Oz beer. The worst in the world?

I have a confession. I went into a bottle shop tonight to pick up some beer. Being a new arrival and (although trying hard not to) still converting everything into sterling, nearly choked when I saw the price. The other part of being new (which I am also trying hard not to) is that I am being extremely tight! I left with 4 bottles of Spumante. Each bottle was cheaper ($4.49) than a single can of beer. Is that wrong? Should I pack up and head back to the UK in shame? What if I told you one of them was passion fruit flavour?

James, you have got to stop converting. I did it all the time and it just makes you not buy things. Just remember what you lose in beer you gain in fuel.
