claiming medical costs back

    Recommended Posts

Hi my inlaws here for 6weeks & had to see GP today. They where charged for the visit which isn't a problem but I just wondered if they can claim anything back under the reciprocal arrangements we have with the nhs & if so how do we do this? Thank you

Your best bet is to go into a Medicare office with their passports and the receipt for what they paid, and ask in there. They probably need to be issued with a Medicare Card before any refund can be made to them

I have twice had overseas relatives fall ill whilst they were here, in both cases they were hospitalised, as well as numerous drs visits. In both cases we had to take their passports to the medicare office and obtain a temporary medicare card for them. They were then treated as we would be under medicare and as public patients.
