  1. If you do it yourself there's a lot of filling in what seems like the same form multiple times. It's not overly complicated doing it yourself especially once you've done the IELTS, have your skilled assessment in place and have enough points. I did it for a 489 visa for myself and my partner and was amazed how smoothly it all went. When doing the reference for the skilled assessment there is an example on the website where all of the skilled occupations are listed or else on the site of the governing body for the assessment. You can also look up the skill in detail and you'll get a list if points of what a person with that skill should be able to do. Put the 2 together, saying in the reference you've done what the want you to be able to do and you should be ok.
  2. Hi Shelle, I'm also here from Ireland but on a 489 visa and was initially on a working holiday visa. Being irish, unless our visa is permanent, we are not actually covered by Medicare. Ireland only has a reciprocal health care agreement where you only get emergency a&e cover. That being said, I know some people who only on a WHV have managed to get cover and a Medicare card by applying by post and perhaps not being checked properly. I've managed thus far without cove except for the initial travel insurance. 2 years backpacker worldwide cover which covered me for a GP visit. At least this way you don't have to pay a Medicare levy on your tax as were not eligible for Medicare
  3. If your just happy with a bit to hold you over for now try pinnacle people, they are a hospitality agency based on grenfell street and always looking for people. I worked for them here and in Qld. Shifts are a bit hit and miss especially at first but it's decent money. It's mainly waiting/function work and if you get a RSA then Bar work too. All you really need, is to be able to do is hold 2/3 plates of food and they'll ask to to fill in a questionnaire about service. It's all pretty straightforward. They ask for experience but just make some up from back home if you don't have any. I had loads but made it up for my partner and we both got a fair bit of work while we were struggling to get decent regular work. Hope it helps!

I went to jetty rd dental clinic, 106 jetty rd glenelg recently. Both myself and my partner saw Emma Burgess, she's English and very good!
  5. Good choice, I play down at Seaford but live up in glenelg. If you want any contacts for the amateurs PM me and I can give you the coach or club secretary's numbers. Either that or just then up any Wednesday or Friday for 7pm. They have youth teams too but not sure about the starting ages
  6. Hey, have you any interest in playing football (soccer as the Aussies call it). There's a fair few teams around the Seaford area and some with a good mix of poms and Aussies. Seaford rangers probably the closest or a new team set up in aldinga this year. Also one in noarlunga and a little further north. Great way of meeting people and most are just starting training this week and very family friendly too. All the teams are a decent enough standard for the a teams but the b's is more just people having a bit of fun and socialising
  7. It's worth waiting a bit and just keep looking and checking comparison sites. Also check comparison sites and whatever the cheapest is then go direct to the airlines site to see if they do better. I booked flights for my partner and myself this week to Dublin for April for $1500 each return. Only 1 2hr stop in Dubai. Flying with emirates but booked through qantas as they were doing a sale on the dats. Emirates were quoting around $1900 each
  8. Hi, yes I know you don't immediately qualify for residency after 2 years and there are other conditions you have to fulfill such as the work requirement. I assume the OP has looked into all of this and wasn't offering advise just giving my congratulations. You don't however require full time employment to fulfill the work requirement. I am currently on a 489 visa and you either need full time work or multiple part time jobs adding up to 35 hours a week for a total period of 12 months over the duration of the 4 year visa. It does not have to be consecutive or with the one employer
  9. Hi Tony, I'd be interested in joining up for a game too. I used to play a bit back home but been a few years since I've played regularly. I swore when I came here 2 years ago I'd play more but the clubs are just gathering dust. I'm going to try and get out to the range over the next few weeks and try get some lessons. Gonna have a look at the Facebook page and maybe try meet up with you all for a game in a couple of weeks if yous have something on. Peter
  10. Yep thanks, maybe next time huggesy. Ye head down john, we'll be there from 2!
  11. Yep I have it. I sent you mine yesterday too!
  12. Hey guys. Fancy meeting up in the Dublin around 2 tomorrow?
  13. 2 years and you can qualify for residency and do what you like. All the best with all your planning and as I said I'm sure you'll love it here!
  14. Congratulations! Hopefully everything works out for you when you get here and it was worth all the work. I'm sure you'll love it here even though if I remember correctly you originally wanted WA.
  15. Hey, sorry was trying to figure out when were around this weeks cause were away all day Saturday and wasn't too sure on Sunday. We should be alright to meet for a drink Sunday afternoon though!
  16. Hey dan and Stephanie, myself and my partner live in Glenelg. Were both from Ireland, I'm 26 and she's 25. We'd be happy to arrange a meet up and I'm sure she'd be more than keen for a girlie chat! We've been here just over 2 years but on a WHV originally so finally getting settled here. If you'd like we can arrange a time to meet up or ill PM you my number
  17. Sorry, it was the amateurs I was referring to. Just thought that was the one they were enquiring about. Are the Feds and amateurs affiliated?
  18. Well today was 34 degrees. Could be up in the 30s by November and I'm sure a couple of weeks around Christmas will hit 40. Nice weather for a beer on the beach but not so great to work in. The season here starts around the end of march/early April do it's cooled down a bit by then so you'd have plenty of time for pre season and everything. Im im from Dublin aswell mate and my girlfriend is from Leitrim. Modbury jets first team play Saturday div 2 so they would be a decent standard as I'm sure their reserves would be aswell. They have 2 lower div teams so I'm sure there'd be enough space to get a game and jump between teams
  19. Ye mate be happy to meet up when you get here. Where abouts in Ireland is your girlfriend from? She'll fit right in over here, every second person you set seems to be irish!
  20. Hi, I've recently applied for and had a 489 visa approved. From what I gather the process is pretty much the same as the 189. I was in Adelaide at the time of applying and went to a agent and found I pretty much knew all they could tell me as I looked into it quite I bit. My partner and I decided to do it ourselves and everything went smoothly. It still cost $5,500 when you factor in the medicals, skills assessment, IELTS and police clearances and everything. That was even getting the application in just before the costs went up. If you decide to do it yourself you get time to get each part of the application in and the questions at all the stages pretty much repeat themselves. I swear I had to repeat answers 3 times on 3 separate forms. You'll always get help from people on here of your ever stuck. If you don't think you have the time it arnt comfortable doing it yourself then obviously get a agent to do it for you.
  21. Hey, there's loads of amateur teams here pretty much all over Adelaide and the outer suburbs. If you know where you going to be living have a look at saasl.com.au and you can search all the teams by suburb. I live in Glenelg but play for a team in Seaford. Bit of a trek as there's a lot of teams closer but was living down that way last year and good mix of English/Aussies in the team. There's also a few English/Scottish/irish teams around the city. They keep calling it soccer here, if ya say footie to an Aussie they think of the stupid thing where they use their hands Theres a couple of places in the city that show games each week, the casino and the rosemont are probably the best and the rosemont is really popular for watching games. They show I think 4/5 games at a time for the 3pm kick offs and would have Scottish games. Not too sure about rangers though! Guspjmh, they'd be perfect for you living south, or else there's a team in Mclaren vale, noarlunga (although they play a little bit up south road) and also a new team forming in aldinga. Anyway if yas fancy catching up for a beer when your here give me a shout. I'm here with my partner too, both from Ireland, 27 and 26!
  22. Neither did I think you could really but nothing says you can't as far as I can see. I did all the visa application myself so did loads of research into it but that was the first I saw of that. It may hinder getting PR though. I'm a web designer and that just came on the skilled list here when I was applying. Was going to try as a electronic engineer as I have another degree in that but no experience and would have been difficult to prove enough to get the visa so I got lucky. I'm working as a driver/builder on new cars in the port. The best job I could get when on a WHV and been doing it for 6 months so will probably stuck at it long enough to fulfill the criteria and start looking for web design or IT work. A mate of mine just came over and he is a qualified site manager but has no experience so has struggled to get work. He's been working as a labourer on the super way and thinks he may be able to get site manager work through that. If your OH is experienced I'm sure he'd be able to sort something
  23. I lived in Seaford when I first got to SA and still play football there. I'm working 20 odd minutes north of the city at the moment but would like to go back down that way in the future. For the same price were paying to rent in Glenelg for a 1 bed townhouse you'd get a really nice 3 bed house in Seaford. On the conditions on my visa it just says I have to live and work in a regional area in australia and lists all of the regional areas available including WA so I assume the visas allows you to work or live there too even though it's SA state sponsored. I'm not sure how it may affect residency or staying long term but thought it was interesting to see
  24. It all seems to go really smoothly. I thought the process might take a bit longer but the estimate for having a CO assigned was exactly the estimated time on the immi website. If you have all of the stuff you need for it ready then it should be no time. My only was because I was already in Oz on a working holiday and to get my police clearance from Ireland you have to physically apply for a 2/3 weeks processing time or you can apply by post and it's at least double that. I had to get my mother to apply on my behalf and they lost the first application so she had to reapply. Ireland havnt heard of the internet yet for applying for these types of things. Anyway that was the last thing I needed for them after the medicals and other paper work. I've been here for 2 years and am living in Glenelg at the moment (actually on a holiday in the Gold Coast now) so I applied while I was here. I only had a couple of weeks left on my visa and got a bridging visa while I was waiting. Where are you thinking of setting up?
  25. Hey, I've recently got a 489 visa. Approved around a month ago. I took 7/8 weeks from when I applied to have a case officer assigned then I had 4 weeks to upload all my requested info, I had it all up in around 3 weeks and the visa was approved the next day
