  3. Hi All, I just happened to look at the date and suddenly realised we have been here for a whole year. wow that went fast! I think everyone knows we have had our ups and our downs, homesickness, our struggles with the housing market in England, problems finding a well paid job ect. Well none of the above with the exception of homesickness has got any better. But here is what,s got better, All my friends and family have now downloaded Skype. I have new friends to share my week. and lots of interviews for jobs. The warmer weather makes everything better My children are settled and have now made good friends, my son is sleeping out tonight yipee. and ive suddenly realised that if we go home without our citizenship, we probably never return, so we are dangling on a thread to stay here at least one more year. I also now think of Adelaide as our home and its well worth the fight to stay. I hope I haven't put anyone off, thats not my intention, but if we can do it anyone can, Good luck!!!! Laura xxxx
  4. Hi Rory, Sorry I hope I don't dissapoint you too much, we have only seen 3 small huntsman since we arrived which is 1 year ago. But the sleepy lizzard above was having a tour of our garden. My Children love them, they are quite harmless. Laura xx
  5. Hi There, My two girls both have small speech probs, Phoebe is 4 and at 2 week in kindy, the teacher suggested that we could perhaps address it, the next week she saw a speech therapist. This was through the school and completly free, she id the problem and gave me some homework to work on with her. The school also suggested for Jazmine aged 3 to see a speech therapist, we phoned up a therapist in Port Adelaide and was seen 1 month later and again lots more advise on how to solve the prob. Ive found anything to do with children, they are soooo quick to resolve problems to save big troubles later. Hope this helps Laura xx
  6. It has to be a Bat, from Halloween, Hurry up with the answer sarah, it's driving me nuts now. Laura xxxx
  7. Don't worry about theme parks, you'll not afford for your kids to go there when you move anyway.lol only joking. This is what we do most weekends. We cycle to the shops buy some sausages, then go to the lakes and have a picnic whilst the kids play in the park and feed the ducks. We also go to st kilda where there is a good park for older kids as well as younger kids. We became a member of cleland, so we go here regularly. we also head to Semaphore jetty, we fish and go crabbing, good fun. the kids play in the parks and skateboard park whilst we are at semaphore. They also have a big waterslide and ferris wheel, bouncy castle ect. Go to Guameracha wildlife park, to feed roos, this is free there is also Monata zoo, we havent done that yet. Adelaide Zoo is lovely and the botanic gardens if its too hot we stay home and run down to the beach have a quick game of auzzierules footy, spin a frizby, play catch ect Also there are loads of indoor outdoor swimming pools, when you visit people take a picnic or barbie stuff as you make it a day out. Yes they have bbq's everywhere. Good luck with your decision Laura xx

  12. HI, Does anyone know if people go trick or treating here? I myself don't like it as it seems like kids begging, but my friend in the UK is Irish and its always been a big deal every year the kids go trick or treating and then have a party, so my kids are used to doing it. Whats the deal here as I don't want to get the kids all excited to get the door shut in their faces. Laura xxx
  13. I would change the way they conduct interviews and the way pay stuctures are never discussed. My OH went to Bunnings for a job to work nights doing night fill (bunnings are equivilent to B+Q) First interview was a phone interview second interview was a group interview where he had to do a presentation (yes really) Third interview He is handsom, intelligent, fit, friendly, the list goes on. Found out this morning, he was'nt successful It drives me around the bend. Going down the snakes again, We need a few ladders lol Laura xxxx
  14. CONGRATULATIONS! You must be so pleased, now you can come here and relax. Laura xxxx
  15. Hi Matt, Im originally from Bristol, I lived in a village called Backwell which is lovely, but my youth was in Stockwood which is next to Keynsham. My Neice and her Husband also live in Keynsham. Anyway, we are here now in Adelaide and we live in a suburb called West Lakes Shore which is beautifully designed with lakes all around they have the usual things in them like turtles, black swans, ducks and pelicans. Its a five minute walk to cinema, west lakes shopping centre and the library which if you need internet access for rentals ect you'll need. its also 30 mins drive to the city which most people don't drive to, they drive to their nearest train station as parking in the city is expensive. Good luck on your venture. Laura xxx

He starts year 7 in Jan 09 and they go up to high school year 8. Have you looked at West Lakes Shore Primary its one of the better state schools a good option if like us have to sell house. 25. Just to keep it real, That isn't many incidents okay they are shocking, this isn't heaven, people do do wrong things. Look at the results for Bristol or Newcastle or London, the stats are not even compairable. I feel a lot safer here than i have ever done in the Uk. Ive not felt comfortable in the city since ive been 25 years old and this is in the daytime. I do feel relaxed in Adelaide city in the daytime. Laura xx
