  2. Hi All Was hoping for some advice. We will have completed 2 years living in Adelaide on January 19th 2017. However we had a 1 week overseas holiday in December 2015 & we went home for a 3 week 2 day holiday in August 2016. Can we apply for our 887 on the 19th January 2 years after our arrival, or do we have to take into account our holidays (roughly about 4 weeks overseas?) Thanks in advance :-)

  9. Ok so we have been in Adelaide just over 2 weeks so thought it was about time I give an update as I know how much I enjoyed reading arrival stories. So we flew from Dublin to Brisbane on the 3rd Jan via Dubai with emirates, the flight was fine a bit of delay due to weather but nothing too major, great service. Arriving at the airport we made sure to go through the que to get our passport stamped, glad we did as we’ve needed this a couple of times. Didn’t need any paperwork or anything just showed our passports, very quick and easy We stayed with my uncle for 2 weeks in Brisbane, so we were able to pick up bank cards ( arranged prior to arrival with NAB), get sim cards and apply for our tax numbers up there, all very straight forward. Spent the rest of the 2 weeks catching up with family, applied for a few jobs but didn’t concentrate on it too much. I got a phone call to offer me a temporary position in Adelaide starting on the morning of the 19th however we didn’t land until the evening so unfortunately they couldn’t wait as they required someone urgently but this meant we were able to spend the first week house hunting. We had a hire car for a week, but we bought a car on the Thursday as my partner needs a car for work. My partner sat his white card on the Friday had booked this prior to arrival so was ready to start work; however the shipping company on this side have been awful. We had pre-arranged to collect his tools before the rest of the shipping but they were a nightmare to get hold off and just ignored calls & emails so we didn’t get his tools until Wednesday past. He started work on the Thursday however, so been great to get one of us started as we can live comfortably on his wage until I secure something. We applied for a couple of houses, offered six months’ rent and 8 days after arrival got offered a house 15mins from the city that we both liked and allowed dogs. We move in tomorrow so we are really excited to get our own home and things will start to feel a bit less like a holiday. Unfortunately are shipping isn’t arriving until next week so might be a few nights on a blow up bed. Thankfully the lovely Claire & Tel have gave us the pay it forward kit for a week or so, so this will help us sooo much, it’s great. Also, we are LOVING Adelaide, it wasn’t our first choice as we have family in Brisbane but needed the state sponsorship but we’ve both surprised ourselves that we much prefer it down here, so far anyway it’s still early days. Just hoping I get a job soon but not worrying too much yet its only been 2 weeks. Paula & Charlie
  10. Aww she is just grogeous Congratulations x
  11. Wow, great photos they really are stunning
  12. Hi Joe & Carrie Do you mean regarding getting the visa? If so you could go on your trade. My partner is a plasterer & I went as his defacto partner, as long as you can prove you are in a real & ongoing relationship and have lived together (a year I think) so joint bills, lease agreement, photos, invites etc she could be put on your visa. The first thing we had to do was get Charlies skills assessed this was done through TRA, alot of paperwork but over all not to bad, I can send you a list of things we sent if you like. If you havent enough points you will also need to do the IELTS test, then you can submit your EOI. Sorry if you mean suggestions regarding getting jobs, in which case im no help lol!
  13. awww I know I feel excited for you, finally the end of feeling the need to check emails every 10 minutes lol!!!!!!!!! You still hoping for March, that will fly in. We found out at start of August and go in Jan so about the same time frame, its flying in :-)
  14. Hi We have just had the removal guys leave about 3 weeks ago, from Ballymena to Adelaide :-) We used Mc Gimpseys and they were fabulous so far and were able to match or beat any quote. They did all the packing and were quick to answer any queries we have. Our things are due to arrive in January so I cant comment on the Australia side of things but so far so good. We also got quotes for pickfords and 1 other company but cant quite remember the name. If you want the names or emails ill send them on to you, but google should bring them up :-) Thanks Paula
  15. Oh wow, that is fantastic im sure your over the moon :-) It didnt take too long after the medicals, such a fab feeling!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck with the next steps of planning and congrats
  16. Thanks Royd, will have a look at this site
  17. Hi All We are arriving in Adelaide on the 19th Jan but will be staying in Brisbane 2 weeks prior to that, so trying to write out a list of things we can do before we get to Adelaide such as collecting bank cards, tax file numbers. Does anyone know can we sort out medicare cards in a different state or do we need to wait untill we get to Adelaide? Thanks in advance
  18. Brilliant news, wohoo its so exciting it. Congratulations
  19. No kids yet so dont have that worry yet. Ooo I had looked at Port noarlunga too, it loooks lovely will definitely be going to have a look at it, though Charlie has spoken with a man on here who might be able to get him a bit off work in the eastern suburbs, so think it might just be a little too far, but we need to give the guy a call when we are going out just to make sure he still has a lot of work on fingers crossed. Yeh your right you need to get a feel of the places, i find it hard to tell from a map just how far places are away from each other. You wont be long coming out after us then :-) Good luck look forward to seeing your VISA GRANT post
  20. Oh I'd say you'll hear before Christmas, when do u plan to go? We're not going until the start of jan going to have one last Xmas at home! We've a short term rental just outside Adelaide but haven't quite decided on where to move to, So much choice lol!!
  21. Oh really thats brilliant your almost at the end, we had a long wait from our medicals from Feb till 1st of August but only because they had reached their limits for the year. They seem to be back to processing quickly so youll hopefully hear in the next few weeks. Youll be glad thats the biggest hurdle over, good luck
  22. The removal guys have just left and we’ve waved goodbye to our things it went a lot more smoothly than I thought and mc gimpseys NI were brilliant I would highly recommend them (so far anyway lol). It’s all starting to feel a bit more real now, now to concentrate on getting our dog over
  23. Wow, loving the photos it looks gorgeous, making me excited for our move in January :-)
  24. House viewing to rent! I guess I have under estimated the processes with renting, Kind of thought it would be a quick process. Would renting directly of a landlord, say like of the likes of gumtree be quicker or would they have the same processes, like viewing days? Thanks for the advice, think I’ll definitely get our short term rental extended a bit longer then, don’t really fancy the thought of the added stress and pressure if we can’t find somewhere so soon. Our dog is joining us in March so that will probably rule alot of properties as well!
  25. Hi Snifter They have advised us of about 14 weeks, we are using a shared container. I did think it was a bit early myself, but I suppose they don't ship the stuff straight away from the house? We have however requested storage untill we get a long term rental although we will collect my partners tools earlier so he can start work. Its quite a small shipment no furniture. Hopefully storage isnt too costly but maybe I should just check the costs of this now thanks!! 2 weeks then you thinks too short a time, we are arriving into brisbane for 2 weeks before we get to adelaide so I was hoping we could get most things like banks/ tax numbers etc sorted there and arrange house viewings straight away on arrival. There are only the 2 of us so we could check into a hostel if we cant extend our rental if we needed. Or would we be better extended the rental for 4 weeks now, maybe im being a bit too optimistic lol!
