  1. Titles include Thomas, Possum Magic, Funnybones and many many more. Used but good/ fair condition. $10 the lot. Collect Hallett Cove
  2. An interview? Really? From who/ what I know, pretty much anyone will get in there as long as you can pay for it! I looked round there for my kids, not for us. Too big. Depends on your kids obviously, but not right for mine. I certainly wouldn't worry about an interview though, don't think they are particularly 'selective'.
  3. See my husband - also Hallett Cove. Number below xxx
  4. Hmmm.... sorry about that. I've checked the link and it works for me. Try looking for the ad number which is 1021473352 - thanks!

  6. I've always used a visa debit card - don't have a credit card
  7. It just takes time to establish a social life.... and saying that, you'll probably meet many people here you call friends for a while and then you drift apart. That's life and part and parcel of the move. We have been here for 4 yrs now, 3.5 of those in Hallett Cove. Took what seemed forever to find good friends but I can quite happily say I know so many people- and consider so many more to be friends than I had in the UK. Yes I may live in "little britain" but the majority of my friends are Aussie. Actually, I have friends from Spain, South Africa, China and Ireland too. I have met most through the kids, but not all. I got involved at playgroup/ kindy/ school, joined the SES, now I'm studying and have more friends I have met at Uni. I am so lucky to live here and be surrounded by such beautiful people. Give it time and you'll feel the same way xxx
  8. We are in Hallett Cove - my hubby can repair computers. His number is below xxx
  9. I worked out my own insurance - it was far cheaper than the cost quoted by the shipping companies. Honestly, I think I probably guessed. I would advise you that electrical goods and appliances cost far more here to replace. So I'd double whatever you think it is worth in UK!
  10. I searched i want that flight. com and got Virgin straight through for $1725 end of Jan. Didn't look at other dates
  11. My boys have outgrown their Thomas sets. We have massive amounts of track, many engines, buses, bridges, tunnels and full sets - see gumtree ad for details and pics. http://www.gumtree.com.au/m-my-ad.html?adId=1020863351&posted=true
  12. We have 4 dvds for $3 each; Thomas and the Great Discovery (region 4) Thomas 3 Pack - All aboard with the steam team, It's great to be an engine, Peep Peep Hurray! (Region 2) Dora Saves the Mermaid (region 4) Flushed Away (region 2) Collect from Hallett Cove. PM for details xx
  13. We use the school dentists no problem with the kids. We have taken out extras cover with BUPA, costs about $50 per month for our family of 5. That covers our choice of 4 services and we have optical, dental, major dental and health and wellbeing (because I can claim my gym membership!). We rarely claim but in the 4 years we have been here our 'limit' of cover is quite extensive as it increases every year. Being in the health profession, I am perfectly happy with the public hospital services I have witnessed and received. In some cases, the public waiting lists are shorter than private!
  14. Yup, I'm coeliac, diagnosed here in ADL a couple of years ago. Food here is no problem, range is pretty good. Expensive, but what's new? The range is better here than the UK from what I've heard.
  15. IT jobs are not easy to come by in Adelaide. My husband was lucky - right place, right time, right skills. But we are the minority. Most of the jobs are low paid helpdesk support. Sorry to be a party pooper. However, you don't always have to work in the field you are sponsored for on your visa. If you are open to perhaps doing something else then you may have more options. It probably depends on your skill set tbh xxx
  16. One week? Thats probably not worth the money in my opinion. By the time he's over the jet lag, you can shorten that to 4 days. Not going to get much done in that time, let alone get a real feel for the place
  17. Can't say for this position, but salaries are frequently negotiated. In the first year of moving here, my hubby managed to negotiate a 50% pay rise!!! If you don't ask, you don't get

I think you'll find the system doesn't work like that. All applications need to go through DECD (Education dept) and people are allocated through them. I expect you'd need to meet a certain criteria to be eligible, but you'd have to go through them rather than indiviual schools
  19. We had been here 6 mths, were able to buy with a large deposit. UK credit history not used. We have no credit cards and only had one income. And we only had temporary residency at the time.
  20. Permanent resident = centrelink. Our temporary state sponsored visa (475) = NO centrelink. But now we are permanent (887) and receive centrelink
  21. Anyone know of anything interesting happening over Easter? Do they still do the big egg hunt in Bonython Park? Got 3 boys (9, 6 and 5) to occupy! Thanks
  22. Where do you get this info from? Last time I looked (I use Tesco to deliver bits to relatives at Christmas etc), the Aussie wines cost the same in GBP as they were here in $. So they were more expensive in the UK for sure!
  23. Hey, I'm studying mid too (2nd year) here in Adelaide. SA health like you to to a grad year (TPPP) and spaces are very limited. There is an application process through which students are quided through, but I don't know when/ how yet as I'll be doing that next year. Very hard to get a position without TPPP or experience. Private hospitals are probably your best option xx
