  1. Yes Tyke is spot on, at the start its all outgoings. It certainly makes you realise how good an idea it is to bring everything you had in the uk with you. Even the small items that you dont think you will need you will end of buying here! The biggest thing is though the earlier you get money coming in the easier it is. The best thing to do is not go to mad when you get here buying the things that can wait. I know its nice to have all nice and new things but you need to think about the savings.
  2. well done Tykes. a great milestone and hope we are still loving life like you after 9 years. Near one year in for us and everything you say rings a bell. good on ya for a good post
  3. I would bring it all. There is loads of camp shops here but you be better bringing what you got to save paying out.
  4. Good to see that Pete did not hide behind you!!
  5. I think you mean Goolwa as Gawler is well in land and not many waves there:wideeyed: You can surf from around Adelaide at Glenelg near enough right round Brighton, Seaford, South Port, Moana, Knights, then at various places around the point such as Waitpinga, Parsons Beach (plus a a few other places) then round at Victor Harbor area, Middleton, Goolwa then further down. Theres great surf over on the wast side of Yorke Peninsular (good Holiday destination). Around the Adelaide Metro areas good days will depend on weather where as down on the south coast get more consistent "fun" waves when its calmer. Depending on ability Waitpinga and Parsons have great waves but are well know for rips and sometimes dangerous conditions. Lots of choices and some great beaches and surf clubs. You will certainly notice the difference from old Blighty, especially the south east as we came from just along the coast there in Hastings As for the golf there are many of us on here who play and arrange get togethers and lots of good courses around. hope this helps you get a feel of what about

  8. Husband Store A store that sells new husbands has opened in New York City , where a woman may go to choose a husband. Among the instructions at the entrance is a description of how the store operates: You may visit this store ONLY ONCE! There are six floors and the value of the products increase as the shopper ascends the flights. The shopper may choose any item from a particular floor, or may choose to go up to the next floor, but you cannot go back down except to exit the building! So, a woman goes to the Husband Store to find a husband. On the first floor the sign on the door reads: Floor 1 - These men Have Jobs She is intrigued, but continues to the second floor, where the sign reads: Floor 2 - These men Have Jobs and Love Kids. 'That's nice,' she thinks, 'but I want more.' So she continues upward. The third floor sign reads: Floor 3 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, and are Extremely Good Looking. 'Wow,' she thinks, but feels compelled to keep going.. She goes to the fourth floor and the sign reads: Floor 4 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, are Drop-dead Good Looking and Help With Housework 'Oh, mercy me!' she exclaims, 'I can hardly stand it!' Still, she goes to the fifth floor and the sign reads: Floor 5 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, are Drop-dead Gorgeous, Help with Housework, and Have a Strong Romantic Streak.. She is so tempted to stay, but she goes to the sixth floor, where the sign reads: Floor 6 - You are visitor 31,456,012 to this floor. There are no men on this floor. This floor exists solely as proof that women are impossible to please. Thank you for shopping at the Husband Store. PLEASE NOTE: To avoid gender bias charges, the store's owner opened a New Wives store just across the street. The first floor has wives that love sex. The second floor has wives that love sex and have money and like beer. The third, fourth, fifth and sixth floors have never been visited.

yes welcome guys, hope you settle quickly and enjoy your new start
  10. not got any real suggestions but just to say when we arrived our Skype was not as good with similar problems to yours and found that our old laptop was not powerful enough, despite being ok in uk. Brought a "better quality" one here with more memory and faster processor and works fine now and no problems at all. Just a suggestion but sounds very similar
  11. well done on the first year and good on ya for the honest post. Great you have settled so well

    2 years? We made it!

Congratulations to all the family on making it this far and heres hoping you have many many more great years ahead here.
  13. Quality of life has more to do with what your willing to put into it. Although i dont live in the North West area of the CBD from actually visiting the areas personally i would say the area has either vastly improved since them figures were issued or they are extremely old data! Personally i would take more notice of someone that actually lives in that area!!!
  14. A belated Happy Birthday Rachel:wubclub:. Hope you had a great day
  15. All sounds fine, When i did mine just concentrated on removing any dirt and wood dust, rust marks/stains not a problem. Our shippers said the one favourite they like to try is turning the golf bag upside down and if grass/mud falls out then customs hit you with a cleaning bill!
  16. I personally think Gawler is a good place to live. It depends on what your after, about 50 mins from the city and about the same to the nearest sandy beaches. Gawler has a small country town feel about it. Its an area that is growing and more facilities are being added all the time. Has all the large shopping places for your weekly shop, coles, foodland, woolworths and BigW and a high Street with many other shops and places to eat. Some good senior schools in Trinity and Xavier College. Sorry do not know of Primary schools in Gawler but "generally" most primarary schools are similar although obviously there are some that may not be as good and what one person considers good may not mean everyone does. Gawler is close to the country and the Barossa and some great sceneray around. As an area i would recommend it but... what should be a deciding factor where to live should be based on what and where the line of work you are looking for and what sort of lifestyle you want more than peoples opinions of areas. You will need to see the areas when you arrive and make your own minds up.
  17. You best pm Tim direct about any form of advertising. Have to be careful as without some form of control it becomes a free for all, then the spam becomes more of a problem. At present there a lot of posters with "simple advertising" to forum guidlines and even now it gets abused. At the end of the day final say so comes from Tim not us mere mods so suggest try speaking to him.
  18. And due to him saying it had a puncture its hardly been used;)
  19. Weather at moment is mid 20's to odd day in 30's over the next week, nights down to 13-16 deg. Sorry dont know about Cathay or Hong Kong but would assume you would be able to either cash machine or alternative currency (Singapore did) As for car hire we used Thrifty based at airport and booked on line. No complaints from us Have a great time
  20. Like the saying goes "If at first you dont succeed at least you've tried!" Everyone has the same doubts because at the end of the day getting the visa is the easy bit believe you me! For every story of someone struggling there is another of a person happy so i would say 90% its down to the attitude you come here with and also that little bit of luck. Come with a positive attitude and a willingness to accept that everything will not always go great and stick with it. With the right positive attitude the bad days are few and far between.

    Visa help

GrandJac used Four Corners from memory and rated them highly as far as i know. Maybe drop them a line about their experiences with them
  22. Just look on the "Master Builders Assoc" web site. White card training is a 6 hour sitting in a classroom listening, nothing hard, mainly common sense stuff. Firm arranged mine but you can apply direct.

    where to live

    Could not agree more!!
  24. shame to see the usual good natured post is upset by the bitter minority! As for the original post despite mixed opinions about people involved cancer at the end of the day is a tragic thing and if anyone has ever sat and watched a loved one die from it they will no how horrible it is to not only the person but those left behind. And if it raises awareness and saves just one life then something good can come of it! I just hope for their sakes the ones making sick comments never have to sit and watch a loved one die from anything like it! It aint nice!
