  1. I think transfercar.com.au offer a similar service, it's a fab idea, we are thinking of doing one of these next year.
  2. Whilst some people clearly do struggle with finding work, this is not the case for everyone. It is important people know the balanced view and not just the bitter, negative side which can be terrifying for those who have already committed to the move. My husband and I both found work within a month of arriving, he switched careers completely (from finance to travel) which was exactly as desired. This year I decided to leave the IT company I had been with since arriving and switch back to higher education - it took a lot of determination and many, many applications but I got there. We are definitely not 2nd rate people doing 3rd rate jobs. Work is there, but it won't be handed to you on a plate and some people struggle and get disillusioned and then seem to love scare mongering on here.
  3. Yes, I have registered and had the letter to my Australian address to confirm it is where the postal vote will arrive. I was pretty pleased to find out I could still vote in the UK as I can't vote here until I'm a citizen which is a few years off. Not being able to have a say anywhere would have annoyed me.
  4. Definitely drive up to Wilpena Pound and walk the trails, there are different lengths and difficulties and it is really beautiful and free (just the cost of the national park pass which is about $20 per vehicle I think). From Rawnsley Park there are also a couple of walking trails which are spectacular at sunrise/sunset. The Woolshed restaurant there is also v good (medium priced).
  5. Try Adelaide Word of Mouth too, I've been to one of their breakfast events and it was pretty good: http://awom.com.au/
  6. I made an oreo cheesecake at the weekend, found plenty of supplies of the normal packets in Glenelg Coles if it's any help.
  7. Bit of a hipster vibe but Pure in Glenelg does awesome coffee and a great range of alcoholic coffees for post dinner too (their Devils Chai is amazing), we sometimes get takeaway to watch the sunset with as they are right near the beach.
  8. This is only our second summer here and I am already totally down with that entire list, we rent a house with no air con and it's almost funny how hot we get, I've been doing number 16 continuously!
  9. Geez what a load of scaremongering tosh, I currently live in vibrant, beautiful, awesome Glenelg, I lived in London at the time of the 7/7 bombings, wherever you live there are always the risk of accidents, terrorism, natural disasters...it's called life. If you let the fear of any of these things affect your judgement then you may as well go and live as a hermit in a cave. And as for Adelaide not being a cultural centre, I'm slightly baffled as to how you could ever say that!? Hilarious. There is just as much accessible culture here as in many European cities, also a lot more inclusive events for people of all ages and backgrounds, I guess that's why SA is the festival state.
  10. Oops - yes - quite right Diane - I meant Goolwa! Lol
  11. Strathalbyn is also very close to the awesome wineries of Langhorne Creek and you can visit Gawler on the way back - a lovely trip which we did in a weekend a few months ago. Also visiting the Flinders is well worth it, though it's a further drive than Clare, Wilpena Pound is absolutely stunning and the Flinders are an amazing sight at sunset.
  12. I have Amaysim unlimited, love it, totally enough data and calls etc for me at a pretty good price ($40 per month). No issues with coverage for me either - I live in glenelg and work in the CBD.
  13. Apologies, Sidestep, that bleary eyed first thing this morning I momentarily forgot to check their profile. Love the sarcasm on here
  14. Whereabouts are you based? Might be interested.
  15. Yep, Amaysim are good for high data, the $40 a month gets 4GB and I never manage to use it all despite hammering it quite a lot!
  16. This is quite an old thread so the previous posters may not be able to help - however, I am in cerazette and thankfully did my research prior to moving out to Adelaide in March 2013 so I knew I would not be able to get it here. It is he only pill that has ever worked for me and I was determined not to give it up or start trying others again so before we left I got my usual 6 months supply from the doctors and then bought another 6 months via https://www.pharmacy2u.co.uk Unfortunately, pharmacy2u will only deliver in the uk so I then them delivered to my mom and then get her to send them over to me which has worked ok this time, every time I go back to the UK I plan on stocking up again and every time my folks come out I will get them to bring some more - it seems like the only way to access cerazette here. At some point I know I may have to bite the bullet and switch but for now this method is working for me.
  17. Sure you will have a fab time, we took my parents on one over Christmas and it was brilliant. Stunning scenery, very chilled out. Husband nearly stepped on a brown snake on Christmas Day as he jumped off the boat to moor it, so do look at your feet when on the banks!
  18. Lucky this year as my mom and step dad are here with us. Missing my dad, in laws and siblings though. To be honest it's swings and roundabouts though, I won't miss all the driving around trying to fit everybody in on Xmas day itself. Ironically, both parents are pretty ill with bugs caught during long haul flights here so they are pretty hard work at the moment and that's more annoying cos we cannot do all the things we planned. Xmas is just stress central whatever you end up doing, to be honest, the only person I really need is my husband and this amazing country full of beautiful things. It's been one massive, joyous adventure since we arrived in May. Merry Christmas to you all and a peaceful and sunny new year. Ali
  19. Excited about this cos we live in Glenelg - have really missed proper chips (rather than frozen ones!).
  20. Typo do a fab range and are also available online - they are the stationery arm of Cotton On - http://shop.cottonon.com/shop/typo/journals There is a shop in Rundle Mall, I adore their stuff.
  21. Just a quick reply to stem the tide of applications! This post is no longer accepting any further applications - please note we have had so many applications that only successful candidates will be contacted. Cheers folks.
  22. Hi all I work for a fab elearning company in the CBD called e3learning (http://e3learning.com.au/) who are currently recruiting for an IT Support team member. Need to be IT savvy, have great customer service skills and be a quick learner. It is a great place to work, on South Terrace so handy for the tram, very laid back and multi-cultural place to work and we have just been bought out by Open Universities Australia so prospects are good. Salary will be dependent on experience. If you are interested then please drop me a pm and I will give you the email address you need to send in a CV. Ali
  23. Hi folks When we emigrated in March I bough an iPhone 4 with me which was unlocked so I could switch between uk and Oz SIM cards - it has served me well since I got it (oct 2012) but the apple geek in me has bowed to pressure and bought a 5 - so this is now surplus to requirements. The phone is black, 32gb, perfect condition as it has always been in a hard cover (included) and under a screen protector so no scratches at all. The home button has recently started occasionally sticking but apparently this is a fairly common and fixable problem in these phones - it still works just fine, maybe one time in 10 needs pressing twice. No box (was sacrificed in the move) or charger/lead (these are in short supply in my apple centric house but you can pick up a generic one easy enough in Kmart/Big W) but I do have the manual and sim opening tool. So - phone, case, manual/tool, unlocked, 32 gb with no dents/scratches - $300 Pick up from Glenelg.
  24. Yep, completely right on bra sizes, I am a 38DD but I can't find any decent DD cup bras which are not ginormous back sizes, even the ones I can find look like something out an 80s porn film. Thank god Debenhams ship! Their Gorgeous range has been my 'go to' for years and I know what size I am in that range, there is nothing like it here for quality or range.
