmmm Some people have a hectic social life to lead you know, plus its what keeps the economy going round . lol
  13. Hi I wonder if anyone can recommend a reliable with reasonable rates person or company to do some end of lease cleaning for us, plus carpet steam clean. We are looking to have this done, this Friday, 20 August 2010. Many Thanks
  14. We stayed there to. Great location. Angela the land lady was a great help too :-)
  15. Hi, only just seen your message. We have a full schedule this week, so wont be able to get up to you before you leave. I sure someone will snap it up. All the best for your journey back x
  16. We will be interested if Lee doesn't buy it. Whereabouts are you for collection?
  17. Hi The form you should have completed when you left the UK, was a P85. In terms of lodging returns, it does depend on what your residency status is too, whether you are classed as temporary or permanent resident here.
  18. Hi Tyke, you are right, I was never off this site back in the UK, planning to get to Adelaide, now I only guest now and again, whilst the rules have changed with visa's etc, I guess we do have alot of advice we could share with new members. We have been here 18 months now, we have both found jobs fairly easily. Andrews earnings are about the same, although he says he has never worked as hard. My earnings are less, but I know I have Auzzies quirks to learn. Andrew settled really quickly, for me it has took time and some days, still feel, is this where I am going to spend the rest of my life?? not sure?? The best things are, the friends we have met and how great the social life is here, I put that down to the better weather, I think people are generally happier because of the sunshine and that makes them want to get out and about. No point staying in TV stinks!!! lol I agree with other posts, it is so clean here, seriously, no litter, bins emptied, even on a Public holiday. You cant beat the sunshine and beaches. Australians in the main are wonderful friendly people, willing to help. Down sides are, its not cheap, most things are more expensive than Uk, except, fuel and junk food (IMO), as we came from the north of England, which is cheaper than other areas of UK. Overall, I would not have liked to miss the opportunity to live in another country and who knows, I might spend the rest of my life here. England have made some huge mistakes and lost many great skills and people to oz, so Englands loss in Aussies Gain.!! Life is not a rehearsal Good luck to all of those planning to move and good luck to those that have done, but it wasnt for them, they tried and some can only dream! Over and Out

    homesick

Hiya I think it is different for everyone. It kind of frustrated me to hear of people settling straight away because I wanted that too and it didnt happen. I dont know exactly what did it, but it came around the 14 month mark and I think it may have Christmas/ New year time, when I realised we had a fabulous social life here and met many great people. Having a permanent job helps, but I think friends mainly make the difference. Dont throw the towell in just yet, it does take time. What you have done so far is just amazing. Good luck Carole
  20. Hey Andy Finally drawn me out of guesting.... Mentioned it to Andrew and he's in too. Although he did say he didnt think half an hour was enough. ha ha. Told him 6.30 till 7.00 Carole
  21. Hi Jo & Tom Just like to wish you well with the Med results. We had a stressful time with the meds, like you we had a report done and all went through fine. I think they are more concerned if you are going to be a burden on the health system... which you are not. So I think you will be fine. x Patricia P- We are from Chorley too, living in Seacliff now. Someone sent us the Chorley Citizen a few weeks ago.... and we read 15s had shut down on fazackerly street... dont know if you went there. How are you finding things so far in Adelaide? Carole and Andrew
  22. Hi and Welcome. Send Suzer a PM (private message). She organises meets in the City, under a group called ex pats in adelaide. I think the next meet is on 11 March . Carole n Andrew
  23. HI Mandy Sounds like you are busy sorting now and not long to go eh Our situation is we were both employed. We completed the P85 for Andrew and he got a tax rebate back in about 6 weeks of £560 ish. I couldnt submit mine until the end of the tax year, as i have rental income. As you have sold your house, there is no reason why you cant get this submitted and get that lovely tax rebate. I will say one thing though, it could take a little longer as the self assessment deadline has just passed so the tax office get thousand of tax returns to deal with... might keep them a little busy before dealing with refunds!! All the best Carole
