    Emirates

We've flown both Emirates and Singapore and preferred Emirates. We had a stopover in Dubai which was great.
  4. Hi Our first agent charged us 10% of rental income per month but our new agent charges 10% plus VAT so interested in seeing your replies. Tracey
  5. No, I work for Flinders University and standard hours are 36 hrs 45 mins. I work 0.9 over 5 days. Tracey
  6. For information the majority of jobs in Australia advertised for 'Stonemasons' are for those experienced in granite eg worktops and not your traditional stonemason.
  7. Hi We absolutely love it, our neighbors are fantastic (Australians, New Zealanders, Irish, American, Chinese, Egyptian, South African) & although they call it 'little Britain' we haven't any pom neighbors. We're walking distance from the train station & have gorgeous sea views. My daughter attends the R12 school and settled in very quickly. Tracey
  8. Hi Your daughter should be able to go to the school dentist & get treatment free, we have private through BUPA but would have still cost me a few hundred dollars so she had all her treatment through the school dentist. Our son looked into Noble & went to the dentist in Glenelg but because he only needed an extraction was advised not to join through Noble & just pay private as it would cost him more with joining fees. Going Home

My OH is a brickie and he's really struggling for work, the odd job here and there it's a nightmare. He's applied for loads of labouring jobs but when he speaks to the agents things sound promising & then nothing. Unemployment figures are obviously way out because there are so many people out of work who are not entitled to any benefits so are not registered as unemployed. We still rent our house in UK and if we'd not spent so much money coming to Australia would have been mortgage free. My OH had loads of work during our first year here so we went ahead & bought a house and now have a mortgage double what we had in UK. There are loads of brickies who have been here years who are struggling for work so any newbies don't stand a chance. Just hoping things will pick up sooner rather than later.
  10. Hi Dominique Does that mean you have decided to come back to Adelaide? Tracey
  11. I have been a member on here for some years now and one of the first questions I asked opened me up to abuse - I continued to view the site which I found invaluable but very rarely posted as I had been made to feel my question was irrelevant. This site is supposed to be about helping anyone and everyone and I don't recall reading anything about you having to have contributed before asking for help. I have contributed to the site as well as asked for help on several occasions and appreciate the fantastic advice I've been given. The job situation at the moment is absolutely dire so I can understand everyone asking for help/advice but please leave out the sarcastic comments - things are tough enough as it is!! http://www.pomsinadelaide.com/forum/out-about-sa/7654-ebay-general-internet-shopping-common-adelaide-2.html
  12. Hi Would just like to vouch for Terry. He's a great lad and it's certainly not without trying that he hasn't been able to find work, he must have rang every company in Adelaide for plastering or labouring jobs so if anyone out there knows of anything please consider him & give him a break - we don't want him to go home either I know it's a long shot as there's no work for brickies but if anyone knows of anyone looking for a brickie/stonemason my oh has 26 years' experience. He's currently almost finished a tiling job so has nothing lined up. Please pm me. Thank you Tracey
  13. Hi I have sent you a pm. Tracey

    Cheap shops

There's also the Reject Shop which is more like your Home Bargains (do miss that shop) & they even had Fairy washing up liquid which I've not seen over here.

    Babysitter charges?

Hi My daughter is 17 and usually gets paid around $10+ an hour. She drives so can make her own way home so if anyone is looking for a babysitter please pm me. Tracey
  16. Hi I'm still waiting for Go Matilda to get back to me. It's definitely not worth him going back to the UK to get another bricklaying qualification, he already has done his 2 years apprenticeship and because the construction industry is on its knees he has always had to work as a labourer. Prior to us moving out here in 2010 my husband who has over 25 years experience as a bricklayer was struggling to keep himself going & had several weeks out of work which he had never in his entire working life done before so for newly qualified bricklayers there is not much hope for them getting the experience. Thank you for all your advice. Tracey
  17. Hi Reena I've just posted recently re my 23 year old son so if you want to check out the replies http://www.pomsinadelaide.com/forum/adelaide-migration-issues/29979-last-remaining-relative-visa-advice-please.html they may help. I'm going to ring Go Matilda for advice on Monday. Good luck Tracey
  18. Thank you for the replies, will contact Go Matilda on Monday for their advice. Tracey
  19. Hi He's never been an academic person & didn't enjoy school, he's more of a hands on person so don't think he'd be able to do a degree. Think I need to start advertising for a wife for him - maybe PIA should set up its own dating agency lol. Tracey
  20. My 23 year old son is just coming to the end of his first year's working holiday visa and about to apply for this second year. I've just spoken to the migration agent about how he could stay in Australia permanently thinking we could apply for the last remaining relative visa as he has no siblings or parents in the UK & have been informed that he wont be able to stay. The last remaining relative visa takes >10 years & they no longer do a bridging visa so he would have to go back to the UK & wait for his visa or apply for a skilled visa himself & although he did his apprenticeship in bricklaying he has only ever worked as a labourer. The only option he has is to do a degree which is not going to happen as he is not in the least bit interested in studying. He only has his friends in the UK as he's not close to any other relatives so not sure where he's going to have to go back to. If anyone knows of any other options please advise. Thank you Tracey
  21. Hi The other option would be to have several lessons with an instructor & when you feel ready take the test with an examiner - you don't have to do the 75 hrs driving then just enough for you to pass. Tracey

    Dental care

Hi Try giving GP dental plus a ring, they are next to the new sports stadium at Marion. I took my daughter there yesterday as part of the teen dental plan & it didn't cost me anything. The receptionist advised me that there was a maximum cap on children's dental & even though I have private health insurance it still works out very expensive going private (over $300 for fillings). They don't take private patients and as she's under 17 she gets her treatment free. Tracey

    Xbox queries

Hi My son has a UK Xbox & wants to use Xbox live. He wasn't a member in UK as he only purchased his Xbox just prior to coming to oz. He has purchased a points card in Oz but still couldn't get online. Does he have to have a UK online account due to his Xbox being from UK? Any advice welcome. Thank you Tracey
