  1. Yes I went on Friday (as I also miss M and S!). I had a delicious chicken schnitzel sandwich (much fresher and lighter than you'd imagine!) and fresh orange juice for $11. All sandwiches looked lovely, service was great and quite a few seats. Will be back (may have to try the ham one with crisps!)
  2. Hi Just wanted to let any nurses out there know there is an exciting new job advertised on SA Health. TIA/ minor Stroke CPC (RN3) at the Lyell McEwen Hospital- full time and permanent. The job is new and is to set up the rapid assessment clinic-this is the job I do at the RAH and I can highly recommend it (Monday to Friday and business hours and the Consultant who you would work alongside is lovely.) Please feel free to message me if you have any questions. http://jobs.sahealthcareers.com.au/mob/caw/en/job/573615/clinical-practice-consultant-trancient-ischaemic-attackminor-stroke-nurse
  3. Thanks for the info, have our tickets and the YouTube link sent me into teenage scream mode!
  4. Hi just wanted to agree with Cliffy, all referrals are triaged and the Drs can only go on what the GP has written. Lots of GPs will write urgent but not provide enough or sometimes any detail to allow the decision to be made, some of the referrals I see are rubbish! Also agree that your GP can usually phone the registrar attached to whatever speciality it is to discuss and this can then make a difference.
  5. Yes I'm guilty, I leave at 6am to get to work by 7am, don't really have to be at work till 8 or 9 but means I can leave half three/ four and that makes all the difference! If I don't leave until five takes an hour and a half! Wouldn't trade where I live, and it is never as bad as Edinburgh where cars just don't move!
  6. First one to vote so it's a 100% for independence, now if only that was the actual result
  7. Hi,

Mal has tried to send a private message, did you get it? It seems to disappear!

  8. Hi, I drive Monday to Friday from mclaren vale to city, 6.30 am going, 4.30 pm back and it's definitely been easier this week! 45 mins there, 60 mins back. Still driven mad by those going 60kmh side by side in the 100kmh zone!
  9. Hi i work in the RAH and I know a ward manager who rates British nurses but recently when recruiting she was advised she wouldn't be allowed to sponsor anyone so they would need their own visa. Things change all the time though! IELTS isn't as bad as it seems good luck!
  10. Great to hear how you are doing! How are you finding nursing at the RAH? Must be most confusing hospital layout, even now after two years I find myself looking for something on level 5 and heading off to the stairs to realise I started on level 5!! Actually except Flinders where you have up to even find the right lift! Maybe it's just me keep up the good posts! gill x
  11. Congratulations! Took us a year and shalt of looking!! Cheers x
  12. Hi we are moving a three bedroom house from port noarlunga to mclaren vale and wondering if anyone has used a good removals company recently? When I say we, I mean me (!) as my hubbie will be offshore! So need two men, but everything will be packed and/or broken up. Thanks gill x
  13. Hi, thanks for the replies! the estate agent says hopefully the husband owner knows where it is! Glad to hear we're not the only novices to it, we initially panicked imaging it going wrong and a garden full of poo, but figure all the people living there manage somehow! thanks Tamara, it's only taken us a year of looking! Will be nice to have weekends back thanks Flossybeth, I'll take you up in that cup of tea when we move gill x
  14. Hello we are (hopefully) about to buy a house in mclaren vale and have been told it has a septic tank on the community waste management scheme. Estate agent is waiting to find out from the vendor where it is in garden, but does anyone know a way for us to check this? Also does anyone know of rules re. septic tamk distances etc if we think about putting an in ground pool in? Do all house have their own in mclaren vale? Thanks for any info gill x
  15. Hi We are finally about to put an offer on a house in mclaren vale after the worlds longest house search! May not get it but trying to get organised so can anyone recommend a person for a building and pest inspection in South Adelaide? Cheers gill
  16. Hi Tamara, a wee bit of the reason I live here is because I was lucky enough to book one of your holiday rentals and then completely fell in love with the area Gill
  17. Hi Karen have been doing a bit of nurse interviewing lately and they are not hugely different except they don't seem to care how long they are! Cheers Gill
  18. Hi, My mum was also in hospital in december whilst on holiday here, she went through emergency, stayed in a day and had CT and MRI with no charge, so not sure why your Dad would get a bill? She did pay for drugs but that was only $50. They even mentioned as I booked her in at ED that there is a reciprocal agreement. Cheers Gill x
  19. Hi lynne As the above said try and time it with the tide if you want to go down to the mouth of the Onk and play in the surf ,I have found just as the tide floods in at the mouth it will carry you all the way back up to the car park at the main road bridge. If you want something more sedate anywhere on the river from the bridge over to the surf club upriver is quite easy to kayak in as the river current is not too strong but you might get stuck in shallow bits so just get out and walk From experience paddling in the wind is a pain in the bottom so try and avoid it, as it catches your paddle and dripping water blows in your eyes. Lots of great birdlife on the Onk if you take a cheap set of binoculars it's good fun, just give the swans time to get out of your way and don't crowd them. I use willyweather app on my I phone to tell me the tides times its really easy to use, there is no best time to go kayaking just go at different times that's the fun of being out in a kayak you can go anywhere anytime ( weather permitting) make sure you wear a life jacket, sun cream, hat, water and whistle all basic safety gear but I've used it all except a whistle thankfully. If you have any other questions give me a shout, have fun kayaking.
  20. Thanks guys, we've gone with the advice and paid it. Lesson learned hopefully, just a shame for hubbie as he is a much better driver than me! May drive everywhere at 50 now Still loving poms in adelaide for the advice! Thanks again x
  21. Hi has anyone chosen to contest their speeding fine in court rather than paying the fine? If so, what happens? my hubbie got fine for going at 61km/hr on a 50km/hr road. Okay that is obviously wrong but we were both under the wrong impression that it was a 60km/hr road as it turns off from a 60km/hr road, is not residential and we have since found the only 50km/hr sign which is small, attached to a electrical box two metres off the side of the road and has also been vandalised to look like 60! just wanted to know if it's worth the bother! (Or expense?) thanks gill x
  22. I must be a proper adelaidian now, I measure my commute to work as twenty mins! Twenty mins from hospital to edge of city, twenty mins to expressway, twenty minutes to house! (An hour!!)
  23. Hi Hemzet i work as a nurse attached to the RAH stroke unit. They have just filled lots of posts, and have two acsc (deputy ward manager to me) posts advertised at the moment but maybe just internally. There are four stroke units so depending where you're planning to live, if you have stroke experience it could be worth contacting the csc on each unit and letting them know when you arrive? I know that the RAH unit wasn't sponsoring so you'd need your visa. Not sure what your circumstances are re rights to work in oz.
  24. Congratulations!! What your new job? I also work at the RAH so let me know if you need any info. Gill x
