  1. pleased to say the mattress has found a good home. Thanks Sharon!!
  2. Absolutely Sharon - i'll pm you my details
  3. i have a queen bed mattress going free if anyone wants it! Would be great as a stop gap while waiting for your stuff to arrive or for a guest bed. You would need to collect as we have no means of delivering it. We're in Woodcroft. Cheers!
  4. We were there too Doug. First time for us and i'm pleased to say even my kids rose early to join us. Very somber but a wonderful experience. My dad is a Vietnam vet and it felt good to be there for him (he's in the UK)
  5. My husband saw Dr Pese - based at Urological Solutions on South Rd -just after the Anzac Highway if you are going North. He was excellent and Roy was treated very promptly and all on Medicare. He needed surgery and was treated at The Repat so not sure where he will operate out of when this closes. Prior to seeing Dr Pese he saw another in North Adelaide, who had the worst bedside manner I have ever encountered and kept telling us that we would have to go interstate to have the treatment as no-one in Adelaide could perform the operation! Clearly lies! Dr Pese was great and Roy's had no problems since his treatment
  6. If you have anything with telstra you can get tickets for $11 for Event Cinemas - can't be used after 5pm on a Saturday or public holidays but any other time is good and as you book on line you can select where you sit. And we always take food and drink with us. It's too expensive otherwise
  7. Is that for a rental Blossom? Because our water bill is never that low but we do own our home. If it's for a rental then that's not too bad but when we rented we never had to pay for water - guess each landlord is different. FYI our last water bill was over $350!! But we do have to pay for everything - actual water used, sewage and supply charges etc and there are 5 adults living in the house.
  8. Another recommendation for Bunches - the last ones that I sent to my sister lasted beautifully and they send a little box of chocolates with them. And it's free delivery
  9. Gorgeous!! Congratulations
  10. We're in Woodcroft - maybe a bit further inland than you were thinking but certainly not that far from the beach. My kids went through Woodcroft Primary and then Reynella East College (formally Reynella East High) Both are state schools and my kids did really well - currently both at uni - and we had no major issues with either school.
  11. Ours is 2.5 times what it was last year! Not happy Jan
  12. We always use the place in Marion just down the escalator from the cinema. It's only small but they have an area where you try them on and they pin them up. I think with jeans they often say to wash them first as they do sometimes shrink a little. We have had loads done there - my husband has VERY short legs!! - and we've never had an issues. They charge $15 for a standard trouser hem - not sure about jeans.

    E cigarettes

My husband who has smoked for more years than I've known him (26 and counting) has just purchased on of these and has not had a real cigarette since - he's only had it since the end of last week but I'm really impressed with how he is doing. He got his from a shop on Goodwood road and was recommended this place by a guy at work. It's still early days but so far so good and he's never got this far before.
  14. Hubby and I saw Calvary at the cinema recently - quite dark humour and shocking ending but brilliant cast. I loved Philomena as well - sobbed from about 10 minutes in. And I can't go past Hot Fuzz! So funny!!
  15. This was one thing that crossed my mind Anne. We simply cannot get anyway outside the country without a flight of some considerable distance.
  16. Maybe slightly off topic but was wondering if anyone else had noticed this. Since the plane was shot down I have seen several comments from people I am friends with on Facebook - all saying how awful it is and sending their thoughts to the families left behind. Everyone of these posts have come from people living here in Australia, not one from people I know the UK. Has this been the case for others of you here in Australia and for those of you living in the UK I wondered how events are being portrayed in the media. It is a massive story here and is the lead story on practically every news bulletin. Is it being played down in the UK?? For those of us here why do you think it seems to have had a bigger impact?? Just really got me thinking.....
  17. I use a calling card and when it says that the credit has expired I just top up again and the other credit is reactivated - I think it's called Red Tomato?? possibly?? As long as I use the same pin number it always reactivates the other credit when I top up again - don't know if that helps
  18. Hi Ali We've been here nearly 10 years now and our kids were 7 and 10 when we arrived. Both went through the public school system for both primary and secondary schooling. My daughter is in her 3rd year of her Uni degree and looking at doing honors next year and my son is about to start Uni this year too. Both went to the same co-ed schools and we feel that there are definitely plenty of options to do well in the schooling system here if your children are that way inclined. But what we also really like about the education system here is there seems to be more options avaliable for the children who are more skilled on a practical level too and in my opinion the education system is more rounded as a result. As for whether to make the move or not - you need to look at your current situation - Are you earning a good income, do you like where you live, are you very close to you family and do you spend much time with them? If I'm completely honest if we could have said yes to these questions we possibly wouldn't have come but for us, 10 years ago, the answer to most of these would have been no and I believe moving here was the very best decision for us. We love it here and our quality of life far outweighs what we had in England. Do lots of research, ask lots of questions before you decide. Good luck !
  19. My favourite that very few people seem to remember were Counters - bit like chocolate buttons but better. They came in little white packets with animal pictures on...ah memories!
  20. Just back from our trip and have to agree - the Meriton Apartments at World Tower were fantastic!! Would highly recommend staying there. Also as cazzie said Watson's Bay was gorgeous. One of the few places we went to that I could honestly see myself living. Beautiful!
  21. Hi guys. My son has just got his P's (yah - no more running around for us!! ) and he has a car but wants to have a subwoofer and some other speakers put in. Has anyone used anyone for this sort of thing that you would recommend. He has all the gear just needs someone to install it. Thanks Sally
  22. Both my kids have completed all their high schooling there and we have had no problems - my daughter left 2 years ago and is currently at the Uni of Adelaide studying a BA in English and classics having left Reynella with an atar of 84 (the score they need for uni). my son is currently in year 12 - he finishes soon - and is also hopefully going to uni. Are all the teachers good? Of course not but there are some amazing teachers there who I would rate most highly. Do they all give a damn? Again no but there are plenty that do. I'll be honest - when we looked for our daughter it was not top of our list but she did amazingly well there, as is my son, so it really isn't all bad. If you have any other more specific questions let me know.
  23. Thanks Jenny - that's really good to know. Really looking forward to our trip.
  24. We are going at the end of November and are staying in the Meriton Serviced Apartments world Tower. Never been before but it has excellent write up's on trip advisor. Might be worth taking a look at a few places and then searching them on Trip advisor to see the general consensus. Obviously it is very personal but if all the reviews are terrible then at least you know to avoid a place.
