Quote for container seems not to bad, we did on line quote with john mason and anglo paciffic both worked out about the same £3700 to £4000.

Hi Cara,

 

No its not long for us.... 5 weeks this Thursday and counting, and even though I am excited, time is moving very quickly and its also a bit nerve racking at the same time. My husband, Rob, is already there as the job offer came up and wanted him to start ASAP so off he went almost 5 weeks ago now.

 

Its been a real rollercoaster of a journey (as it is for everyone I am sure), had our ups and downs really, what with my older daughter 19 saying right from the start of the visa process that she didnt want to come, so talked her into having the visa anyway (as the process was exactly the same in any case) and come and validate with us for long holiday...... anyways she has now decided to come and give it a go, so my persistance has paid off, just hope now that she will like it.

 

We do have friends in Queensland and since Rob has been there he has met up with an old neighbour and her family, they have introduced him to other families so all I have to do is show up and meet my ready made friends lol

 

On a serious note though, we have lived abroad before and learnt lessons from that experience, and if there is one piece of advice I would give anyone who is about to make this massive move it would be to accept any help or advice offered when you get there.

 

I will keep you posted and good luck with your application and to all the others who are currently waiting, it will be worth it, and who knows in a years time we could all be sat in our back yards with drink in hand watching the sunset

That's good that Rob's already a bit settled over there that should help you to settle in as like you say you already have friends you can socialise with.

 

Good to hear your daughter has decided to give it a go, well done for perservering, she probably would have regretted it & wished she was coming if you hadn't! I'm sure she will love it once she gets settled, everyone says it's much easier to make friends out there. I'm sure her current friends will be well jealous & the good ones will stay in touch & make it our to visit eventually.

 

We definitely need people like you to pass on advice & tips & your arrival stories will keep us going, especially for us as we still have nearly a year til we go.

We land in Adelaide 24th. got friends in Blackwood putting us up til we sort out rental. Very emotional now excited, yet scared of the unknown as Never set foot in Australia before so were going into this blind apart from internet investigating and going off what our friends who live their have said. Nothing sorted yet, other half is already there and in the process of house hunting so should be sorted soon. Time does go real quick once you book those flights......but all good and hoping to have bit of a chillax once we get there

Turned down her first offer and spent rest of day feeling sick but she upped it, thank god! Good luck, it's a nightmare just keeping place clean in case someone wants to see it, isn't it!

Ours has been for sale 3wks , 2 lookers and everything packed in garage 2 de clutter. It's so stressfull keeping tidy for viewing especially when you've got a 2yr old to contend with aswell.

Hi Everyone

Cara, please can we join your thread, great idea, didn't realise there was so many of us planning the move this year! Hopefully get to meet up with some of you when we arrive. We went out on a reccie in 2008 and loved the Blackwood area so were planning on settling there but have heard great things about Port Noarlunga too. Don't have any friends or family there so will probably decide when we get there. Thought we had all the time in the world to finalise plans etc then the house sold within 5 days on being on the market so panic has set in!

We had 2 lookers 6 weeks ago when it first went on market but nothing since. In the mean time one of the lookers is now in a position to buy and out of the blue had a phone call first thing with an offer! Crossing my fingers now all is in order with him financially. We too have taken 3 years to get our visas and are taking the plunge this year. We have been before though, many moons ago back packing all over. Fell in love with Adelaide and can't wait to make it our new home.
