  1. Thanks for the advice... He's not in a rush to get over, but the idea is that he has something to work towards. i.e. getting a few years experience under the belt
  2. Hi All, My cousin has just become a qualified plumber and has been working as an apprentice for the past 2 years. What sort out chances / options does he have available to him in terms of immigrating to Australia? Cheers, Robbie
  3. Out of interest, is it in the Brighton High school zone? Also, what is the weekly rental?

    Fire Wood

Bump.. Was just wondering if anyone has any good contacts for firewood?
  5. My daughter turns 4 in July, but only starts school in 2016. We decided to send her to one of the state primary schools closest to us, which are Flagstaff, Craigburn or Aberfoyle Primary. We figure that if we are going to spend money for her education, it would be better spent on a good high school. We also like the idea of her going to school nearby our home as im sure most of the kids she will go to school with will also live nearby.
  6. I would be interested... you got any further details?
  7. Dont forgot stamp duty, which is close to $20,000 for a house valued at $400,000 (median priced house in Adelaide)
  8. I know Drakes Foodland is selling for about $8 per kg.. current special running. Rite Price Groceries (Clovelly PArk) also sell bulk chicken breasts for about $7 per kg.
  9. I think this article is more of a “guideline” and works on averages and generalizations.. For example.. You might find generally.. Families like to own their own homes (offers stability, allows for modifications around the house, easier to have pets etc).. The average size family (with kids) has 2-3 children, therefore the would need a home with 3-4 bedrooms.. The average size family home would need to be on a certain land size (you cant have a 3-4 bedroom home on a 200sqm block of land).. Then would come the financial side of things, where… The average family would be able to afford a certain mortgage amount. Remembering that having kids reduces the amount you can borrow as well as your disposable income (we all know that though).. Based on what the average family can afford to buy AND what the average family would be looking to buy (3-4 bedroom home), you can then narrow suburbs down a bit.. Once you have suburbs in mind, you look at things like.. number of schools in the area, demographics, parks and facilities, shopping centres, closeness to beach, closeness to parents employment (generally being the city) etc.. It was these sorts of parameters (as well as the financial items i mentioned), which attracted me to the Aberfoyle Park/Happy Valley/ Flagstaff Hill suburbs. So when you look at the list of Adelaide suburbs mentioned, you can see why they would appeal to the average family. Of course, its not a “one size fits all”, but more of a generalisation based on averages
  10. Nice to see suburbs that so many of us live in that are rated so highly in Australia http://www.news.com.au/finance/real-estate/aussie-home-loans-names-adelaides-most-familyfriendly-suburb/story-fndba8zb-1226847545559 ADELAIDE SUBURBS IN TOP 100 FOR FAMILY LIVING: 6 – Aberfoyle Park 9 – Belair 15 – Banksia Park 17 – Flagstaff Hill 20 – Highbury 33 – McLaren Vale 39 – Pooraka 44 – Happy Valley 48 – Aldgate 65 – Modbury North 95 – Hallett Cove 98 – Morphett Vale
  11. I recently used a mechanic in the Pasadena / Panorama area... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Send me a PM if you would like his details.
  12. Hi guys, I was just wondering if there are any soccer clubs in Aberfoyle Park or surrounds? Cheers, Robbie
  13. So far we have planned the below.. 1: Blessed Cheese - Get some cheese and freshly baked bread in the area 2: Fox Creek - picnic / brunch / share a bottle of wine 3: Cellar Doors (Gemtree, Goodiespon Brewery, Penny Hill) 4: Late lunch BBQ at Maximus OR Wirra Wirra 5: Cellar doors (Samuels Gorge,Chapel Hill) Any preferences for a lunch time BBQ? Maximus OR Wirra Wirra? Should make for a good day out:)
  14. After all the great suggestions we have decided to "make a day of it" and visit a number of wineries.. instead of doing the one big expensive visit to D'Arenberg... the money can used to buy plenty of wine at other wineries We will take the kids along, so will try visit a few wineries that allow you to bring your own food for a picnic / bbq
  15. soo_the_panda ... so by the sounds of it.. a good choice for an "all in one winery" stop, d'Arenberg probs ticks most the boxes?
  16. Well.. the reason for choosing one winery (at this stage) is due to the fact that we getting a babysitter for 2-3 hours, so we dont have the luxury of spending the whole day going to various wineries. I guess we could take the kids (1 and 3) with and make a day of it at various wineries..
  17. Mmmm decision decisions... How about Woodstock? We are thinking of wine tasting / lunch at Woodstock or d'Arenberg (if we can get a booking). For a second visit (with the kids) We might are take a picnic, get a cheese platter and a bottle of wine at Fox Creek.
  18. Thanks for the advice! Darenberg seems quite pricey (atleast $65 per person excluding drinks)... is it really worth it? Fox Creek might be a cheaper option PLUS a just a good experience for a visitor? I'm open to suggestions
  19. Hi guys, I have my Mum and brother coming for a visit in the coming weeks and we looking at having a lunch / wine tasting in McLaren Vale. A colleague of mine recommended Darenberg for lunch / wine tasting. Would that be a good choice to show visitors or are there any other great wineries you guys could recommend? Cheers, Robbie
  20. there dont appear to be any other wireless broadband options available.. nuskope dont currently provide service for flagstaff hill. are you able to suggest any other options available?
  21. thanks guys! I called adam internet and their wimax offering is equivalent to ADSL 2. We previously only had ADSL 1, so i think the wimax will be great. considering you dont need a telephone line, its actually very well priced.. probs a bit cheaper actually. with adam wimix, they do need to install a antennae / dish on your roof so the start up costs are $150.
  22. Hi guys, We are currently living Flagstaff Hill are unable to get ADSL with iiNet due being too far for the exchange. Apparently we are 7kms from the exchange, which is too far. Before we look at the wireless / mobile broadband option, we are going to try Telstra to see if we can get broadband with them. According to iiNet we will have the same problems trying to get ADSL i.e. being too far from the exchange. If we did decide to go with mobile / wireless broadband, are there any services providers you guys could recommend? Is the Skype quality still good with mobile / wireless broadband? Can you have a home network work multiple devices with mobile / wireless broadband? Look forward to hearing from you guys. Cheers, Robbie
  23. Thanks NicF.. Took my daughter to the Flinders Uni tiny tots and she really enjoyed herself
  24. Hi All, We live in Flagstaff Hill and we looking at getting my daughter (3.5 years old) involved with Little Athletics (Tiny Tots). From what I can see, the closest Tiny Tots group is at Flinders University on a Friday evening (6-7pm). Has anyone had kids that have been to the Flinders Little Athletics Group (or any other group)? Cheers, Robbie
