  1. Our last electric bill was $21 in credit, moved into our new home in October which already had solar fitted and haven't yet paid for any electricity!!! Wicked!
  2. Elvis, my pet mouse has just died.....he was caught in a trap! Apparently towels are the biggest cause of dry skin! i buy all my guns from a guy called T Rex..he's a small arms dealer!
  3. we came out in Sept 2011,mum,step dad, then 22,18 and 15 year old boys. since arriving have had some huge ups and huge downs, biggest down being the 18yr old returning to UK and biggest up buying our own house in Seacombe Heights with amazing sea/city views. would i recommend it...yes def..we both struggled to get work initially, tho both landed casual temp work quite quickly, but are both now in full time perm employment. It is dearer here but like others have said, we live okay, you just have to learn what is important to you, and ours is the quality family time we have, which often involves a walk with the dog on the beach followed by a coffee at the end...a very cheap but fulfilling afternoon spent! i am very proud of how we have made it work here as it def isnt easy, spec initially, and of how the boys have settled. If im honest i do worry about the youngest and employmeny when he finishes school, but im sure that would be the case if were still in UK. we came with no jobs, had been to Australia but not Adelaide and maybe we have been lucky, but i do believe you get out what you put in. Good luck to all about to jump!
  4. We have just had our air con replaced by Andy from Critical Climates (thank goodness..we are cool again!) and can thoroughly recommend him...good price, prompt and an excellent job with the fitting..sooo tidy. if your looking for anything done to your air con Andy is your man!
  5. What others are saying about driving off is so true. My son's car was hit in Cole's carpark, they drove off,(was an old lady) but a witness wrote the number plate down and make of car with description of driver and when my son went to the.police they said there was nothing they could do as his word against hers even though there was a witness willing to testify, absolutely crazy!! His car has since been hit again and once again they drove off.
  6. We did the lunch cruise in November with my dad and son when over from the UK, had a great time, esp as we got a voucher from groupon for $90 for the four of us. The 2 courses where a main choice of warm bacon and chicken salad or fish and chips, then dessert choice of pavlova or brandy basket both with fruit..all very fresh and nice size portions. The staff were lovely and the bar reasonbly priced. would thoroughly recommend it, even paying full price i would have been very happy. highly recommend it!
  7. hopefully these are rotated and better to view!! we are in seaview downs (near Brighton) and maybe able to deliver if local.
  8. mmmm...some need rotating...have to tilt your head..the last pic is the wardrobe, and obv is not meant to be that way. will try rotate. Sarah

  10. Hi guys Welcoming our first visitors from the UK in a couple of weeks, one of them being my 18 yr old son - who returned to UK after 10weeks here as couldnt settle, so cant wait to see them, esp him, as been over a year. Anyways, we are having a bbq for them and friends we have met in Oz since arriving and i need meat for about 40..sausages, burgers, chicken...any one got any recommendations of a decent butcher, price and quality that i could get this from. Thanking all you knowledgeable people in advance. Sarah
  11. Our first winter here and yep its colder than what you imagine its going to be...which during the day i dont mind, the right clothes and its sooo much warmer than a UK winters day, BUT the part i cant stand is the house and how cold it is!! You get up in the morning and automatically think what another cold day it is,but 9 times out of 10 when you step outside its far warmer than it was in the house!!I hate coming home from work at 6pm and walking into a freezing house, and out of everything in the UK that I miss...central heating and radiators are both by far at the top of my list(after family and friends of course!!)
  12. Me and a couple of lads(22,22, and 19 years old) are going to glenelg tonight for drinks, i know its short notice but let me know if your up for a few drinks? Tom
  13. Hi Brucesbabe, where abouts from Bedfordshire are you, we are from Bedford, came over 11 months ago tomorrow, with 3 sons, 16,18 and 21...18yr old returned to UK after 10 weeks and 21yr old struggling..def easier when kids are young. our eldest has made a good group of friends, all pommies, tho in last 2 weeks half of them have returned to UK so the group has shrunk!! if your 20 yr old wants to go out let me know and will see if we can get them together!! hope your not too jet-lagged and managing to cope with the crazy amount you seem to have to do when you first arrive!! As for days out Cuddly Creek is def a winner whatever the age.x\

  16. I sent my niece a hand puppet, it was a koala, really fluffy and very cute and she loved it, taught it to say g'day Bruce!! Got it from a shop in Marion on top floor, not sure what it was called, but think it was next to Rebel Sports, plus it was light to post.
