  1. You should have a read of the "L's Angels'" forum on the ridingSA website. There's some great advice and contacts there from riders who regularly take out groups of learners for city and country rides. http://ridingsa.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1
  2. The Madison, written instructions http://www.bushfirepress.com/freebies/nutbush.html The video
  3. Yep that's me on the toy run a couple of years ago. I ride a Yamaha XVS1100 Custom. The Adelaide roads are not as much fun as the Adelaide Hills roads :jiggy:which are fantastic.
  4. Dalkeith Caravan Park is fairly close to Elizabeth, on Main North Road. Gawler By-Pass Motel is only a few km further down the road but has had some bad reviews. Elizabeth is only about 30 minutes from the Barossa Valley, so check if any of the places there are available. Several Hotels/Motels are on Main North Road. check http://www.truelocal.com.au/find/accommodation/sa/adelaide-north/ for a selection of names, addresses and phone numbers.
  5. My OH and I spent a lovely weekend at Clare, a couple of years ago, at http://www.wutheringheights.com.au/ We picked it because it was dog friendly. Our staffy loved it too.
  6. My bro-in-law works up at the mines. As already mentioned it's 12 hour shifts (gets paid for 8), permanent nightshift, 14 days on, fly in/fly out, live on site, nothing to do but eat, sleep, watch dvds and work. As his boss says whenever someone complains about anything "The plane flies out first thing in the morning and you can be on it." Bro-in-law is a single, country guy who really hates big cities and spend his time off work camping at the beach fishing or getting drunk. Sometimes I'm jealous as . . . . but mostly I'm just glad it's him and not me.
  7. In 38 years living in oz I've seen snakes 3 times in my garden. The first one was when I was 14, and ripping out a bush for my mum. It took off straight between my feet, I think it was more scared than I was. The second one took off as well as soon as it knew I was there. The third couldn't run as my cat had it by the back of the neck. The cat was bitten but survived due to a $600+ vet bill. Lots more kids are bitten by the family dog than by snakes. If you have a dog they tend to keep the snakes away from the areas where the humans are, but sometimes take on the biting duties.
  8. Some white goods here are expensive but some people do insist on buying their stuff at the most expensive shops. As others have said it's all about 'lifestyle'. Just ask yourself 'How much of a shopping snob am I?' Then check out the catalogues at http://www.lasoo.com.au/ where you can compare the various stores and their prices. Harvey Norman and The Good Guys sell white goods, as do places like Target.
  9. Adelaide to the Alice is a 16+ hour drive and with 2 little ones in the car it could be something pretty close to HELL!!!:arghh::arghh: Might I suggest a nice leisurely tour of the Yorke and Eyre Peninsulas. Shortish drives interspersed with stops at small towns with beautiful beaches, and small cities with beautiful beaches.
  10. You shouldn't worry about mice . . . the snakes'll take care of them.
  11. I lived in Whyalla for 8 years and loved it. It has several good pubs and a reasonable taxi service. Nowhere in Whyalla is more than a 5 minute drive away. An hour down the coast is one of the best fishing beaches in SA, just ask any of the Cowell natives where the 'knob' beach is. The Flinders Ranges and Quorn are within easy reach as is Tumby Bay, Port Lincoln, Elliston and Streaky Bay.
  12. You need to check the decs Employment Opportunities website where all public school jobs are advertised. However they have to be sent in to decs once the school decides what staff they need for the year. Not all schools are good at getting this done before the start of the new school year (in 2 weeks) because it largely depends on student numbers and budget considerations.
  13. The place you're looking for is TAFE (Technical and Further Education). Here's the link to their site http://www.tafesa.edu.au , which appears to be unavailable at the moment, but should be up again later.
  14. I lived in Knighton and Oadby when I was in Leicester, but that was 30 years ago. It's changed a lot since then (Googlemaps streetview).

  15. If you've been doing a business course in the UK get as much documentation as possible about the study you've already completed. That way you should get credit for it over here. Then enrol in a course over here. You'll have a whole course full of potential new friends with shared interests. edit: have you checked the TAFE website at http://www.tafesa.edu.au/home.aspx yet?
  16. Completely disagree. Most of them don't have the morals of an alley cat.
  17. Last year I stayed at Best Western Broadbeach Travel Inn Apartments - Broadbeach Apartments Gold Coast which is just across the road from one of the largest shopping malls on the coast, which has a bus terminus where buses for all the theme parks stop. It was no more than a 1/2hour to any of them. Best part about the travel inn is it's next door to an indian take-away restaurant which has a pub on the other side.
  18. If you're still looking for broadband info the best place to go is Whirlpool Broadband News it has the best forums and databases about Australian Broadband.
  19. Australia uses the PAL system for analogue tv transmission. You may have to get a digital tv 'box' (they're about $100) to get the digital transmissions though. See PAL datasheet and Digital television switchover | Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy
  20. If the clairvoyant was any good they'd be getting in touch with you. Skeptico
  21. Where I live the only free-to-air tv stations that we receive are the ABC and SBS, so Foxtel Satellite is pretty much required. I love the History, Discovery and Sci-Fi Channels while my Minister-of-Finance loves the Lifestyle, UKTV and Animal channels.

    Road rage

When a car pulls out in front of a motorcycle and there's an accident the motorcyclist usually dies, or is very severely injured. When a car sideswipes a motorcycle the motorcyclist will be very lucky if they only lose a leg from the knee down. ". . . hubby was unaware he'd made a mistake." Doesn't mean that he hadn't come close to crippling, or killing, the motorcyclist and his pillion passenger. People don't get angry for no reason. Hubby did something very dangerous that scared the hell out of the motorcyclist and caused him to react the way he did.
  23. Train takes about an hour, car takes about 40-45 mins into the city. That's at peak times for the car. Yes, the trains here are quite slow.
  24. There's a Baby Target store at Golden Grove Village Shopping Centre.
