  1. I have lived in oz a few years now and to be honest I have a mix of different friends English and Aussie, I find no difference in any. I believe it's just the same in England (good and bad), I also work with a good number of Aussies and find them nothing but friendly, hey yeh there is that usual banter!!! I love it here and haven't had a problem with this country, I believe if you look for bad things or over analyse situations then maybe you will see it clearer than others
  2. Toneless, vetassess only regulates your quals whilst applying to emigrate over here, and really doesn't account for much once you are here, it's then up to you to enrol in Tafe SA or other training establishments to get your license.
  3. To be fair Toneless and Howde, we have settled in really well, both me and the wife started work after only 2 weeks of being here and both the girls settled in the school really easy, however to get your quals recognised here is a little difficult than expected and all plumbers and electricians HAVE to do the RPL process. Here in SA they used to do night schooling at regency Tafe which is now called Tafe SA, but now that has stopped and only weeks days are available, which makes things a little more difficult to complete if you have to work to live. I won't let this deter me tho, eventually I will get my license sorted. I am now looking at working in the mines which would give me time off to complete my license , and it's good money too. Look, I wouldn't deter anyone to come here, we love it and have no intentions of going back to the uk. We feel that we have a few hurdles in the way, however we will jump them and then I will be 100% content about settling In SA.
  4. So I am now considering working in the mines and wondered if someone could direct me in the right direction to get started in this industry
  5. Hey people of PIA, i have lived in Adelaide for 18 months now and tried to get in at Tafe to finish my plumbing license so many times but no one is getting back to me, I have completed most of my RPL and have been told I need to spend 5-7 weeks full time at Tafe SA to complete the elements, iv rang and left messages, emailed and even went in and spoke to a senior lecturer whom in turn told me they would contact me to sort this out....that was 5 weeks ago and no call!!! What does actually take to get noticed here??
  6. Well done, a step closer is such good news!!!
  7. No problem Bernadette, we've only been here since January, however we have achieved so much and gathered loads of information, we were really fortunate to have help from others who made life and the transition more easier for us, you were I am if you need any help!! Gary
  8. Here in oz, you have to be working for an employer for a minimum of 3 months before a mortgage is offered, if you need any advise my wife works for the NAB bank here in oz, just ask and if we can help we will. The transition is very overwhelming and takes a little getting used to, however this is a great state and some lovely areas and you start to feel Like your home again. Just hang in there and good luck, you will be fine I'm sure Gary

  17. We have recently returned back to the UK after spending 3 glorious weeks in Moana SA, the reason for this thread is tell you all out there on P.I.A about a property we stayed in that we found off this forum site. The property is called or listed under coast and vines and is owned and ran by a lovely family, who, in my eyes have created a home from home, they haven't left anything out!!!!!!!!! When we arrived we were all very nervous and didnt know what to expect, however as soon as we walked through the door, we found a greeting card, instructions for all the local amenities, the owners contact details due to emergencies and the house had everything you would need from a HOME to settle in for a short while. It had instant and clean hot and cold water, washing machine, dishwasher, oven and hob, microwave, fridge freezer, fully fitted kitchen, all the utensils and cutlery you could need, a big clean BBQ, lovely garden with furniture and much more, they have even put in playstations ,TV's, DVD and freeview boxes, i could go on and on, actually you would think i owned and was promoting this holiday home, but i can assure you im not, i just believe that credit where its due and im sure everyone would be happy there. The beach, club house and cafe are minutes walk away. We would highly recommend this property to anyone, if your interested either PM me or log on to coastandvinesrental.co.au happy hunting Gary
  18. HI all, We are finally flying out to Adelaide in the next 3weeks to validate our visas, so we will be busy trying to find nice areas to live and jobs etc. I have recently completed the Plumbing GAP training and will need to sign up for my registration, i was wondering if anyone could steer me in the right direction, and point me to the right organisation or council. I am also intrigued in the processing times, will i get things sorted whilst im there (2weeks)? Well would appreciate some help please and would also be grateful if someone would point me to the best place for job searching, whether it be job centres, local newspapers or internet sites that i might not have heard of, im currently on seek and career one.com. Thanks for reading this and if you have good advise, it would be welcomed. Gary
  19. sorry all just realised that i put this thread on healthcare and dont know how to transfer it to jobs, so i will start another one on the jobs bit. Gary

  21. Well everyone, thanks for your comments, it seems to me that John Mason is the company that gets a lot of votes and the least hassle, and to be fair they were recommended by a friend who moved out to brisbane 2 years ago, but things sometimes change, this is why i asked. From my investigations through P.I.A i have however found that there are a few companies that are rubbish and dont seem to care about how they treat there customers, maybe this is due to complacency and they expect the name to draw new business, i dont know. Anymore advise would be welcomed, this something i need to sort quite quickly.. Gary
  22. thanks Matt, i have Anglo Pacific down on my list of movers, the cost is not always the issue (it helps lol), but i will be asking them to quote, can you remember roughly what they quote? Cheers Gary
  23. iv been on the internet to start making arrangements for overseas movers to come to my house and quote for packing and shipping my furniture over to SA in July/August, firstly there's so many to chose from and i haven't physically got the time to go through them all, secondly, who do you trust nowadays, im normally a first impression person, but unfortunately that wont work with this issue i have. Could i have some feedback, even if its not good from people of there experiences in oversea removers, please PM me if you would like to name names. I would like to get some recommendations to narrow my search down please please please... Many thanks Gary
  24. LOL i have already started to buy it, just journey of cleaning ahead of me now!!
  25. Friends of mine tried to take packed decorations over that were only weeks old, and ended up having to pay incineration fees $110-00 for some £2-50 decorations, its not worth the hassel or like everyone else says unpack it. Gary
