      wisdom teeth

      Hello

Has anyone had wisdom teeth removed whilst been here. I went to dentist yesterday and told needed to see a specialist to have 2 wisdom teeth removed. Apparently need to see an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon. I have no idea of the cost involved etc and would like to hear from you if ou can advice me of who to see and the cost etc? Any help would be good, Thanks Jon

I am due to have one wisdom tooth removed in September. I have seen Dr Carter on North Terrace in the city. Dr Carter charges $445 to remove the tooth and the anaesthetist's fee is $440 (of which you get back $135 from Medicare).

      Not cheap!

Thanks for the reply. Are you having your tooth removed in the dentist chair or at hospital?

In the dentist chair but the Surgeon recommended an anaesthetist as he may have to dig the tooth out!

After the initial consultation did you have to wait long for a date given for the work done and the tooth out? I am in a lot of pain and would like my two wisdom teeth out ASAP

I had 1 Wisdom and 3 others taken out in February. I opted for the hospital as anaesthetist fees were covered and I really didn't want to be awake! It cost about $1300

      Good luck!

PM if you want any further info

I had to wait for the swelling and infection to clear up as the surgeon wouldn't touch it. I think it was around 5 weeks for the appointment. Do you have medication from your dentist?

I have some painkillers, but I am quite a nervous patient and the wait makes me more nervous so would rather be booked in quickly as I will panic the longer I wait.
