  1. I use Phil at Choyce24 quite often to get stuff to the showgrounds - he's cheap and reliable As an idea he charges me $50 to move a couple of pallets of stuff from Plympton to Goodwood just don't judge a book by its cover ;-) http://yourchoyce247.com.au/

    U Brew It

    Yeah I've just made a brew of hoegaarden using a groupon voucher - 144 bottles for $129 Takes around 3 hours to make the stuff and you get free beer during that time!! I did it at the para hills one and the staff there were a great bunch It's all good fun and the beer I tasted was really good - old speckled hen and a pale ale Off to pick my bottles up in a couple of weeks - one thing to note is that it needs to be stored in a fridge straight away as there are no preservatives
  4. I'll be there with my R2D2 along with a load of other Star Wars geeks!!! http://www.r2inadelaide.com

  8. its fine to download from amazon.com and amazon.co.uk in adelaide - appears to make no check of ip address
  9. i have a uk amazon account but mostly use the amazon.com international site to download my kindle books - there are some books that are on the uk site that are unavailable on the .com one and vice versa but using the manage my kindle link on the site its fairly straight forward to switch between the 2
  10. If the 4 adults are 2 couples then I recommend Currawong Cottage which we stayed at earlier this year. Its in Vivonne Bay and nestled in the dunes a short walk away from the beach - excellent for an early morning swim!!! Ideal location close to all the main attractions with a small shop down the lane. Theres also a BBQ on the decking More info can be found here
  11. diane here you go Ticketek Australia click on venue map
  12. yes you do need to and they have made friends with members of the Fanatics to get addresses to register for the acf but they can still pay using uk credit cards and ask for the tickets to be delivered to the credit card address
  13. yes the barmy army are looking to get their tickets for the grass area near the scoreboard - can get a bit hot there so i'm going in the stands but will no doubt take wander down there for a session or two Quite a few of the barmy army that are not part of package tours have made aussie freinds or joined the acf to make sure they get tickets

  15. Went to see this show on Friday night - it was fantastic and well worth going along to before the end of the festival "chickens can't fly - fun fact number 1"
  16. Hi, it might be worthwhile joining the Australian Computer Society, specifically the SA branch, either beforehand or when you get here as they hold numerous events where you can get to meet with IT people across many industries within Adelaide When we arrived I went to a couple of the "IT in thepub" sessions and managed to make quite a few contacts who were willing to meet for a chat etc Go to http://www.acs.org.au/ and click the events section - you can turn up to most without actually joining the ACS I was speaking to my agent last week and he says that as far as his company is concerned IT hasn't really seen a downturn in SA over the past year I got a job within 4 weeks - although it is a contract and a technical role as opposed to managerial but I expected that as mangers roles appear to be given on how well you're known within the city!! I'm sure you'll find jobs once you get here cheers mick
  17. I found Tennyson Group very helpful and they have a very good working relationship with many Adelaide businesses and got me my current IT job http://www.ttg.com.au/ good luck mick

    import tax?

    yeah sometimes that works sometimes not fingers crossed ;-)

    import tax?

    thats odd cos amazon have delivered a couple of things to me here and my credit card is still registered in the uk as you suggested - why not get it delivered to someone in the uk first and have them send it over - you will be liable to import duty on the declared value (you can put as low value but then you're screwed on insurance if anything happens) if it gets picked up at customs which seems a random affair to me as i've had some get caught and some not !?!?!?

  23. This is just my opinion and I know some people will disagree but... I came on a 475 and had not applied for any jobs before arriving but had kept my eye on the job market both in the press, through contacts and through seek.com.au I went to the resume and job workshops that are provided by the SRS department of the government and found them worthwhile especially in getting the resume and cover letter sorted so that they stood out from the crowd I previously worked in a senior management position in IT in the UK but after taking several peoples views on board decided that I may have to go back slightly to establish myself within Adelaide and it does appear that a lot of jobs are not advertised and are sorted by word of mouth I started a job within 4 weeks of arriving and didn't mention 475 on my resume but did at the interview and showed the letter that you talk of to my employer and they were fine with it and I got it from a post on here somewhere - sure someone will point you in the right direction The position is slightly lower than what I left the UK but I am working 37.5 hours per week and not the 60+ that was the norm in the UK so well pleased!!!! I have read some people have not had the same experiences with certain employers but I'm sure you'll be fine Fingers crossed and good luck
  24. We paid $200/week in our OAA in Glandore almost opposite the tram station It was fine for the money and due to its position helped us settle in quickly although we were glad to move out you can see some photos of the place at http://mickpell.blogspot.com/2009/03/adelaide-last.html it was very basic but all bills included which made it easier on the finances for the first couple of months cheers mick
