Candles ...

    Recommended Posts

I'm so confused, can someone please help me?!

When we had a quote we were told we couldn't take candles, the guys came today and started packing up (gosh, my house is bare / weird ) and told me i can take candles.

I know that you can't take beeswax candles but how do i tell the difference?

This may sound like a stupid post but when we got married we had candles on the tables. They have our name, date and where we got married on so do have sentimental value.

    Thanks guys and girls!

You can bring normal wax candles into OZ my wife packed all of hers but did have two candles destroyed that had seeds and dries flower in them & she was gutted as they were her favourite candles and expensive when she got them. We were told we could take candles buy our shipper but we forgot about the dried flowers & seeds, this was 6 years ago now. I called customs today for you on 1300 363 263 and spoke to a Melisa and she also put me through to a quarantine officer called Paul who both said normal wax candles will have no problems being shippeded into OZ. However if they have any animal or plant product in them they will be confiscated and either quarantined or destroyed. They also said check with your shipping agent which we said you have and the same as us none of them gave you clear advise what to bring or no to bring, and he did confirm normal wax candles we ok.

This is what I was told today by customs, I hope you do not get a customs officer confiscate them on the day your shipment arrives as it depends on the officer inspecting your shipment what he decides, but you will be ok with normal wax candles as we were, hope this helps.

Not candles but we had a wedding photo album made from leaves and twigs (purchased on honeymoon in the Maldives) that we were worried about shipping but didn't want to lose. In the end we packed it in our hand luggage and declared it at customs on arrival in Oz. the customs guy waved it through with barely a glance.

I think I would be inclined to do as Kingpin suggests and pop it/them in your hand luggage.

We brought over a fair few candles. They caused no problem at Customs but a few melted! I think our container or boxes had been left out in the sun - although it was actually winter so I didn't think the sun would have been fierce enough to cause that, something obviously did lol!

It's a good job you are blonde as you act like it lass...........

Containers have to travel around the world through many different weather zones............. some are hot.

There I have said it slowly..........

An acquaintance lost 4 pallets of confectionery from the UK - the container was left at the dock side in Singapore for a week.:swoon:

Yeah, I thought it was common knowledge that the equator is really a quite cold place !!! lol :biglaugh:

We left a bag of ice in our freezer as it was a cold day in the UK when it left, and it was going to be mid winter here in Oz. But, you will never guess what happened to the ice.... lol

Oh no! Poor you! If only you had immersed your ice in kerosene, put it in an airtight container sealed with vaseline and put the freezer in a refrigerated container! Still, we live and learn, hey? Lol

P.S. the coldest point on the equator is some mountain in Ecuador where the average temp is, apparently, 2*C during the day falling to -10*C at night

We had a photo frame set made from leaves that we got in St Lucia. We were the same, didn't want it to cause problems with the container so brought in our suitcase and declared at airport. Ours didn't make it through...

We did the same with a similar wedding album from Mauritius covered in leaves. Shipping company said not a chance so we brought them through in hand luggage with no problems.

Yep, but then our big wooden wall plaque that we had hand carved when we got married there with our names, date etc on it made it through in the container thankfully, they never even looked at it. I would have been well and truly gutted if they'd had issues with that.
