  1. Hi Not crochet specific but I know of one on a Wednesday evening in Old Reynella. Quilting, crochet, kniting, etc etc..
  2. Scouting and Guiding are very popular especially with children that might not necessarily be madly into sports. Beavers are called Joeys here and the uniform is quite different. I am not sure where you are going to be based but some troops are markedly better than others in terms of activities and camps undertaken. The Flagstaff Hill Scout Group (the second we tried) was particularly welcoming and is fantastic for activities and adventures. http://www.flagstaffhill.sa.scouts.com.au The South Australia Guides: http://www.girlguidessa.org.au Hth Sarah
  3. Another vote for The Fall (season 1 and 2) and Luther (Seasons 1,2 and 3). Both are brilliant.

    Cost of Living

I love these threads! Everybody's answers vary so wildly. We are also a family of 5. Over summer our bills were Water $600, Electric $850 and Gas $250. We have a pool and my three boys and their friends would swim 24 hrs a day if they could so pool filters were on a LOT. Air con - not so much. Water was high, again, because of the pool and a nice new lawn my husband likes to water!! Having said that I find it difficult to spend more than $150 a week on grocery shopping so it evens out. Hth
  5. I thought the all night camp was at Morphetteville Racecourse rather than Morphette Vale????
  6. For anyone that is interested Costco do the large boxes washing powder. Not so much the British brands but certainly the massive packs that last years. The one we got in November is still going strong and we are a family of 5 doing at least one load a day. I like the Biozet Attack in the mint green box the best here. I also found that Costco sell large boxes of Bounce tumble dryer sheets which I like to use as drawer liners and in-between the towels and sheets in the airing cupboard (or stuffed into husbands stinky running shoes). I have a large box of the sheets sitting on my kitchen table and can smell them in every room at the moment. Comfort pure fabric conditioner holds the scent the longest and I like to use it for sheets and for everything else I use white vinegar!
  7. No it doesn't make you racist. More to do with the Doctor not knowing what they were doing from what you have said. Telling people to avoid a practice as the doctors have accents you won't understand, is on the way to being so IMO. Hurtful anyway. Touches a nerve with me as we are a bi-racial family and people say things to me all the time that they would never say to my husband.
  8. But you do sound racist!! We actually followed two of the Drs to the New Aberfoyle Hub Centre when they set up the Practice (they had previously worked at the very busy Fountain Medical Centre in Happy Valley). At the Aberfoyle Hub Practice you can get an appointment easily on the same day and they are open 7 days as someone else mentions. They also have a late night or two for anyone that works. And they Bulk Bill! Perfect. As a side, their English is perfect and we have absolutely no issues understanding them. I am surprised people still say such awful things about not understanding accents but actually, someone else said similar to me the other day without ever having been to the practice. Such a backwards way of thinking. Come on!!!!
  9. Hi I believe Bellevue Heights Primary has provision for this. They have an intensive English language centre for new arrivals. See their website for details. http://www.bellevueps.sa.edu.au/new_arrivals.htm hth Sarah
  10. Hi Beck We had one installed a month or so ago. We also used Knights heating and cooling and they were absolutely fantastic!!! We have been using it since the cold weather started and it feels like installing it has been the best decision we ever made! If you need any info let me know. Sarah
  11. I am originally from Marlow in Bucks but spent the last 20 years living in various parts of London before coming to Adelaide 2 years ago!! Sarah
  12. I have one. It changed my life....!!! I know, I know...very sad but true. Its the Tefal GV9110 which I am pretty sure they don't make any more. We must have had it for over 5 years and its still going strong. Hth Sarah

  14. Hi Sarah Its me Sarah! Hope you are well We have just had one laid for our pool shed. I will text you the number of the guy.
  15. Hi If your windows slide open rather than lift up and down it could be that the windows lift out for cleaning rather than the fly screens. Unlock window, lift the pane up slightly and if it pulls out of the frame easily then lift out for cleaning. Sounds bizarre but most of the windows here in Adelaide are metal framed lift out ones. The window will slot back in in the same way. edit - depending on the size of the window you might need another pair of hands to help!! hth Sarah
  16. Hoping you get some replies as we are looking at them as a possible for some building work we are doing in our kitchen!!!

    Help!! TV Ariel??

Hi We had exactly the same issue! Foxtel but none of the other channels. We had three guys out two of which told us we were in a dip and wouldnt get any normal TV channels. We then got Adrian from Jim's antennas out. He was fantastic and sorted everything by way of new antenna and TV now perfect in two different rooms. Pm me for his number if you like. We are in Flagstaff so he is local. HTH Sarah

  20. Hi guys We won't be able to make Saturday due to soccer and swimming lessons but would be interested in meeting up midweek. Would just be me and my 4 year old. Are you still meeting on Thursdays? Sarah
  21. OMG!!! I think thats the highest I have heard. Must be connected to the pool equipment surely? I have to say I think ours would be much higher if we put the heating on more. Instead I am sitting here with two jumpers and a blanket to keep warm :- (
  22. Wow! A very generous offer indeed!!! Sarah
  23. Ours was (Family of 5) Gas $220 and $520 electric. I am home all day with the youngest so think thats why the electric is shocking. Sarah
