  1. Sad about Masters but great about Costco. I can't find a link to that news anywhere but it makes sense as I knew they wanted a store down here at some point. NWM
  2. Re Transferring money - I use Ozforex as their rates consistently beat Moneycorps (and it's also free) but I am tempted to try a peer to peer company too which matches people who are sending money in the opposite direction. This one is supported by Richard Branson https://transferwise.com/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=EN_AUS_Search_Brand&matchtype=e&network=g&device=c&devicemodel=&creative=77082794457&keyword=transferwise&placement=&adposition=1t1 I would be keen to hear from anyone who has used this kind of service. NWM
  3. If it's not too personal - I would be interested to know the main reasons for your decision. Broadly speaking was it down to money, family, better opportunities, difficulty settling, family, home sickness or something else?? NWM
  4. I'm going back in June to Nusa Dua - It really is idyllic for us. I only went last year looking for a beach holiday where I could trust the weather. I wasn't looking for a cultural experience - just somewhere to unwind with a book in one hand and a cocktail in the other. It was far cheaper than staying in Aus, especially for the add-ons (food, drink, spa, massage etc). In Nusa dua there are loads of really good hotels with cuisine and beaches to match. We felt very secure and apart from one trip to Kuta we didn't feel the need to leave the area. May not be to everyone's taste, I get that, but for a place just to unwind I couldn't fault it (hence booked again) NWM
  5. I was surprised the stadium wasn't full yesterday and I think part of the reason has been the general lack of games being shown on free-to-air TV - there just hasn't been the 'buzz' that I was expecting. The game may have been good on the telly but the atmosphere at the stadium for most of the match was pretty flat for a quarter final, knock-out match. I love big games (which is why I went) but I did come away slightly disappointed with the 'experience' (not the result) NWM
  6. They had some that had been reserved for officials and clubs etc - some of these that weren't taken up were then released to the public, I don't expect that to be the same for a friendly match but I guess it could happen NWM
  7. They sold out immediately - to guarantee mine I joined Adelaide United as an Associate member for $25 the week before so I was eligible for the pre-sale. But they are now like gold-dust - my guess is some will be re-sold nearer the time on gumtree (or here). The corporate hospitality tickets are still around but that will set you back over $500. Good luck though!! NWM
  8. I'll be surprised if you need a RWC in Adelaide see:https://www.sa.gov.au/topics/transport-travel-and-motoring/motoring/vehicles-and-registration/vehicle-inspections/roadworthy-inspections NWM
  9. The other thing to say is that as the 189 visa is a permanent visa then to avoid having to get a RRV, just apply for citizenship and get a passport instead (which you can do after four years of residency). The passport is cheaper than the RRV and means that forever you can come and go as you please. I understand there are reasons why some cannot do this, due to validating the visa but not moving out straight away or being out of the country for more than a year during the four years preceding a citizenship application, but in most cases this would appear to be the better option. NWM
  10. The poster has a certain 'style' that many may not like but the long standing members you talk of have given as good as they have got. The thread you mention has been moderated by admin, infractions issued and now closed - I am not going to edit it any further. For future reference, if you have a problem with a poster then please put them on ignore, if you have a problem with a post then report the post and finally if you have a problem with the way the site is moderated then please contact admin rather than posting on the forum. NWM
  11. OK - I've removed personal digs and comments. Please stick to debating the topic and not the poster. NWM
  12. This is a standard rule on many forums and has been on this one as long as I remember 10.Postings that are deliberately designed with the intention of driving traffic to a member's site, affiliated sites or other social networking sites/forums will be removed or edited as the moderator(s) feels appropriate. If in doubt before posting these type of links please contact the administrator . NWM
  13. Great advice - I didn't know that school existed, it looks like a wonderful experience. NWM
  14. Yeah - I did the same as most of my money still comes from the UK, I tried them all when I started, playing them all off of each other - Ozforex beat everyone by a mile at the time (same no fees etc) however that was a few years ago now, i'd be interested to compare again. NWM
  15. Seems a bit slow - if I transfer money in the morning I have it in my Aussie account the following day. NWM
  16. I use Ozforex personally - find they beat their competitors, but it's worth shopping around if it's a significant amount. NWM
  17. It's all pretty straight forward from there - they will let you know when to go in for your test - you'll be in and out of that in half an hour tops. The test itself took me 3 mins and my wife, my son and myself all got 100% with only an hour or so of revision. Then it's just a wait for the actual citizenship ceremony, we did ours just before Christmas and got a nice certificate and pot-plant to prove it!! NWM
  18. I'm a gold skywards (emirates) frequent flyer member and just love them. The flights from Adelaide to the UK are now the shortest which is great for taking kids. It's constantly between Emirates and Singapore for the best carrier to/from Aus so either is great. NWM
  19. I don't agree with many of the comments written. You were driving on your UK licence not your Aussie one therefore they can do nothing except try to get you to pay a fine. They can't cancel your new license, give you points or cancel your registration. Just wait until you get your notice in the UK and then decide what you want to do. The same thing happened to me on a visit before we emigrated too - the computer systems between the countries do not talk to each other apparently and it is highly unlikely that there will be any link between your UK and Aussie licenses and even if they were, then just say you moved over here and have not received a notice in the UK. NWM
  20. You can sometimes be cheaper using the regional airlines for one way fairs i.e. getting to Singapore or Malaysia then jet star, air asia, virgin the rest of the way - it's a bit of a hassle changing airlines and you will have to pay for your bags etc but if money is the bottom line then it could be an option? NWM
  21. Hi The return resident visa is easy to apply for - takes just a few minutes on the immi website (it's a few hundred dollars though) The visa stamp is fine - they don't issue them anymore anyway, just take your old passport with you when you fly, they will update their info when you land in Aus and that's you. Can't help with the Electricians card i'm afraid. NWM
  22. You have to have made a number of posts on the forum before the PM privilege activates NWM
  23. It's the interest on the mortgage payments - not the capital, but yes in principal it's just 'the profit' you pay tax on, irrespective of whether you actually send it to Australia and presuming you are resident in Australia for tax purposes. NWM
