Minimum seems to be 4 weeks

There are lots of public holidays in South Australia - eg: Australia Day, Anzac Day, Adelaide Cup (a day off for a horse race.. yippee!!!), Queens Birthday, Labour Day + the standard Christmas and Easter.

Some occupations have more holidays - eg: health due to shift conditions, teachers etc

Generally companies also offer 'long service leave' which gives a number of extra days to be taken in a block after a number of years of employment.

As others have said it is generally 4 weeks (20 days) but the Public holidays are in addition to this. It will depend on you line of work whether you get these off or not as some of them are only holidays in certain states - EG Adelaide cup day is only a holiday in SA and the next we have coming up, Labour day is only a public holiday in SA, NSW and ACT.

i get 10 public holidays , 4 weeks annual leave, 12 days paid days off (accrue 2hrs p/week for these), 10 days paid sick leave, accrual for long service leave to take 3 months off after 10yrs of employment at current work place, but trades can get portable long service leave where you can move from employer to employer and still keep your lsl as long as this is being paid by your employer, but you can pay it yourself as a contractor ...

depends what industry you are in too- my hubby is an electrician and he gets RDOs (rostered days off) so he is paid for 36 hours a week but he actually work 40 , and every other weekend is a long weekend for him. hie company are enforcing rdos at the minute, so everyone has to take them every other monday because things are quiet, but when it picks up you can store them for a month or so.... depends if u want/need the extra money, some companies do it some dont...i think its a fab idea, he basically gets an extra 20 plus days off in a year :)

Bear in mind that some companies require you to work for them for a certain length of time before you have accrued your holiday. For instance, if you get 20 days paid leave a year, you would accrue 1.666 days per month worked, so you couldn't take 5 days off until you'd been there three months, and so on. Some companies will let you go into negative holiday, particularly those that have a shutdown period, but then you have to repay those days if you leave before you've got back up to positive holiday again!!
