  4. Hi guys do you know what kind of assistance if any that we are temporarily entitled to on a PR visa from centrelink when we get to adelaide? I seem to remember someone mentioning about it on another forum? Cheers Joe
  5. Thanks for the tips :-) I shall make sure I pack my woolie jumpers!! I'm actually feeling ok SamandCraig...we have been so busy sorting everything we haven't had time to worry, but I'm preparing myself for it to hit me very shortly!! Nice to hear you have made some friends...that's one of my biggest worries! Add me on Facebook if you like...would be nice to have some advice on arrival and maybe a friendly face. My name is Carrie Breeze (I have big sunglasses on in my profile pic!) I don't think there is many of us xx
  6. I will certainly pack our winter clothes! As we are due to arrive in October, hoping we get a nice summer before the cold hits! I can imagine that the houses are cold....luxuries such as double glazing and central heating are guess are lost in Oz?! How are you finding the translation in general? Have you met many people/made friends? Carrie xx
  7. We like the look of Hallett Cove but also wouldn't mind Seaford Rise. :-) just can't wait to get there now!! Is it cold at the moment then Sam? Carrie xx
  8. Glad to hear you are enjoying Seaford Rise samandcraig...we got an invitation for the 189 in 4 days and submitted visa last week!! With all the excitement and a moment of madness we booked flights for October 15th!! So hopefully all well and good we will be there very soon!!!! Carrie
  9. Can I ask what you mean when you say it's a million times from the dream Keldaz? Just curious! We are arriving in Adelaide on a 189 visa in October!! Getting so close now....
  10. Hi guys so our visa has been submitted for a week (things have moved very fast) and just wanted to see if anyone has any more insight on the job front for myself as a plasterer? Is there much work for my profession around adelaide currently? Carries already got a job with HCA so takes the pressure off quite a bit! Cheers Joe
  11. We have just used money corp to transfer money into our NAB account from the UK, if you set up a poms in Oz account and mention it to them when registering they give you fee-free transfers. Joe
  12. How are you finding Seaford rise samandcraig? Settling in ok? We put our EOI in Saturday morning, hopefully not long now till we arrive!!
  13. Quite right, you have to be actively looking I've mentioned before nothing will ever be given to you! Roll your sleeves up and prepare for a rough couple of months it will be worth it in the end!
  14. If you break a lease in Adelaide are there penalties to pay for doing so?
  15. What do you do for work terry if you don't mind me asking? cheers Joe
  16. Hi guys sorry for the late response! Thanks for the heads up on a few things, I've looked at quite a few Toyota vans for the reliability aspect but I think my main problem is that maybe they are called different models here in the UK so I'm kinda shooting in the dark when looking? Any particular models that seem to tick a lot of people's boxes? The cost aspect for spares on a vw does worry me so I'm guessing il have to wait to hear from someone who has had some experience with repairs to get a better idea, cheers joe
  17. Hi guys, so I'm looking into the possibility of getting a transporter when we arrive, mainly so I can convert it into a camper as we are hoping to get away quite abit on weekends and it will save us money in forking out for accommodation. I've looked on gumtree and the prices seem similar to that what people are asking here in the UK but there doesn't seem to be very many around. Is this because they aren't so popular in Oz or is it down to another reason I.e the cost to get them serviced/repaired and spare parts etc? Like I said at the moment it's only an idea but I want to find out info before I look too much into it. Any suggestions or past experiences will be much appreciated. Thanks Joe
  18. Hi guys, So while we're waiting for carries 3rd ielts test results to come back as most people can probably relate, she missed out on passing on one element by 0.5 yet again, SOOOO FRUSTRATING!!! I have realised you can take a few other tests if your struggling with ielts and sit the Cambridge advanced (CAE) test or the PTE academic test and both are accepted by the department of immigration. After abit of digging they are easier to score on than ielts with a much, much better pass rate. They use your overall band score from what I can see which gives you so much more scope to nail it! I'm waiting to hear back for the price of the Cambridge one so I will let you know in due course what it is but on the website says its significantly cheaper than other tests! The PTE test is £155 and you get results in around 5 days! Hopefully this time we get the results we want from ielts but I wanted to share this post as it seems a lot of people are unaware of the alternatives if your struggling to get the scores you need! Hope this helps! cheers Joe
  19. When I was in Perth I was told to use westBank as it was the more popular bank there with loads of them dotted around, is this the same as Adelaide? Just go with the bank that has the most branches locally? Or are they all there in Adelaide which just means we will choose the one that suits our needs best! Cheers Joe
  20. Hi Andrew, so if we both secured employment pretty much straight away do you think on a permenant res visa we could apply for a mortgage after around 6 months? Sorry to be a pain and ask so many questions! Cheers joe
  21. So you took forth one Gwen? It's so frustrating having to get 8's across the board as I've only got 1 years work experience and I believe you need 3 years experience to claim points on the visa. If I only needed the 7's I could have put forward my first exam results...just losing a little confidence in being able to pass it now and obviously can't apply for visa without it must get revising I guess!!! X
  22. Just been informed that its a 10 week wait for re-mark results & haven't got that much time to wait so looks like I'll be taking it a third time...let's hope it's third time lucky! Thanks for the replies... :-) Carrie x
  23. Hi all Got my second IELTS results scores today (I had to take the academic one first for my nursing registration and anmac) I need to get 8's in all section for the visa application. I got Speaking 8.5, Reading 8.5, Listening 8.5 & Writing 7.5!! So frustrating!!! The thing is I got 8.5 in the academic module writing section. Does anyone know if you can combine tests? Im considering asking for a re-mark? Has anyone had any experience with this? Any advice appreciated! Thanks Carrie
  24. Oh no Richard300....Anmac have had my application for 4 weeks now...they have said there is a 12 weeks processing time but July seems madness!! Have you contacted them? Carrie
  25. Thanks for the responses guys...Like we said its just to give us an idea on arrival of certain surburbs that we currently like the look of, and at the moment HC seems to be ticking lots of boxes!! Happy Days...We just can't wait to get to Adelaide now :-) Carrie x
