Just been on the Australian Tax Office website to see if we're eligible for the payout from the government and found a calculator on there which will tell you if you are eligible or not.

All you need is your Notice of Assesment which you should have got once you submitted your tax return for 2007-08, which is sent to you from the ATO.

Here is the the link which takes you to the calculator http://calculators.ato.gov.au/scripts/axos/axos.asp?CONTEXT=&KBS=ESB.xr4&go=ok

Hope this helps some of you

Cheers

Louise

The payments are being rolled out over 6 weeks. If you haven't got it and think you are entitled to one then you are sposed to ring the ATO after 16th MAY. They are being done by postcode, it's all in the ATO info .................... http://www.ato.gov.au/corporate/content.asp?doc=/content/00178930.htm&page=5&H5

All cheque and EFT payments will be made using a post code selection process that is randomly generated, ensuring all post codes are evenly distributed to each state and territory each night (using the Australia Post predetermined percentage spread). For this reason and because of security concerns, we are not planning to publish a distribution schedule.

Of course if you used the low income tax offset in your tax return last year you may not be entitled to anything at all!

Hi,

We have only been here 6 months, so are we eligible for it? My husband has been working since October 08 here.

Thanks in advance

You need to have done a 07-08 tax return for this particular hand-out, so it's a no I'm afraid. You may well be eligible for one/some of the other ones (notably the FTB handouts from earlier last month and december. As you have no tax/earnings history, it is likely that you'll only get this as part of your "FTB reconciliation" after you've submitted your return for this year after June 30th if you've not already received them :jiggy:.
