  1. We live down this way at Port Noarlunga Sth and personally I think its fantastic. it pretty much has everything lovely beaches shopping centres rail links a decent bus service. We have been here a year next week and have bought a house in Seaford. I always like to take the back rd up past the river mouth and on the esplanade even on the rainy days its belting view all the way home.
  2. It is a big disappointment for the state but it could be an even bigger disappointment for the states like WA and Qld if the mining boom comes to a halt. The one thing SA has in its favour is that it has never had a mining boom to depend upon.
  3. We have been here just short of one year. To press its been the best thing we have ever done. We live at Port Noarlunga Sth close to the beach, the weekends feel like small holidays in the summer months. My daughter just loves it boarding surfing swimming just messing around in general. It takes some time to get used to the slower pace of life here nothings rushed. But once you settle then yes its great. I would add we have been fortunate that both my wife and I found employment early on and I have a part time job as well. So its not all holiday mode but if your prepared to work then the benefits are there for you. All the best.
  4. Personally I think both areas are great for families and both have a lot of good things going for them. Hallet Cove is around 10-15 min nearer the city and has rail links and a beach. Port Noarlunga is a little further away but has a good shopping centre fantastic beach and beautiful beaches nearby and also 2 min over commercial Rd you feel like your in the country. Probably a little biased as I live at Port Noarlunga Sth but the beaches and the esplanade are fantastic down here and worth the couple of minutes extra on the train. also they are extending the railway to Seaford this year and as far as I know continuing on to Aldinga in the near future. Also with 500 k you would have no trouble finding a lovely home in either area. You may also want to look at Brighton as this would be even closer. Good luck.
  5. Our daughters is going there next year when she finishes at Port Noarlunga primary. Both Vicki and looked around the school and found it to have all the facilities you would expect. I liked the fact that the younger ones have a chance to stay in their age group in a separate part to the main school creating a small middle school in effect. Hope this helps I now a friend of Laurens has been accepted and she lives up Murry Rd.
  6. I did it for a few months and found that they just looked after the ones that had been there the longest in the early stages you could be just sat waiting for hours on end. It may be different and you may get a decent firm. Plus you will have to pay your own tax ,fuel ,no sick pay, holiday pay or pension. Sorry if it sounds a bit doom and gloom just trying to be honest with you.
  7. Have you room for one more I have a kayak and a rod but I have not got a clue on how to fish so would appreciate some help. Living local at Port Noarlunga south.
  8. Hi I am going to purchase a second hand van in Noarlunga on Saturday and would like a second opinion, from someone more qualified than my self. I am happy to pay for your time please PM if anyone would be interested. Regards Trev.
  9. Cheers. I forgot all about it. You have a good day as well. Ps where abouts in yorkshire are you from.
  10. Hi we live in down South at Port Noarlunga South. My Daughter would walk your dogs if you where to settle near by. I would also be with her, It would give her a chance to earn some extra spending money. She is usually home for 3.30pm.
  11. Here is the best one I have found, and I'm from Bradford. I have found nicer if you mix both lamb and chicken breasts. Monday, 05 February 2007 [h=3]Ingredients[/h] At a glance Main Ingredient Mutton Serves 4 2 lbs boneless Lamb shoulders, cut into 2" cubes 2 cups yogurt 8 garlic flakes 1 tbsp chopped fresh ginger 1 tsp ground red pepper 1 tsp garam masala 1 tsp ground coriander seeds 1 tsp ground cumin seeds 2 tsp lemon juice 1 tbsp oil salt to taste [h=3]Methods/steps[/h] Puree all the ingredients, except the Lamb and oil. Marinate the Lamb in the puree for 4-5 hours in the refrigerator. Place the meat along with the marinade in a heavy saucepan and bring to a boil on medium high heat. Lower heat to medium, cover and simmer for half an hour, until the Lamb is tender. Continue to cook uncovered until most of the moisture has evaporated and the Lamb is thickly coated with the gravy. Add 1tbsp of oil and stir fry for 2 minutes. Hope this helps it certainly does the trick for me.

  14. i have some spare. we are down port noarlunga south.
  15. Pretty much exactly the same I have not spoke to my dad for 4 months his decision not mine. I new it would be hard but certainly get the impression they want us to fail and never seem happy to see us progress. On the other hand i thought my wifes parents would cause the most hassle and initially probably did but have now come around and are here now visiting. So far Australia and Adelaide has given us us all a great life and new opportunities, our daughters come on leaps and bounds on the social side. Schooling is a lot more relaxed but she loves being there so not overly concerned. It's not a stroll in the park you get out what you put in here but put it in and you will encounter and enjoy a great way of life. I have no regrets on our move as it was best thing for all of us. I wish things where different on the family front and in time I would hope things improve, but life's too short to for what ifs so grab it and enjoy it.
  16. I don't think the debt does die as far as I know if a company continues to try and recover the debt by sending a letter to you last home address then the debt stays alive. Most big firms now will send a letter out every 5-6 years therefore they can continue to chase the debt. I would imagine most people would return to blighty at some point even if just to visit family and friends. They maybe in for a nasty shock, as they say what goes around comes around.
  17. Hi my daughters at Port Noarlunga primary. She is 11 so maybe in the year above her names Lauren. We have just completed 11 months and have been lucky that everything has just kind of dropped into place. It does feel a lot more relaxed once you have your belongings around you. We live at Port Noarlunga Sth and love everything it has to offer. Good luck and all the best for the future.
  18. Can you not hire or buy a submersible pump and fill your water storage tanks with the pool water and then switch the pump to the storage tanks and refill the pool. Just a thought.
  19. I think I would go back for a couple of months first before moving lock stock and barrel. I know this would be expensive but a lot cheaper than moving back and then realising you had made a big mistake as plenty have. We have some friends that went back for just over a month and his words where no ones progressed or moved on, its the same people stood at the same spot in the pub moaning about the same things they moaned about 7 years ago. Other than seeing his family he would not go back as it offers very little for him his wife and kids. I hope you make the right decision for your selves and wish you all the best.
  20. Hi.

I was given your name by Jim Carroll he said you may be able to help my wife and I obtain a mortgage.

The only problem we have is that my wife was given a 2 year contract with the SA Government but it came with a 12 month probationary period.

When I went to the ANZ they said nothing could happen while she was still on probation.

I was kind of lead to believe you may be able to assist us with this matter and would be great if you could.

A few numbers if this helps.

My wife earns 48,000 I earn 33,000 we have approx 40,000 deposit and would be looking to borrow around 300,000.

We have a house in the UK that is rented out and has around $140,000 in equity left.

I would be grateful of any reply or assistance.

    Cheers.

    Trev and Vicki.

  21. I know it sounds harsh but you cant start bending the rules to suit individual cases. It's a bit much a UK newspaper should try and highlight the problems or issues of another countries migration policy .
  22. The only thing with starting off so where so nice all those places you considered to be ok just dont fit the bill any more. Cant imagine not being with in walking the distance of the beach now. We was fortunate enough to find a nice house with reasonable rent near the beach. The pizza shop at Cliff Ave just off the Esplanade does some great pizzas, look at me becoming the food critic.
  23. Hi. You have landed in a lovely spot at Moana. We live just a little further up at Port Noarlunga Sth and spend a lot of our time at Moana beach. You should try the Deep Blue Cafe the food is very good. Hope you all continue to settle in well. trev Vicki and Lauren
  24. This is one of the best questions asked. I'm glad you have brought question up as its something I we have not thought of since being here. Now we need to ask some serious questions to our 11 year old daughter.
