  1. Hi W Russell. I have also heard that they will increase the 1 year as permanent resident to 4 years. Now does that affect people like me that have been on a Provisional 489 for two years and 1 year as a perm resident? Was looking to apply for citizenship next year but all this news has left me asking more questions. Any advice would be appreciated
  2. That wouldn't be for Robin Johnson Enginerring at the lead smelter would it?
  3. Don't want to come across as rude people. But if English is a secondary language and your applying for 887 Visa. You have to make sure the secondary applicant or Child over the age of 18 has provided a functional English Evaluation. Send this with your main application file... The amount of posts I've read with CO's being allocated is primarily due to this reason. Just a heads up. Good luck.
  4. Exactly What I done. Moved East and Never looked back. For some reason this post came up in my email feed. I've posted many posts on how I feel about the place I'm not going to waste time doing that again... People say the grass is not always greener. Oh how wrong was they. To each and there own. I respect people's perceptions are different. Good luck.
  5. You seem to get off on people's misfortunes. You will fit right in Adelaide. Oh BTW it didn't shook me to the core it made me appreciate where I am now. Enjoy and I hope Adelaide is good for you and doesn't break you because karmas a bitch ay?
  6. I am one of those people who has shared my experience's of Adelaide. Most of which has been Negative. I'm honest with my opinions when prospective migrants comment and will not differ from that. If that's rattling your cage then so be it. If I feel a migrant in a particular similarity to my situation comments then I will do my upmost to uphold my honest opinion of Adelaide. The Place wasn't for me and my family but if for any reason a person asks the same questions I was then damn sure I will tell them of my personal experiences whether it breaks the status quo or not!!!
  7. I'm certain that they will come in handy. There's a large Greek/Italian contingent around the eastern and western suburbs. Also the Submarine contract is to be started under a French Company. You would certainly been an asset to converse in both English and French fluently.
  8. You would only be able to receive reciprocal Medicare. Not the full Medicare because you will not be permanent resident ... And Largs bay.. Still run down.. Have to use a baby car seat to Australian Standards. Leafy suburbs around Tea Tree Gully.
  9. Awful Feeling. I know I've been there. The only thing I could say is forget the phone calls and turn up in person if he hasn't already. Adelaide for new migrants is going to be insular it takes forever to feel that you're established. Maybe arrange meet ups on FB. Although I did the same and met a few people I wished I never. Don't lose hope though. Silver linings always show up in unexpected scenarios
  10. I don't want to be bearer of bad news mate... But being an electrician in Adelaide at the moment isn't the greatest... I think before you start looking for work consider looking at your licence requirements like enrolling at Peer. Preparation for Logbook that take you 6 months minimum. I don't want to sound cynical but I've left the state because of it and I'm an electrician who's been through Hell and back in Adelaide.
  11. Check the rental prices out in Sydney and then you will understand why! Plus your salary seems on par with what you were earning in UK. Commute from Brighton is 20 mins on train. Would you even call it a commute? For $2.5k a month I'd expect a bloody 4 bed with pool in Henley.
  12. Yeah I re read your original message. My bad. Misinterpreted
  13. Let's agree to Diasgree. By the way I don't know where your getting your info from but Im not on a temp visa
  14. Prospective migrants wouldn't be able to work self employed or would find it difficult to work on ABN due to the fact that the new migrant would be without an electrical licence.
  15. Ok so that article mentions NRAH three times. NRAH is built. I worked there for 18 months. The other 3 buildings are over 50% complete all located along north terrace. So who's going to employ the 400 electricians that have left the hospital since Feburary? It can't be a coincidence that I'm receiving constant txt messages and calls regarding work. The advertiser releases prospective Jobs all the time. Most get caught up in the red tape of the Adelaide council... can you please be honest when your dealing with people from the construction industry
  16. Construction? Oh Please tell me you're serious... How Patronising! Next thing you will say that it's a conspiracy theory.. You have no personal knowledge of the construction field there so please refrain from posting crap like that. You'll be giving potential migrants misinformation.
  17. I quite understand that others do fine here. I was merely giving my Opinion. Australia as a whole is quieting down... But Adelaide compared to the rest of Aus is in Strife... You can't exactly say that I'm talking BS because I've experienced that...
  18. If I had my Two and a Bit years back I certainly wouldn't have come to Adelaide. I've recently moved States and kicked myself for not doing so earlier. Your best bet would be to look elsewhere plenty of other places similar but with better employment opportunities
  19. Any Electricians in this batch coming over? Make sure you got a nice little amount to sit on... Now the Hospital is pretty much wrapped up established electricians whom are born and bred Aussie have been out of work since December. Think about the move to Adelaide wisely. I receive txt messages daily asking if I know who's taking on.
  20. Maybe it's because your living in South Australia. Met so many people who have left the state and have never looked back.
  21. Yep I'm outta here in a months time. Can't wait. I'm currently working in Darwin and there's more going on there!!!
  22. Hey Dave. I promised myself that I wouldn't come back onto this morbid site. As a fellow sparkie who's been through the hurdles I could probably give you a more accurate representation to the processes. If YOU are the visa holder you will go through the Vetesses route which entails a practical and theory test in the UK. Similar to AM2. That if passed will gain you an OSTR. This then enables you to apply for Restricted Electrical Licence upon arrival. Here comes the difficult part. You will then visit skills for all who will probably offer you the chance to complete your wiring rules at PEER Tech for free. At Peer you will complete 3 weeks of Australian regulation study. Very similar to Ours. After successful completion of the Wiring rules you will then need to complete the next stage.... GAP TRAINING. A logbook which needs to be completed every day compromising Domestic. Commercial and industrial jobs... With some applicants taking a Year to complete. Mine took 6 Months at 70,000 words. If this isn't enough and I'm not being pessimistic just realistic it's hard enough for licenced sparkles to get a gig here in Adelaide. You would be classed as a TA... Unlike the electrical mate system in UK which is a preferred method of 3 mates to a spark. Here in Aus is completely different for some strange reason they rearly take on TA's but not impossible. I myself are moving states. I personally know a lot of Aussie and British sparks are also joining in the exodus... It's an uphill task mate but do able... Make sure you have enough money to keep you going for about 4 months.. I went down to my last 800$ before I got a gig... It's frightening.. Good luck.
  23. Heres a medal because you've been here longer then I. Looking at your old post you still write the same rhetoric. Your a hero well done
  24. Well starting your post with. Is it that bad? Pissed me off! It's like where on here preaching bull ****! I've struggled my ass off in the construction game. I hate when people try telling you different. BTW RAH is finished or 99% complete I was there for nearly year and half!!! The Seaford housing construction is around 30 house's at a time hardly extravagant
