REMOVALS..................a sorry tale

Hi I recently moved to Adelaide (PM for company used). It was a good job I insured my belongings separately.

They broke 10 items in all causing about $1600 in damages. After repeated e mails they eventually answered and refused to accept any responsibility without even hearing the facts. They never responded to any e mails after that.

I would never ever use them again nor recommend them to anyone. The most disappointing thing was that they wouldn't even discuss what had happened in order to try to prevent it from happening again to someone else.We were just another family moving and they didn't care. You have to make your own minds up, but whatever you do make sure you get insured with a separate company.:arghh:

ETA by forum mod - Please PM if you wish to know the name of company.

We had a similar problem when our stuff arrived.

The company we used (and would not recommend) said...

Did you inspect the items when they were delivered?

When we said no due to the lads wanting to off load the boxes quickly to get to the next job.

There reply was you signed for the goods. This means all was well when delivered.

They wanted us to of checked every item as it came out of the container!!!

After lots of arguments they agreed to pay for some things.

Just on a side note quite a few of our boxes were half empty or just had lots of paper in them.

We recon we could of saved at least a third of the cubic meterage if we had watched them pack it.

Pommyspark hope you get things sorted just keep going you never know there is an independent ombudsman you can report this sort of thing to.

We had a shocking experience with our removals company.

We attended the removals seminars and chose what we thought was a reputable mover.

Lots of items were either missing or damged. The replacement process for these items was so torturous. The damged items (dents in hi fi systems, appliances etc) was a joke...an offer of les than 10% of insured value.

Bottom line...the insurance of the goods cost more than the final payout...not a good experience and certainly not one that you need when you are setting up new lives and have so many other things happening in your life.

I think it would be good if members who have already made the move and had a positive experience listed the company they used. If someone has added the name already, just like their post. We're trying to organise appointments right now so it'd be very helpful :)

We had a really bad experience too and I reported ................... and their insurance company (which I found was same company different name ) to the UK insurance ombudsman. A week after I sent the letter ............... suddenly made me an acceptable offer after 5 months of offering me £150 on a £3000 claim.

if anyone needs the ombudsmans details PM me or google Insurance Ombudsman UK.

Good Luck!

Crumbs, what an unsettling thread.....hoping the company we are using (Pickfords) are okay. We've plumped for separate insurance marine insurance from a third party who have been really great to work with so far (A Letton and Percival).

Guess we'll just have to see what happens during the packing and unpacking...........

Hi, without wanting to contravene any of the forum rules and regulations please be advised I work for an insurance company who specialises in international removals insurance.

The whole essence of taking out insurance is to ensure you are adequately protected in the event of loss or damage and to respond positively in the event of a claim. Whilst we cannot respond without specific detail it would be interesting to know the reasons why the removal company were so hesitant in offering assistance. Perhaps you could PM us.

Thanks

IYM i think we need to know who you work for - MODS don't you think the poor performers should be named and shamed -1 to give them the opportunity to pull their socks up and 2 to give potential victims adequate warning about the truely awful big names out there who make out how great they are.

I work for Insure-your-Move.com and was hoping to offer an impartial opinion without blame or bias so others who maybe beset similar problems in the future are aware of how best to proceed. We do not want to be seen contravening the posting rules which we fully support hence the reason we would only respond in a generic manner.

If you were a site owner, risking getting sued by a company because one of your members "named and shamed" on your forum, I think you'd agree it's not such a good idea. Nothing to stop anyone PM-ing the OP to get the name though....

IYM,

You have a private message from me.

Why would the owner of a site get sued when its other peoples views that are being presented?

I have seen this sort of thing being said on other forums with a greater viewing, and worse thing being said and nobody has ever been sued or spoken to in any way.

Legal action is often threatened to forums when things are said by members like name and shame posts. Hence this site and our sister sites having a policy of no name and shame on the public forum. You can never be too careful. Basically though, no review or no comment often speaks louder than writing a scathing review. Or people can simply say 'PM for company name' if they wish. If people post asking if such and such a company is any good and you want to say 'No', because of your experience with them drop that person a PM and explain why :)

IYM have admin permission to post and have been very helpful in the past over on our sister site Poms In Oz. I appreciated their reply here and hope people will not jump on them for posting.

Now, lets get away from the name and shame debate please and back to the topic. Forum policy isn't going to change

click on the persons name and then it should come up with 'private message' as one of the options, click on that and write your message.
