  1. Looking at a bathroom reno, based in Highbury. Would appreciate recommendations or contacts. Thanks
  2. Adelaide has very good areas and not so good areas. As a mum of 2 young kids (6&9) when we arrived 4 years ago I believe it is much safer here. Kids are allowed to be kids and compared to their uk cousins they are much less worldly. I gave no issue letting my kids go to shopping centres and movies alone etc as well as giving them freedom to bike around and play out with friends in our area. Something that didn't happen in the uk. I'm also a police officer so do see all sides, good and bad but I still feel safe and content with where we chose to live.
  3. Hi- we are at Highbury and have been here 4 years. Ours son is 10 and daughter 11. Happy to meet up
  4. we are at Highbury too and love it. We live just near the community gardens and they are fab. Foothills of Adelaide are the best in my opinion but depends what you like..
  5. I went for a look around as a non member as I was a member in the U.K. For us, who are not brand loyal and buy products that are on special it was no cheaper and I don't think worth the membership. However, others swear by the place..... personal preference!!
  6. My husband teaches year 7, the last year of primary school here. He prepared a cv when we arrived and after registering as a teacher began visiting schools. He also regoistered with relief teaching pools which are st a number of different schools. Within a few days he had a few days work and then was offered and started a contract at one of the schools. Just 4 weeks after arriving in 2013 he had a contract which became permanent. He may have been lucky but if you are prepared to work in northern suburbs, which tend to be harder and more challenging roles with higher staff turnover he should find work without too many issues.
  7. Happy to meet for a dog walk at the beach. Largs bay?

  12. Hi- We are in the process of buying a house which requires painting internally. The house is 4 bed, 2 living areas etc and I need ceilings and walls painting only throughout the house. 13. Hi, We are moving house in January a short distance from St Agnes to Highbury and are looking at removal options. We can move most of it ourselves but will struggle with larger items like couch, fridge etc. Can anyone recommend a man with van or a cheap/reliable moving company. thanks
  14. Hi- we looked at high bury when we arrived and tbh preferred athelstone. High bury is a very large primary school and was too big for our kids, moving from a school of around 280 in the uk. It had nice facilities but there are better schools nearby in my opinion. Admissions are really quick in Oz so just book a few visits for when you arrive and form your own decision based on you and your family.
  15. Hi- my hubby is a teacher. He teaches primary school and has been turning work away. We also have a friend who was working four or five days a week trt. The courses can be booked from the uk and they are first aid and a mandatory abuse course. My hubby did 4 days trt and was offered a contract which has turned into a two year contract with a view o becoming permanent. There is plenty of work in the northern suburbs and if you are flexible and reliable schools will always have you back. My husbands very first day trt was home economics in a high school....
  16. I will take it. Drop me a message and I will arrange to meet and pay for it x
  17. Hey guys- my hubby is a huge tykes fan. Let me know if any meet ups etc for games and I will let him know
  18. I was with O2, I contacted them before leaving uk and they unlocked it for free. I just arrived and got an Oz sim.
  19. We have been here six months .....no regrets so far. Life is the same as uk it's just a much nicer place to be!
  20. Our cat was in Melbourne for the duration of quarantine and we didn't see him from when he left heathrow till we picked him up. We drove down the coast on the way to Melbourne which was around 13 hours, stayed in a motel near quarantine and picked him up Sunday morning. Quickest route home was 8 hours. We did it in a weekend, petrol was around $150 and hotel $100. Lovely to see theGreat Ocean Road but we could have gone the quick way!
  21. OSH is out school care- same as after school club in uk. CCR is childcare rebate which you get from centrelink if both parents are working. We are fam of four and spent around $150 per week on food, $40 on petrol, $25 per week on gym. You could live on a salary if around $50k but it would be tight. We both work full time and hubby is top of teaching scale but has a contract for two years.
  22. Hi Our electricity is around $450 a quarter, broadband is $70 per month, rent $350 per week, OSH are is $92 per week for two kids after school only as you get half back from CCR
  23. My cat travelled with extra bedding for quarantine packed separately. It was my dressing gown so tag he could still smell us......when we picked him up he just looked at me as if to say..."who are you?". One tip tho, they didn't trim his claws and cos he usually goes outside they grew really long. First thing I did was trim them do may be worth asking them to check.
  24. Mine was fine in quarantine and when we finally picked him up I queued with all the other crazy animal folk who were just as excited as us and promptly burst into tears when I saw him. That was in may and he has settled in perfectly. In at night but out all day.
