I still have baby brain so am pondering how the passport thing works. We now have both UK and Aussie passports but our little one only has an Aussie one. I've checked that she doesn't need a visa when we go visit family back in the UK but what happens at UK immigration? After 21 hours of flights, we'll be wanting to get through as quick as we can! cheers!

Brilliant - never thought of there! Thanks Jill :-)

Anyone know where to get baby passport photos taken in the Southern suburbs. Had no luck at the colonnades as only Aus Post do them there & not for babies. Last time we used a photo shop which has now closed down :-(

My son has been there since the 4-year old program (he's now 8) and loves it. For us it was important for him to go a local school so he has plenty of friends nearby to play with - on the same street in fact! We had a few to choose from but PNPS stood out for a mile for us. Having said that, it still comes down to your gut feeling when you visit a school - and different schools suit different kids and families.

Hi guys, just wondering if there's a cheaper option than PayPal to transfer $1500 from relatives back in the UK to our Aussie bank account? PayPal want to charge them 3.4% and then us a fee to put in in our account, and western union charge 30 pounds but have a low exchange rate. cheers for your help!

Wanted: Maxi Cosi baby capsule / car seat before Feb!
Aquacatrina replied to Aquacatrina's topic in For Sale / Wanted
Thanks for that - I'm actually after the capsule primarily for using on the buggy than necessarily in the car as it would mean I could use the same buggy throughout - it doesn't quite lie flat enough for a newborn. There is a carrycot attachment but again - not available easily in Australia! Having gone through various buggies last time round, my micralite won hands down (and at $175 for a new one here in Aus is worth a few workarounds in the first few months)! -
Hi I' m wondering if anyone's likely to be selling a Maxi Cosi Cabrio , Cabriofix or Bubble baby car seat between now and the start of Feb (when my baby's due). Despite being very popular car seats in the Uk, they're not sold over here, which is a pity as they attach to my micralite buggy, making it suitable for a newborn. I'm keeping an eye on Gumtree, EBay and Adelaide Baby Bargains but have only spotted them interstate so far. cheers Cat

We're renting and looking to buy in Christies Beach too - love it here. So close that you can easily walk to the fab sandy beach and all the shops, supermarkets, cafes and every kind of medical facility on Beach Rd. Also v handy for everything at Noarlunga Centre - Colonnades, cinema, bowling, leisure centre, ice rink and swimming pool. Christies North kindy and Christies Beach Childrens Centre are great too.

I'm stuck in a strange vicious circle! I've just been offered a great job (hooray) so want to put my son into a great private childcare centre which will drop him off and pick him up by minibus at his existing kindy. Went to see them today, booked his place but was told he absolutely CANNOT be registered there until we get a Child Reference Number for him from Centrelink. I explained that we're on a subclass 475 temporary visa so will be paying all the fees ourselves, not claiming anything in benefits. No worries - or so i thought, childcare centre manager assured me that Centrelink would give me a ref number anyway, just to make my son 'exist'! So now after an hour on the phone to Centrelink, speaking to just about everyone there, they've confirmed that since we're NOT permanent residents, we obviously don't get benefits (which yes I knew), but to them that means we don't exist so do NOT get any reference numbers either. No exceptions to the rule, blah blah blah. Could they confirm this by email - no! Could they tell which page of their website confirms this - no! I can't get back in touch with the childcare centre manager until Monday morning so just wondered in the meantime if anyone else has been in the same situation?

Part time admin job wanted - Southern suburbs
Aquacatrina posted a topic in Jobs, Careers, Vacancies
There's only so many times I can clean the house, wander round the Colonnades and even sit on a beach, so I'm looking for something more stimulating to do with my time while my son's at kindy/school. I've got loads of computer experience (Office, Visio, SPSS, SAP etc) and have just trained on MYOB. Before emigrating, I worked the last 14 years in data management and organisational development in local government and am now just looking for something equivalent to a day or two a week. I'm already volunteering at the local kindy, so am happy filing, laminating, taking phone calls and photocopying too. If you hear of anything round the Onkaparinga/Marion areas, please let me know - or maybe your business office just needs a little bit of organising while you're busy doing the real work? Thanks Catrin -
Fab news! Petite trousers at last.

I'm originally from Anglesey, then Manchester and in Christies Beach - have also met quite a few northern taffs now living in the southern suburbs of Adelaide! Catrin -
Don't forget ebay too - it's not as widely used over here so you can get major bargains! Glad you found a house Emma, are you staying nearby?

glad you made it ok, I remember our jet lagged walk back from the Colonnades on our first day!
