Just fancying a week in Bali. Seems cheap.

We were going up to Darwin but it's soooo expensive with flights and accommodation!

Any suggestions on where to stay? what to see and do???

go say hi to Schappelle, is it as cheap though, hotels might be nice but outside its 3rd world, might end up with bali belly..

If you want to be in the mayhem of loud music, traffic and lots and lots of back packers you should book a hotel in Kutah Beach area. If you want a more discreet (much more expensive) vacation try the Double Six area. You can also try the Mount Gunung Agung area. Other areas to look into are Denpasar and Ubud.

Rafting, feeding the monkeys, visiting the rice paddies, visiting local markets for handicrafts...are what I think would be fun. Also do not forget to visit the many art galleries in Ubud (if not mistaken).

Why don't you stay in two areas? The interior mountain area is very different from the beach resort type areas.

Prollystay at one place this time, bit of a 7 day recce.

Thanks, looks like Thailand.

Sticking to Bali for now, Thailand next year. Really wanting to explore the Far East.

Can you imagine me staying in Phuket with my broad Yorkshire accent???? It will sound so bad every time I say it!! :biglaugh::biglaugh:

WahaaaY! An expert:notworthy:

We don't want the back packer side of things.

Prefer a quieter base from where we can visit the busier parts - but escape!!

LOoking forward to trying something different.

Fiji is coming a close second, we called in there on a cruise a few years ago. Lovely place ,lovely people!!

Thanks for the info Ali!

You are welcome. I'd say stay away from the South of the island as well (Nusa Dua). The hotels are cheaper than Double Six but its close to the airport so you might hear planes come and go.

Go to Cambodia before Thailand, It's still developing and therefore still refreshingly different and it's a beautiful country. We stayed in Siem Reap and visited Angkor Wat and other places nearby. Once you get there it's very cheap to eat, drink and be merry. We stayed here http://www.villasiemreap.com and took the lots of luxury package. It's really great there and interesting mix of old French Colonialism and New Asia.
