I really miss family and friends and the familiarity of life ........but on the other hand love it here and don't want to go back to the UK....so it makes no sense really. Think its just part of the course.........our neighbours who are poms have been here 26 years say the best cure is to go back to UK for a holiday ...........so we may just do that..... but for tonight we shall enjoy the wine and keep warm...

  9. Could anyone shed any light on the High Schools for the Seaford area? I know of Seaford High and Christies Beach!!! but has anyone got teenagers already there and what stories/recommendations/warnings do you have? We are just in the very early stages of thinking of a move down South ............but our dilemma is that the school our three are attending is GREAT........but the need for us to be around family hangs over us aswell!!!! If we could only pick the school up and take it along..........that would be perfect !!! Also any info on Aberfoyle Park High...........any info on high schools in any area on the other side of the City from where we are would be of interest!!!! Thanks for your time...........
  10. We have three teenagers and have been here for 12 months............ we are in a situation where we like where we are living and our kids are SO settled in a fab school (Banksia High) but we have family and they are all down in the South......Woodcroft, Seaford, McClaren Vale area......we have been looking at houses and there are lots to choose from down South....(newer builds).....and we like it there...but just need to find a way of moving the school down there with us!!! So our big dilemma....do we stay up here until they finish school and then move or just go for it??? the mulling over it makes us dizzy.......aaargh! Been searching on here for some positives about the High School Options for those living in the Seaford area.........but not found any yet! Has anyone got any stories/recommendations/warnings!! 15. Hello,I am a carpet and floor layer, been in Adelaide since June last year. I am on an employer nominated sponsorship so unlucky for me I have to work for wages intil June next year in order to honour my visa commitments. I do however know the average rates are $18- $20 dollars per linear metre ( 5-5.50 per square metre $24 lin metre for vinyl 5 per linear metre for uplifts 20 per square metre laminate flooring most contract jobs are priced at dayrate around 4- 500 dolars a day per person. Everyone pays you into your bank account, usualy within a week of invoice, unfortunately there is very little cash work available, and certainly not like there is in the uk. If you are going to be sub contracting, you will need first of all a tax file number , and also an Australian business number (abn) you need to make sure you apply for these as soon as you arrive,as they can take a couple of weeks to come through, and you cant start work without them. Just bear in mind though that even though you will not do many hsl's ( I have done 2 in a year) ,,,all the carpet here is still only 3.66 metres wide and there is no 2 and 3 metre vinyl,,,alll 4 metre! They dont have twin naplocks, single naplocks cover strips z sections or spray adhesiv. Lots of seams to do and it does take a lot of getting used to. your average job is usualy either a full house ( lounge ,hall 3 beds) or say a loung and hall, or all the beds, you very rarely get just one room to do,,, also you get a lot of full houses in vinyl. Most floors are concrete but they are nearly always in pristine condition, you dont get the bits and pieces floors like you do in the Uk , you know the ones bit of wood bit of concrete bit of asphalt. As far as i know there is plenty of work about,i have approached 3 firms in anticipation of next June and they have all offered me work. Anyway hope this is of some help to you,if you need to know anything else just shout up. cheers martin
  16. We are living in the North East ............Banksia Park! We have three teenagers at Banksia Park International High......they have settled really well and been welcomed by students and staff. School fees are $445 per year.....but have gone up for one of our kids when she moved into year 10 but only by about $50. We have to pay for any printing they do at school....and also for their internet usage but doesnt cost much. It does take some getting used to having to pay for school.....especially when there are three lots! The Junior school is just down the road from the High School.......so must be an easy transition for the pupils...............:daydreaming:
  17. We were advised by removal company to wipe over shoes with Jeyes fluid.......and after cleaning bikes etc do the same to them! If they get a whiff of that stuff they are happy you have thoroughly cleaned stuff - worked for us, we had no issues!
