Ooh Diane I didn't do any 'best spot for wine and platters' - I must add:

Grange Hotel on the seafront at Grange - platter is ridiculously good value

Also for winery food:

In McLaren Vale:

d'Arenberg for fine dining

Settlement for pizza/nibbles with a gorgeous view

Ekhidna/Paper Eagle for great value tapas/share plates

In Clare Valley:

Mr Mick's - brilliant food and such good value

Yes, real shame. Adelaide is short on fine dining and could have done without losing one of its best.

For sure. I'm quite surprised at some of the places people in Adelaide consider fine dining. The manse was amazing food. Amazingly expensive too though, but worth it for a treat. I'm a big fan of degustation menus, but mostly for birthdays etc. I can't remember the name of the last one I went to, but it wasn't anything special. Next time I'm planning on trying Celsius.

Our best meal was at the windy Point restaurant for my birthday this year. Very, very special - excellent food, service, wine and the views are stunning. It is expensive but worth it. Very highly recommended :)

Went to the Kensington Hotel last night, very nice meal and delicious homemade ice creams and sorbets for dessert! Great value too at just $2 a scoop!

Nice to eat in a restaurant too that doesn't have tiled floors - I find those places that do have tiles end up getting so noisy once you get a few tables full. The noise seems to bounce back and forth between the walls and the ceiling and the tiles, amplifying as it goes! Carpet definitely the way to go!!

This thread has gone off topic. The places mentioned recently shouldn't be classified as good restaurants, people will think Adelaide only has snack bars!

I do disagree about Adelaide not having much fine dining, there are good restaurants all over the place, Unley RD is just one example. The Grange at the Hilton gets good reviews too.

We have recently eaten indian at Delhi Spice on Oaklands rd, it is more of a cafe although you can sit in we have had takeaway, the food is pretty damn good and really cheap!

Hi All

Could anyone recommend a nice steak restaurant in Adelaide CBD ?

Thanks Jo

Try the Strathmore ( everyone calls it the Strath) - on North Terrace opposite the Casino.

They serve the Stonegrill steaks where you get a very hot stone, a piece of steak and cook it yourself.

Bit more about it in the link below.

I've not been there myself but the Stag on the end of Rundle Street is supposed to be excellent for steaks - I've heard that after the Adelaide Royal Show they always buy whichever bull has won Best in Show and errmmm... serve it up!

Hi Jo, I suggest Cos on Leigh Street in the city. Best steak ever and a lovely atmosphere. It's very classy without being cold or pretentious. Their non-steak dishes are fabulous too for any non steak lovers you might be dining with. It's also close to some great bars to start/end the night such as Clever Little Tailor on Peel St (street parallel to Leigh St), or also Proof or Udaberri.

The Stag is worth a meal just to pay homage to the sign proudly stating that it's "the worst vegetarian restaurant in Adelaide"!
