  3. OOh that'd be good! I have an application for the casual pool at Noarlunga, just to have a look and maybe get a foot in the door? Settling in well at work, nice staff, lovely manager, still amazed at only having four patients! don't go home knackered or too hot cos of air conditioning! Loads to learn just with the different system here. all the best for interview, let me know how you get on, see you on the otherside! Gill x
  4. Hi We were worried about this too, but had no problems. Our first flight as with bmi and were sure there was going to be a fight but didn't even need to show check in lady the email, she just started chatting! Was convinced we were going to have to get them to phone Singapore airlines, but she even said we could have brought more! Gill x
  5. Hi Lisa, Good luck, mine was really friendly too, same kind of questions as the others, only really stumped by being asked if I had any family in adelaide, and panicked that they wouldn't give me the job cos I don't! From what my manager says if they're going to bother of phoning you in u.k, they probably already want you! Good luck Gill x P.s once you get the job, can you get me one as flinders would half my commute!
  6. Well done with coping with the crappy start! It's a roller coaster! Good luck starting your new job, it was all gobbledygook to me the first few days, but is making more sense already after three weeks, just don't be too hard on yourself, or think you're the first to get lost in the rah, I'm a nightmare! Take care Gill x

  8. HI Sarah, Enjoy the ride! We recently spent the day in victors harbour and thought it was lovely! Could see ourselves moving there if we were lucky in the future! Try to get some sleep before your trip! Gill x
  9. Well done! Must be a relief as it feels like you haemorrhage money at the beginning! Enjoy celebrations! Gill x
  10. Ah but there's Aussie x factor, which for once my hubbie isn't moaning about watching! Gill x
  11. Hi stef, We got first one we applied for but had seen some horrors before that! We were able to put Tamara down as current landlord, and have lovely friend in Brisbane who acted as a reference, and they did call her. Lady in lj hooker said she put a tick on our application cos we seemed a nice couple and she said she can just tell (?!!). We had blethered away to her saying how hard without rental reference as we had been home owners in u.k. It's been quite slow down here lately apparently? We only gave ourselves three weeks but managed! Good luck Gill x

    Nursing ?

Hi Kathy, I know know how you feel, was used to thirty patients between two RN's in an acute stroke unit! I'm sure staffing must get a by worse in royal Adelaide hospital every now and then, but four is soooo lovely! The practitioner nurse on the ward is English and keeps telling the others what a hard worker I'll be as use to so many more patients! I did laugh when the night staff where complainng of having eleven patients between the two of them! Shifts are 7-330, 1300- 2130, and 2100-0730. Are you starting to look? Gill x
  13. Hi stef, Sorry to butt in but we have just left Tamara seaview house, it's great! Lovely view, really comfy, everything you need to start and loved the area so much we now have a long term rental five mins away! Enjoy your stay Gill x

    Nursing ?

Hi kathy, I have just started over here so far from an expert! I am still in shock that I only have four patients on an early or late! Nursing is pretty similar so far, although no health care assistants, all rn and en. Docs do more of the jobs I'm used to but that might just be my ward! Everything seems to be called a different name, which is really the hardest bit! I had a visa first, but got the first job I applied for from u.k, having just seen it on sa health website, and am only doing 32 hrs which is great and four days a week, can't get used to core shifts again! Cheers Gill x
  15. Hi Thanks for the welcomes! Sharon 69, I'm working at the RAH, Flinders would definetly be closer for me! Heard good things about Flinders, although think there is the usual rivalry between hospitals! Lisa- would like to meet up with you too, not long till you get here! Nursing and patients seem much the same, although hardly an expert! Just quite a lot of differences in what things are called, and then cos I dont know they seem to think I cant work them! Lots of the system pretty different to, re discharges etc, I'm desperately trying to catch up with it all, but am basically happy at the moment if my patinets survive my shifts! Oz 4 me, Yes it is cold, but only at night! Our holiday home has really hot heating in two rooms, so that probably makes the bedroom feel even colder! And I thought we were hardy Scots? Tean- its taking me 35 mins to drive in for an early shift, think will take train for a late shift? Sarahtwinn82- does your hubbie have any tips re cheap parking at RAH? Or is this just too much to ask?! Thanks all Gill x
  16. Hi, Well done settling so quickly, we had a quick day trip down to you area, just beautiful! We are till at pnching ourselves stage that we're allowed to live in such a lovely place! Cheers Gill x
  17. Hello, We have been here two weeks and it has flown by! Although in a weird way it feels like months! Singapore airlines flights were great, but we weren't allowed to take our duty free whiskey on last leg which we has bought in London even though it was sealed! Very sad hubbie threw away his whisky! Great holiday rental just where we wanted to be, owned by lovely couple who picked us up at the airport. Really helpful people have helped us everywhere we have gone with getting medicare cards, drivers licenses etc. Not so helpful people with one car we have bought but thats another story ! As I was starting work a week after arriving, we got a bit stressed about finding a rental, viewed some bloody awful ones, but got the first lovely one we saw, nice three bed villa in Port Noarlunga South, handy for the beach and the bakery where I now have a loyalty card! Have finished one week of work, would recommend a bit more time off to start if you can afford it, but certainly makes you know you're not on a holiday. Commute in is a bit far, parking rubbish at the hospital, will look for something a bit nearer home once settled in. Have only had one day sight seeing really, went down to Victor Harbour, but finding whole place so far pretty gorgeous. Hubbie looking longingly at all the fisherman, won't be long in joining them! And, yes as a scottish couple we cannot believ how freezing it is, only at night though, lovely for us in sunshine! Looking forward to slowing down now we have the house keys, and cat arriving next week! Thanks for all the advice that got us here Gill and Mal xx
  18. Great news, congratulations! It's such a stressful thing I'm always soooo glad to see another of us get on that blooming register! cheers Gill x
  19. Hi! Just wanted to say we are starting trip to our Adelaide from Scotland today and am very excited! Our cat left yesterday, but is going to Sydney for her adventure first. Mal has never been to Adelaide and I spent a few days there about twelve years ago! Looking forward to some blue sky? (and hubbie to the fishing!) Thanks everyone who has answered our questions and made the wait much more bearable! See you on the other side of the world? Cheers Gill and Mal xx
  20. How exciting! Not long now, enjoy your trip! We'll be following a few days later!Gill and mal x
  21. Hi, I kept waiting to be asked for second payment and it never came! Eventually I realised that it was only if we had any dependents with poor English! Maybe my English is not good enough to understand their fee system! Good surprise though!Gill
  22. Fabulous News, well done! When do you start? I have Orientation on 22nd Aug! Enjoy your celebration! Gill x
