What's On? Gigs and events Adelaide.

Recommended Posts

Perhaps too someone could start a FB page group Live Music Adelaide. My OH runs a group in our town in the UK for our local gigs and he now has ALOT of members.Bands now post their own gigs on his page, and my OH takes pics of posters around town of bands coming, and then posts the posters on his group page. Its been a huge success for keeping folks up to date on whats on.

Nice to see so many gigs in Adelaide, but if someone could start a page for local pubs, which usually have free gigs, that would be great!

That's a good idea.

There is a gigs guide in the Advertiser newspaper but not everyone subscribes to the online edition or gets a paper. There's also lots of smaller venues and gigs that don't appear anywhere. My local pub has live music on Fridays and Sat but you don't see it advertised.

[TD]FOR YOUR LOVE

Saturday 05 December

During the 1960s, the British made their mark on the worlds popular music market by taking on the United States with their new brand of chart topping rock and roll. While The Beatles and the Rolling Stones made an indelible mark on the new musical landscape, there were many other Brit Rock bands with equally brilliant pop music.

The show also uses SA-based multi-media 'StageDirector' technology to coordinate a visual stunning show. So fans get to see the original artists who wrote or performed the songs to make them hits back in the 60s as the songs are performed live on stage.

FOR YOUR LOVE: THE 60s BRITISH ROCK INVASION returns this Christmas, by popular demand, and will take

the crowd on an unforgettable multi-media journey through the music of the 1960s including: The Kinks, The Animals, The Troggs, The Zombies, Dave Clark Five, The Hollies, Spencer Davis Group, Manfred Mann, The Who, The Yardbirds, and of course, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles. The show also features tributes to women of the 60s brit-rock era including Dusty Springfield, Petula Clarke, Sandy Shaw and Lulu.

Legendary hit songs, irresistible grooves, great harmonies and non-stop dancing. Get with the in crowd one night only. Relive the 60s and dress for the night. Best 60s dressed fans can win some great prizes.

DINNER AND SHOW PACKAGES AVAILABLE. Bookings are limited. Please call Deb or Teagan on 8340 0744 for more info on pricing, our 3-course menu and buying your ticket today!!

Dr Hook

Timeless World Tour

20 October | Her Majesty’s Theatre

A treat for fans of Dr Hook – an evening of timeless hits fronted by the legendary voice of founding lead vocalist Dennis Locorriere and his celebrated live band.

Since the band’s farewell tour in 1985, Dennis Locorriere has toured the world performing for the most part as a solo artist with just his magical voice and an acoustic guitar. Following the 2015 release of Universal Record’s Timelessalbum, Locorriere has embarked on a World Tour to celebrate the ‘Hook’ legacy.

Australian audiences couldn’t get enough Dr Hook during the 1970s and 80s. With five Australian tours in under a decade, the group’s popularity made them regular visitors and virtual household names.

Fans will remember the group’s two Number One singles, ‘Sylvia’s Mother’ and ‘Walk Right In’, among their collection of Top 10 singles including ‘Girls Can Get It’, ‘Wild Colonial Boy’, ‘The Millionaire’, ‘Only Sixteen’, ‘A Little Bit More’ and ‘Sharing the Night Together’. ‘Baby Made her Blue Jeans Talk’ made it to #11.

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear these timeless songs performed live by the legendary voice who recorded them. One night only!

Long-running stalwarts of 70s and 80s British rock The Stranglers will tour Australia next year.

Now a casual 40 years deep into their career, the band will dust off tracks ranging from their 1977 debut Rattus Norvegicus to the 16 albums that have followed. This will be their first trip down under since supporting Blondie in 2012.

The current Stranglers lineup consists of founding members Jean-Jacques Burnel, Dave Greenfield and current guitarist and frontman Baz Warne, with touring drummer Jim McCaulay filling in for original drummer Jet Black. Black, however, has been known to join the band onstage at bigger shows, so there’s a distinct possibility this run of theatres fits the bill.

Warne, the band’s guitarist since 2000 when he replaced John Ellis (who with vocalist Paul Roberts replaced founding frontman Hugh Cornwell in 1990) is pretty keen to return our way. “We always have a great time in Australia,” he said in a Facebook post. “They know how to do it down there and we always rise to it… bring it on!”

Tickets are available via Ticketmaster

The Stranglers 2016 Australian tour dates

Sunday April 17 – Metro Theatre, Sydney

Monday April 18 – The Tivoli, Brisbane

Wednesday April 20 – The Corner, Melbourne

Friday April 22 – Thebarton Theatre, Adelaide

[TD=class: yiv4355224378emailcolsplit, align: left]All You Need Is Love

6 February 2016 | Festival Theatre

All You Need Is Love celebrates the songs that captivated a generation – 30 Beatles masterpieces performed live in a spectacular concert event.

From the producers of The White Album Concert and Rubber Soul Revolver, All You Need is Love features the vocal brilliance of Jack Jones, Ciaran Gribbin, Darren Percival and Jackson Thomas with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.

The songs are carefully chosen from the Beatles canon for their instrumentation and arrangements, seamlessly integrating a full orchestra with the Beatles own rock sensibility.

Celebrating the intimacy of ‘Yesterday’, the exuberance of ‘Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band’ and the breathtaking orchestrations of producer and arranger George Martin in songs such as ‘Eleanor Rigby’ and ‘Across the Universe’, these classics lay squarely at the heart of the Beatles universal appeal.

“A mammoth production layered with orchestral grandeur and old fashioned rock ’n’ roll that spans all the colours of the psychedelic rainbow”

– The Review

If you love the Beatles, you won’t want to miss this sensational live concert event.

[TD]CHERIE CURRIE

Tuesday 31 May

"The lost daughter of Iggy Pop and Brigitte Bardot" Bomp Magazine

What do you get when you put 5 teenage girls together with a crazy pop Svengali? … MAYHEM! The Runaways burst onto the scene in 1975 with a 15 year old Cherie Currie out front screaming the instant classic “Cherry Bomb”!

The Runaways created a sensation wherever they appeared and quickly catapulted from playing small clubs to selling out major stadiums—headlining shows with opening acts like the Ramones, Van Halen, Cheap Trick and Blondie.

Dakota Fanning portrayed Currie in The Runaways, a biographical drama film executive-produced by Joan Jett and based on Cherie’s own memoir, Neon Angel, which recounted life in the band and Cherie’sr traumatic experiences with drug addiction, sex abuse, and her broken family. Cherie also appeared in the documentary Edgeplay, a documentary on her former band, produced by former Runaways bass guitarist Vicki Blue.

Cherie takes to the stage walloping straight into “American Nights” from Runaways’ debut, album. That incredible voice is still as strong as ever and she looks a million dollars at 56 years of age.” Gigslutz Cherie’s released a new solo album, Reverie, in 2015 which features appearances from ex-Runaway’s bandmate, Lita Ford and the final production work by former manager Kim Fowley.

[TD]LEVELLERS

Tuesday 11 October

PERFORMING 'Levelling The Land' LIVE

'Levelling The Land' features the hit singles One Way, 15 Years and Far From Home plus The Game, Liberty Song, Sell Out, Another Man’s Cause, Riverflow and Boatman.

The era-defining album will be performed in its entirety, followed by an extended encore of live favourites from the Levellers extensive back catalogue.

Levellers have been called a lot conflicting of things over their 27-year history. However, the closest thing to a consensus surrounding the seminal British folk-punk band is that their platinum-selling 1991 album Levelling The Land is an absolute classic. In one fell swoop it propelled a group of disenfranchised misfits from playing pubs in Brighton to headlining Glastonbury Festival, and in the process becoming ‘The most popular band in Britain’ (NME).

During the summer of 1991 Levelling The Land redefined the UK’s musical landscape. Counter-culture became culture, the disenfranchised found a voice, and not a single pub, club, campfire or festival anywhere in Europe failed to reverberate with the refrains of this iconic album. Levellers provided the soundtrack for a society fed up with the twin evils of Thatcherite politics, and the post-80’s, pre-grunge musical wasteland.

Then as now, Levellers may have been hated, but they were also adored. More importantly, this album caused a reaction in everyone who heard it. Musically and lyrically it absolutely forbade ambivalence. It is exactly this quality which explains that why, 2 decades later, when all but the era’s very best music has faded from memory, each and every track has stood the test of time.

“Only once in a blue moon would I try doing a solo show in the old days, and that was with an electric guitar. I thought it would be easy but it wasn’t. You have to reappraise the whole thing, play differently, change your solo style. You have to go back to the song, look at what the lyrics are about, find a new way to express them. “Still burning bright after all these years” Louder Than War

Formed in 1977 in Belfast, Ireland, Stiff Little Fingers were at the forefront of the punk movement. Contemporaries of The Clash, Sex Pistols, The Jam, Buzzcocks, Undertones, Sham 69 and Stranglers, they wrote initially about their own lives growing up at the height of The Troubles in Northern Ireland. In November of '77, they released "Suspect Device" and "Wasted Life" on their own Rigid Digits label, and sent a copy to BBC Radio One DJ John Peel, who started playing it every night.

“Burns still holds the crowd in the palm of his hand, and he can back it up with pure talent.” Punk News

These were the first of what became SLF's signature style: lyrics that meld the personal and political, music that combines the energy of punk with infectious hooks, and delivery that rings of honesty and commitment. In 1979 they became the first band ever to hit the UK Top 20 album charts on an independent label with their debut “Inflammable Material”. The album chronicles the band's anger and frustration at "the Troubles" in Northern Ireland, and calls on youth to create their own reality.

“You know what you’re getting at a Fingers gig; raw, impassioned punk rock played like they really mean it, and a good chunk of the setlist is like catching up with an old friend.” Shields Gazette

Bad Religion and Rancid have both credited Stiff Little Fingers as a major influence. A Stiff Little Fingers live show continues to be a special event of energy and power and the band are more in demand than ever. Highlights from their latest studio album, “No Going Back” will sit alongside anthemic favourites such as "Alternative Ulster", “Wasted Life”, “Tin Soldiers”, “Nobodys Hero” and "Suspect Device”.

“We are a punk band that’s been doing it for thirty-seven years. We have always tried to play music that entertains, but means something in terms of social commentary. Sometimes we are called a “Political” band, but I would say “political” with a small “p” … we don’t play a lot of love songs” Jake Burns

I went to The Stranglers concert at Thebarton on Friday. They last played in Adelaide in 1979...37 years ago! They mentioned that many bands skip Adelaide when touring...

We do have plenty of visitors in coming months!

I will be at the forthcoming British India concert at The Gov....

At the early age of 22 years old, James Blake released the visionary and era defining EP CMYK, while his debut, self titled album a year later, earned him unanimous praise and worldwide success. His first two albums revealed his innovative musical identity and the constants of his sound; crisp production, mastery of bass frequencies, the combination of organic and digital elements, his natural talent on the piano and his hypnotic vocals. These attributes were amply demonstrated on second album Overgrown, deservedly winning him the Mercury Music Prize which led to a Grammy Nomination for Best New Artist.
