    Fabric shopping

Tricia's Fabric warehouse just off South Road near Castle Plaza
  2. Ooooh, the golden oldies are back - just like old times on here! Looking forward to the update
  3. Hate the frequent adverts and generally poor programmes on TV but at least you can fast forward through breaks on Foxtel. We watch a lot of sport and UK drama so it suits us fine. Used to love MKR, especially the early rounds hosted in the contestants homes but its getting more and more like a reality show later in the series. Still quite watchable IMO but, as a trained cook and ex cookery demonstrator, I love anything to do with food! Looked at the free to air via a reputable forum / site but was a bit too technical for me .... don't understand all that 'seeding' stuff.

    Loud parties

We've experienced it a couple of times on hot nights when they've been outside but generally all quiet after 11.00pm. Twice we received handwritten letters from teenagers down the road to say they're having 18th birthday parties and apologizing in advance for any noise. Music was fine but rather a lot of noisy cars when parents came to collect them!!! 2 or 3 times a year is acceptable in my book.
  5. See you there - we're members of SACA so got tickets in the members stand I make some posh salads, dips and crackers and cakes and fill a small insulated bag
  6. Contributory parents visa (143) does cost around $30,000 and you will also have to put up a bond of $10,000 which is returnable after 10 years provided no claims are made (on centrelink). They would also qualify for Medicare and a Senior's Card (not much else) and have permanent residency. They would have to have 1/2 or more of their children living in Australia to qualify in the first place. The Visa used to take up to 2 years to obtain (we were lucky and got ours in 13 months nearly 4 years ago) Not sure of the timescale now.
  7. Glad it all worked out OK for you. Love our gas ducted heating but we have evaporative cooling. Bit cooler up in the hills so humidity is not usually an issue and I don't like icy cold aircon so it suits us fine (virtually free to run with our solar panels too!) I like the fact that you can leave doors and windows open but finding the right combination takes a while to fathom out.
  8. Although I personally prefer the south and the southern beaches, if I was working north of the CBD that would not be my first choice as southern suburbs along the coast can be a heck of a commute
  9. Its a great airport and you can catch the transit to others terminals where there are some lovely gardens and lots more to see and do.

    Turkey for Xmas

Can't beat it - and think of all those lovely left-overs. I love mine with bubble and squeak and a bit of Branston Pickle and curried of course.
  11. We prefer Singapore and, if possible, a longer stopover - its a great City to explore. If not do as Snifter suggested and use the pool - we always did that on our annual trips here with a city break on the way back to the UK. Came here on the one-way trip with Cathay as there was nothing availble for our travel dates and were so disappointed - indifferent service and hated the stop-over at Hong Kong (middle of the night, huge and empty terminal, no chance to leave for a city tour and nothing open - perhaps we were just unlucky)

    Visas arrived!

Great Christmas present! Good luck with the move
  13. Several in Mount Gambier and some amazing water filled ones you can dive in - nearby Piccaninnie ponds is a world famous one http://www.environment.sa.gov.au/parks/Find_a_Park/Browse_by_region/Limestone_Coast/Piccaninnie_Ponds_Conservation_Park http://www.abc.net.au/local/photos/2014/01/30/3934871.htm
  14. You can sample wines at a Cellar Door - usually open 6/7 days a week 10 - 4 (later at weekends) smaller ones have limited hours and tend to open at weekends only in winter - many serve food too from a simple platter to a gourmet meal. Wineries can have Cellar Doors but also sell at events, festivals and markets or on-line
  15. Pretty accurate guide - have tried 25 wineries there so far (including all those listed) and working our way round all the cellar doors in the area. We have visited Barossa, Clare, Eden Hills, Adelaide Hills, Langhorn Creek, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra and Riverlands too but love having McLaren Vale right on the doorstep. Can't beat their Shiraz I'm no expect but have tasted some great wines along the way - wish I could remember which ones! 23. Port Gawler - The 4.5 km long beach is backed by tidal flats, which have been developed as salt evaporation ponds. The beach consists of a high tide sands ridge, fronted by 3 km of tidal flats, with extensive mangrove on the flats south of the beach. The southern mangrove area is part of the Port Gawler Conservation Park. A 4WD track runs along the back of the beach and there is no development other than a camping area. This section of coast is only used by the fishers who use a variety of boats and elevated vehicles to fish the creeks, tidal flats and gulf. The entire shore in unsuitable for swimming except at high tide, and there is no surf. http://beachsafe.org.au/#q=semaphore&latitude=-34.8393325&longitude=138.4838338&page=&t%5BPatrol%5D=1&advanced_search_patrol_date= Afraid you'll need to travel to the city beaches if you want sand and swimming - Semaphore is probably the nearest most accessible one
  24. Everyone needs a 'Fred' - He's cute!
  25. Perhaps some of the 'southern youngsters' would like to start it up again Lots of newbies found it very helpful and some lasting friendships were made too.
