  1. Have SA also removed occupations from their SNOL? I can no longer find Youth Worker on there.
  2. That's really kind of you thanks, you're a star. I'm itching to get started on my degree, can't wait for September. I'm very lucky, one of the tutors is actually my very good friend so I'll know someone at least!
  3. My tutor had told me the placements and work experience opportunities here whilst on my degree will be like hens teeth to get hold of....but if Im successful in gaining a placement and doing the extra year then I will certainly do so. Think I was just worried about doing my degree then not being able to 'practice' in Oz unless I'd had those 2 years in work for the AIMS recognition (seems to be the 2 years after uni what would have stumped me) but I'm glad I've managed to speak with you about it now, at least I know I'll be as qualified as I need to be for employment... As far as I can gather though the portfolio is mainly for those wishing to enter the NHS, but it will be invaluable experience if I can just get a blinking placement!
  4. That's great thankyou @Rich & Chit. Would you know if they have trainee positions in Australia as they do in the UK for new graduates? Just wondering how it works if you study in Oz...as in do they do a similar sort of process whereby you complete a portfolio after your degree or as part of a placement year? Thanks for your help so far, I've been trying to ascertain this visa/employability query for a while now.
  5. Hi @Rich & Chit, is the AIMS qualification assessment required for actually being able to work or is it required for visa skills assessment purposes? We are applying on the strength of my husbands skills so I don't need skills assessment for visa....just want to check if I actually need it for being able to 'practice' as such. Hope that makes sense. What I'm also wondering is....if it's the case that I do need AIMS assessment to be able to work....does that mean I have to do some kind of top up or trainee position in Australia first as we are emigrating as soon as my degree is completed so I will only have my BMS degree?
  6. @jo_marnes I'm really hoping you can give me some insider info on biomedical science in Australia. I'm beginning my BMS degree in UK in september, it's accredited by IBMS but if I want to work in the NHS I have to do a portfolio meaning an extra year as a trainee. If I just do my 3 year BSc in Biomedical Science is that enough for me to be able to gain employment in Australia as a Biomedical Scientist or relevant position? Hopefully you might know the score with stuff like this? Thanks
  7. Fantastic news!! Well done!! What will your job entail then Shazlou ?? We are just putting vetassess docs together at the minute.....can't wait to get over there....its a long time away for us but hubby is hoping to go over and see what the job markets like for youth work once we get our visas....maybe on our validation trip....all going well. I bet you're jumping for joy, nothing better than feeling secure xx
  8. Reckon there's an opportunity there.....do you think we'd get much custom if we opened a diner/ food truck doing Sunday roasts?..... Really fancy doing it.....stuff like mince and dumplings, chicken dinners, you know the stuff....xx
  9. I'd love to do this when we make the move....a little cafe or something doing proper Sunday dinners......x
  10. Just finished filling in the preliminary assessment form for the Migration agent... Hoping I've crossed the T's and dotted the i's correctly. Really feel like we are acting rather than talking about migration now....makes me slightly nervous and excited at the same time... I don't often get gee'd up about stuff until it happens but this is different. Hope the fees aren't too shocking....x
  11. Hi billy jo, just wondering.... I know the roles and tasks etc that employers put on the reference are supposed to match the occupation you are applying under as closely as possible but can you basically just copy them as they're written on the skills assessment website (as long as it's correct of course)? I did wonder if this would be ok or if it would be seen as... Hmmm...well, unfavourable to skills assessment organisation? Would be much easier for us to just give hubby's employer the bullet points as stated on vetassess for them to copy? X
  12. I too can vouch for Tamaras property, we stayed in Boomerang House and it was immaculate with everything you could want or need in a rental. Ideally located too x
  13. Toodolou I've spoken to you on PIO about Adelaide.... Tamara and Shauns place in Christies is where we stayed and what I was raving to you about how lovely Adelaide is....the fab pictures do it justice....its a gorgeous place I'm sure you'll love it. I'm starting to get excited about our visa application going in this year........can't blinking wait..another reccie to validate hopefully xx
  14. When we look back,at our reccie we actually wish we had used public transport for some of the days we went out and about. The hire care was a godsend for going places out of the way...but because we didn't attempt the train we came back thinking that Christies was just a little too far from the CBD for us.....then after a wake up realisation of a month or so back in the Uk we woke up and reminded ourselves that we are nowhere near the CBD in the UK...we have to walk to the metro station, jump on the metro which takes 25 mins or so to the main shopping centre.... And the main overall eureka moment for us was realising that there's NO WAY EVER we would actually want to live in the surroundings of our UK CBD....we love the beach, we love the peace, the quiet, the fact we say hi to people who have time to, who aren't always rushing around. I think if we had utilised the transport in Adelaide we would have had a much wider view of the actual commute to the CBD. It took a while in the car which I didnt like...but it would also take longer in the car where we live in the Uk...that's why most get the metro here. We had more than enough for our everyday living in Noarlunga and thats all anybody with kids needs...beach-free, parks-free, outdoor Bbqs-use is free, promenade - free, shopping centre within walking distance, butcher, fishmonger, fruit and veg shop...all in walking distance. We weighed up heading for Perth after we came back to UK as I had doubts whether Adelaide was just a bit too slow paced, maybe a bit behind the times....but it's everything I wanted in reality..a safe, beautiful place to bring my kids up and a no rush environment.... after watching episodes of WDU on returning and seeing Adelaide we actually felt a little bit homesick....yep. It was like we missed being there...even the kids do. It really is a great place to be.
  15. Thankyou Holliepop, let's hope we can also 'catch the boat before it sails'...these visa requirements change so often, we were originally hoping for SA, then WA,now hoping for SA again....just hope we get somewhere!
  16. Would you mind saying which agent and did they have a problem taking you on with you not having the funds at the time? Just thinking on what wrussell has said above...hoping an agent will be comfortable taking us on to help us as I'd not be confident doing it alone. We wouldn't go until we had a good amount to settle but obviously that's hard to prove to anyone who doesn't know you personally xx Thankyou Holliepop x
  17. Thankyou Holliepop, that does make me feel a little better thanks.... Did you have near the required funds when you applied?.. Did you have an agent? X
  18. Blinkin lovely place!!! We would be happy to live there, quiet, safe, lovely. Stayed at Christies Beach in Tamara and Shauns place when we had a reccie, I'd say all the near surrounding areas are good and can honestly say we had the best time there xxx all the very best x
  19. I understand this is an old thread but one that might help me... @Wrussell , does this mean if you cannot show your agent that you have the required settlement funds at the time of your intended application (or nearabouts) that they would likely not be willing to take you on as a client...maybe due to it being a realistic possibilty that the visa could be refused? We want to apply ASAP but would not have the required funds until we actually plan to make the move in say a couple of years.
  20. Think we managed to spend $3000 on a months reccie last year, there were me and hubby, an 11yr old, 8 year old and a 3 month old. We rented a car and so some of this was used for petrol aswell. I took advise from others and looked into zoo prices, etc etc things your family are planning on doing and totted that up. We didnt go out for evening meals either but did visit Maccy Ds quite a few times with having the kids as it was cheap and quick. We should have taken more really and scrimped towards the end of our reccie, lived on bloody sausages haha but we loved it and in fact that was all part of the fun thinking what we were taking to stick on the barbie when we got to the park Id advise having a backup that you dont touch unless you get stuck just incase, even just a creditcard with a small amount on it or a travel-visa card. Id say that amounts about right though. Enjoy xxxx
  21. Hi all, can anyone tell me why or give me advice to reverse this please!!! On a reccie at the moment and washing the clothes seems to have been ok up to now (either that or Ive only just noticed) but Ive just went to check if the washing on the airer was dry and my bubs brand new whites-babygros, bibs, etc etc are now a very dirty looking beige brown colour!!! The only thing I have done differently is put them on a longer was as they are whites?? Can anyone shed any light or help me reverse this please otherwise Ive basically thrown money down the drain...literally! Cheers
  22. Ahhhh, thought it had to be Ozzified? Seems the Ozzy resume is more about tailoring it to suit the specific job rather than a general CV for all? Jodi Lee & kids x
