  1. You should advertise Sidekick Performance at the ridingsa forums. Get the local motorcyclists interested. Some of those zorsts look great.
  2. That's because the bloke in the trailer is usually drinking the weekends supply of beers.
  3. My OH and I are off to Clare to see Tom as well. We're close enough to drive back with no worries though. Don't think I'll take the bike . . .
  4. You see them so often you just don't notice them after a while.

    Stuff to pack

My OH loves her library card and will drive out to any of the Port Adelaide/Enfield Libraries if they have a specific book available, or to make use of their free internet and coffee, even though we live in the Playford area. Personally though, I prefer to read a brand new book that hasn't been worn out by someone else's eyes. So I'll usually pop by Borders in the city, or Dymocks. However I have been using the online bookshop Booktopia more and more lately as they can get books from overseas that haven't been released here yet and have been pretty quick and reliable.
  6. For SA specific motorcycling forums, and a really friendly bunch of folks, who like to ride check out Ridingsa The Motorcycle Riders Association of SA website is also full of useful info, especially about the annual TOY RUN, which is always heaps of fun. :jiggy:The SAMRATS organise regular saturday and sunday rides as well.
  7. I work at the Education Department and we did inquire as to why that schools result were down at year 9. It seems that at the Heights the 'brighter' IGNITE kids skip year 9. They go straight from year 8 to year 10 so they didn't sit the test in year 9. That dropped the schools average.

    Ruby Murry!

No need to miss out on your weekly curry night. adelaide.citysearch.com.Indian Restaurants
  9. Divers here always swim with a mate, and carry a knife. That way if they see a shark, they can stab their mate and get away while the shark is busy with their mate
  10. You're more likely to be killed by lightning than by a shark in Australia. There's only been 21 fatal attacks in SA, ever. Quote from: http:ccsa.asn.au
  11. Why not try the yorke-peninsula. It's really nice over there.
  12. You could also try Marden Senior College. It is an adult re-entry secondary college which has some part-time and evening courses.
  13. From the DECS website: "Starting School The enrolment process is completed by a school, so to inquire about enrolling your child, please contact the school that you wish to enrol at directly. Children are not required to attend school until they are six years old, but may be enrolled at a government primary school from the age of five. Schools may accept children immediately following their fifth birthday but it is not compulsory for them to do so. However as a minimum, schools shall enrol children aged five at the beginning of each school term. Most children usually attend four terms of preschool and then begin school in Reception when they are five. Reception is the name given to the first year of schooling." The school year is pretty much the same as the calendar year, students start a new year at the end of January, then have 4 terms, with a 2 week break at the end of each term except for the summer/end of year break which is about 6 weeks. Most kids go back to school next week (Wednesday 29th January) for the start of the school year. To find a school in a particular area, refer to http://www.decs.sa.gov.au/decs_search/pages/locs
  14. Double check with tafe.sa They should be able to tell you whether or not your daughter can get credit for work done in the UK so she may not have to do the full course. Good luck.
  15. Australia's Deadliest Animals According to the snake guy, who came out the last time we saw a brown snake in our garden, there's one brown snake for every 4 houses in Adelaide. Never try to sneak through the bush, or your garden. Take nice big, HEAVY steps. It gives the snakes a chance to get out your way.
  16. Some of the best beaches in SA are on Eyre Peninsula. Miles of sand and not a person, or building, in sight.
  17. Baby Dave at The Tattoo Gallery does fantastic work, and so does Tribal Mike.
  18. Booktopia is an excellent online book supplier, with a pretty fast delivery service, which has the book available for $23:99 why-you-are-australian-a-letter-to-my-children

    Sky / Foxtel

Some parts of Adelaide get foxtel on cable, others get it via satellite. I first got it by satellite years ago, then got rid of it as the choices were pretty poor. They only took the set top box and left the dish 'just in case'. One year ago I heard they'd increased the channel selection so when they had a 'free month + free installation' offer I took them up on it.
  20. If you can teach maths up to Year 12 then you shouldn't have a problem. While there doesn't appear to be many vacancies in public schools at the moment that is misleading. I teach at a school where there are 4 full time senior maths vacancies and NONE of them have been advertised yet. Principals prefer to hold off informing DECS of vacancies until the start of the school year because then it becomes a priority placement issue where the principal can appoint someone of their choice, instead of having to go through the normal time-consuming placement process.
  21. One window slightly open, in the room with the a/c, should do it. Otherwise the house will just get too humid and uncomfortable.
  22. I went for a ride around Yorke Peninsula last week. All the coastal towns are lovely places and it really depends on what you're looking for. If you want peace, quiet and solitude then go for one of the smaller towns. If you want some 3-4 star eateries then the bigger towns are what you're after.
  23. Top tip for those without an air con is 'get one!' Reverse cycle refrigerated is best because evaporative systems tend to make the house too muggy. If that's not an option then get a portable a/c, take it with you when you leave the rental accommodation. Here's a good option that's fairly cheap, just shove it in a window, Good Guys Window A/C
  24. The Advertiser online It's Adelaide's own Murdoch rag, well known for biased gutter journalism, regular media frenzies, trial by media and getting rid of good cartoons.
  25. Be very careful with buying fishing gear if it's just for a "one off". It can become an obsession. The first fish I ever caught cost me about $200.
